Step Up to the Plate, US Government: Save Our PlanetThe issue of human-caused global warming has been largely ignored by the national government because of the influence of powerful energy-guzzling corporations. Some politicians still deny its very existence. The truth is that global warming and the accompanying damage, already evident in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, threatens our very way of life. Opponents maintain, however, that the US would suffer an economic meltdown and incredible loss of jobs should an attempt be made to shut down the gas and coal industries. The solution to global warming while maintaining a healthy economy is simple, if controversial: the US government must nationalize coal and oil corporations and gradually redistribute jobs and investments to renewable energy industries like solar and wind.114 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Sam Balzac

Better Protection for Pedestrians on the RailroadsAfter reading an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the other day, and the comments on the online article (http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/hundreds-die-walking-the-tracks-each-year/article_b9c8bbcc-f424-559a-a0c4-bee46f8d4fe7.html) I feel that this is a very important topic that needs to be addressed. I live in Webster Groves, I go to church in Kirkwood, it's my hometown and I know so many people who live there and live close to the train tracks. I don't think it's asking too much to ask the Railroad Companies to put in ways to prevent pedestrian deaths and injuries on their tracks (such as putting in fences as just one example).192 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Caitlin Deneau

Extend unemployment for those who lost jobs after June 2012People who got laid off in 2008-2011 got 99 weeks of unemployment due to the Federal unemployment assistance program. However, all of these extensions expire as of Jan 2 - so those who got laid off after June in 2012 only get the regular 26 weeks of unemployment. The unemployment rate is higher than it was in 2008-2010, and it is next to impossible to find work comparable to positions we were laid off from in 6 months. According to the NJ Governors office, all of these who got laid off in 2012, PLUS all of the 99 weekers will be hitting the welfare rolls come January if unemployment is not extended, which would be disastrous to the economy. Those who don't choose to seek welfare (such as myself) will be forced to work 60-80 hours a week at multiple minimum wage jobs, which will most likely NOT meet our living expenses, and not leave much time for looking for a full-time position that will. This petition is asking for a Tier 1 26-week extension for those who were laid off in 2012. We are not asking for 99 weeks, we are just asking for at least another 6 months to give us more of a chance to find a job that would at least come closer to meeting our living expenses than having to rush out and work at a minimum wage service job(s). Many of us have been working for years and thus have paid into the state unemployment system - we are not looking for handouts, just a fair shot at looking for QUALITY work like the 99-weekers have gotten!1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sharon MacGregor

It time that our Congress get on with their jobs!If I didn't do my job at work, I would either be written up or let go. What is the consequence for Congress not doing the people's work. Four day work weeks? Paid trips home? I think they should not get paid when they don't do their job>6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Janice Morrish

Important New Revenue SourceCreate a Financial Transaction Tax that would apply to the purchase and sale of derivatives, options and stocks. Dual purpose would tame the excesses and out of control computerized trading. 1/2% would raise a lot of money. A reinstated speculation tax of $2.00 for every $100 would be of benefit too.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Barbara A Boldenow

Jobs-Not-WarsAs looming cuts to the social safety net are threatened, the military budget should be brought to the calculation. A 25% cut in military funds would not adversely affect the MIC's ability to defend America, but will save over $2T over the next ten years.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mark D. Stansbery
