• Bring back the Fairness Doctrine
I have listened to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and they create hateful and discouraging ideas and points of view. They make their money in trying to divide the country and create division. While everyone should be able to give their point of view, the other side needs to be heard so different points of view are heard and falsehoods corrected.

  • National Holiday for Voting
At least people wouldn't have to reschedule their whole day of work and other house hold tasks to try to make room for time to vote. The time at work would be free to vote so at least every body had a reasanable chance to get to vote even where the lines are long.

  • End The Fiscal Cliff Now
The purpose of this petition is to let congress know that a substantial number of citizens want them to raise taxes on individuals earning more that $250,000 a year as part of a compromise to balance the budget.

  • MAKE ELECTION DAY A FEDERAL HOLIDAY
On Tuesday America watched as long lines of people waited a very long time to vote. Some people were not able to vote because they could not take the time off from work to do so. Making Election Day a federal holiday would alleviate some of the issues we faced on Election Day.

  • Eliminate LIPA
We are seeing the ineptitude of LIPA's management here on Long Island in the aftermath of Sandy. Bring a strong organization in to reduce our costs and better communicate with us. This should be the first step in rebuilding long Island's power grid. We ask the Governor to take bold action.

  • Do away with the Electoral College
The electoral college was necessary when our country was founded. Now, with the widespread availability of electronic communication, the people of the United States should be able to vote on the basis of one vote for each person. That way, the "battleground state" debaucle would go away.

  • Do not re-elect any Republican who refuses compromise
That Republicans kept control of the House of Representatives and the ability to stall the Senate with countless filibusters may not be a problem in the next Congress if they are willing to discuss alternatives and to compromise. But, if they remain determined to continue the same course of "gridlock" as a means of not having to pass any bill not 100% to their liking, they need, finally, be dumped for Democrats or independents in the 2014 elections. President Obama was clearly given a mandate to resolve as many issues in his second term as he did in his first using compromise as a tool to address these issues. However, if Republicans continue their ideologic-based policy of no compromise, they need to be forced to accept the only wake-up call by the only means they seem to understand. The voice of massive defeat by vote of the American people. We can only hope.

  • Amendment to the constitution requiring all items in a legislative act to be reasonably related
Congress is gridlocked and even simple ideas cannot get through the legislative process. Our legislators frequently "poison" good bills with unrelated items to either get bad ideas through the process or to prevent good ideas from moving forward. Lets change the constitution so that all items in a single piece of legislation must be "reasonably related".

  • Lets Get Rid of the outdated Electoral College
The electoral college was established to deal with areas that were hard to get to. Now it is an anomaly. We have not elected a President, we have elected Electoral College representatives. The election for President should be based on a majority of the total vote, not on the Electoral College.

  • Make Emotional Distress a misdemeanor
This is to make cases of emotional distress liable to minor to severe criminal charges depending on each case brought before the court. This would also mean the inclusion of emotional distress in protection orders and family court. I am deeply concerned that courts are overlooking a silent and possibly fatal issue.
