  • Increase Commuter Parking at ODU
Every day that I come to campus I try to park in garage C (the garage by the Ted). And every day I see people on every floor circling like vultures to find that one person that's leaving. The same happens for garage D. Our other options are parking in the back of campus, right off the water, or parking over to the side of campus, which are very long walks. And when an event happens, we are all screwed; floors get closed off and we have nowhere to go. We were told that the increase in metered parking (garage B) was a result of demand, but every time I've gone in there it has been close to empty. The same goes for the faculty garage next to it (garage A). There are a lot of commuters at ODU, and we need more commuter parking NEAR CAMPUS.

  • Native American Day of Remembrance
Native Americans were stripped of their country and their basic rights long ago and forgotten. They should have a national day to remember that they were here in this country first and they were good stewards of the land and lost everything including their lives trying to maintain their lifestyle before it was taken away by immigrants and greed.

  • No Eminent Domain for Private Gain
Keystone XL Pipeline and TransCanada are pushing through private property while landowners and protesters chain themselves to bulldozers. They need help and support. Having grown up in the California suburbs, riding horses, I'm intimately familiar with what happens to land when there's money to be made. Anything goes. It's devastation and desecration.

  • How can you not help "Save Lives from Road Rage?" Road Rage Kills!
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), road rage is defined as "an assault with a motor vehicle or other dangerous weapon by the operator or passenger(s) of another motor vehicle or an assault precipitated by an incident that occurred on a roadway." Road rage requires willful and wanton disregard for the safety of others. According to American Automobile Association (AAA), 1,500 men, women and children are injured or killed yearly and constantly increasing by 7%. -My daughter, Diyamond, age 20, was killed on the highway going west bound on I96 due to road rage. She like many others are now part of that statistic. -Jeremy Bushen, age 22, was killed on the same highway (east bound -I96). -Stevie Beal, at 17, was left paralyze from the waist down. -Braylon Nelson, age 2, was left paralyze. -Billy Fleenor, father of four, was killed And many more....... Our legislator, local, state and federal political officials, have the chance to send a strong zero tolerate message of this behavior through legislator's Road Rage Laws... The time is now to assist in saving lives.

  • Jim DeMint: Apologize for comparing Chicago teachers to "thugs in the Middle East"
Senator Jim DeMint of my home state of SC seems to think that hard working teachers in Chicago are acting like "thugs in the Middle East" when they stand up for their rights. As one of his constituents, I demand he apologize to the people who dedicate themselves to educating the next generation of Americans.

  • Felony Expungment
I was unfortunate enough to get a felony a few years ago for a dui. Although, I understand that I have done wrong and may have potentially killed someone, I believe that my felony should be expundged from my record after 7 years providing I haven't had any recent infractions or even any sort of speeding ticket. The fact that this felony was designed to change the life of someone who deserved it is very real. I have lost more of my life because of it and honestly it makes me not want to live. In all reality all this does is make me want to do the "wrong thing" more. Society demands that you rehabilitate and make yourself a better person but very unwilling to give that chance. I myself know from experience. I have been in school since around 1998 and the best job I could find was one that I was burned constantly, cut, and even litterally burned my eyes at times, and for what, 12.00 an hr. I have been in school for 15 years trying to make myself a better person only to be pushed down and pretty much descriminated against. After 15 years of schooling and being a good person, volunteering for charitable events, being a volunteer fire fighter, being active in our community emergency response team, and doing other various things for my community I still have nothing. I have also been seeing a psychologist since 2006 to help me understand why I did what I did. I have several letters (upon request) from pillars of my community, my probation officer and a sherriff. I would like to have a family someday but I see with the jobs that I am getting I won't be able to raise a child correctly and honestly. Nor will I ever get the chance for a real chance at life or freedom. I know what I did was wrong but I'm asking and pleading, please give me one more chance at living a full life free and clear. At the age of 32 I believe there is still much good I can do for myself, my family, and my community.

  • Justice for the Richmond Chevron Refinery fire
In the wake of the August 6, 2012 Chevron refinery explosion, thousands of Richmond residents ended up in the hospital with respiratory problems, burning eyes, and rashes. Now Chevron thinks they can spread around a little bit of money and get off easy. Well we, the residents of Richmond, are fed up with Chevron failing to put the safety of its workers and Richmond residents first. Chevron needs to be held accountable for the harm they have done to our community.

  • Second round of voter purge in Florida
The first round of voter purging wrongly informed hundreds of legal voters in Florida that they were ineligible to vote. Governor Rick Scott seems to be planning a second round. Can you sign our petition that lets Governor Scott and Secretary of State Ken Detzner know that Floridans are against any measures that would prevent eligible voters from voting?
