Today, California schools are trying to eek out every cent they can and are barely getting by. Instead of thriving and expanding in the programs and services they provide our children, these services are being cut back. School districts are working with bare bones staff, firing teachers and increasing classroom sizes. Do we want that for our state?

NYS homeowners will learn soon enough that unless you accompany the tax levy cap with true local tax relief, and seriously address mandates and other sources of rising costs, the only way is out - out of New York. Pay for Circuit Breaker relief with extension of the Millionaire's tax on true millionaires. Or, re-direct the $1.5 billion property tax revenues - realized by rescinding middle-class STAR - to Circuit Breaker legislation before the legislature right now. Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers paid 10-50 percent of their income in property taxes this year, last year and the year before. A tax cap, whatever its merits, assures annual increases in those tax bills. The ranks of the overly taxed will grow as the recession continues. NYS's problem is NOT state income tax - or maybe it is. When you and those before you say, "No new taxes," you're talking state income taxes. We at the local level know what follows: increased local taxes. Yes, rein in costs with mandate reform, healthcare reform and intelligent policy - but do something NOW that will honestly help the middle-class stay in their homes and in New York. Please, lead with the facts and good public policy for all.

Norwalk La Mirada School District will not let the student walk with thier senior class because the students miss 1 point from passing the CAHSEE Test. These same students are allowed to go to prom and grandnite, because the District gets the money. The District failed to supply these students with Remedial intensive instruction in a Supplemental Program according to California Education Code. We are calling on Norwalk La Mirada District to reverse their policy on not letting the students walk give them a chance to honor their 4yrs of high school and completing all credits requires.

Support against all odds

All Senators and Congressmen should be held to the same term limits as the President. If the president can get be re-elected only once Why are these people there so long? This will keep that seat from becoming a seat of power and corruption, it will keep them humble

15 months ago my husband and I became the proud foster parents of a 3 day old baby. He was born addicted to crack, alchohol and nicotine. We both still had to go to work each day. We were lucky enough that our bosses let us split the day til he was 6 weeks and old enough for daycare, but we were literally exhausted. There is no law that states our employers should give us any maternity leave. We would have lost our jobs if one of us didn't show up. Foster parents should have the same rights as any parents. This is just one of them.

A bill to recapture all unused/wasted Green Cards. Department of State is currently having ridiculous wait for those families (US Citizens or Residents) who made petition to reunite families legally to this country. Unfortunately, Republican and Democratic lawmakers are opposed to do anything about it. Most cases the Wait in between 5-12 years. The current legal Immigration system does not work.

The Ferguson Academy for Young Women is an alternative high school located in Detroit, MI. They provide education and resources for pregnant teens, grades 9-12. Many of the teens come from underprivileged backgrounds and are faced with daily challenges that infringe upon their educational opportunities. The Catherine Ferguson Academy strives to provide quality education in order to ensure a bright future for each child. The goal of the principal and teachers at the academy is to prevent the pregnancy cycle from reoccurring in the next generation of infants. Lots used for farming and a barn built by the students lie adjacent to the school. The barn houses a variety of farm animals that the students help care for. Help keep this school open! We need to continue to support Mama's and their quest of love to support themselves and their beautiful children. Every child is our child:: Let's petition the ACLU Michigan chapter to file a stay in court to prevent the school closure!!!

Three U.S. states have passed anti-Sharia laws since 2010 and now, 17 others are discussing similar bills. While the civil rights of Muslim Americans are being compromised through such legislation, there is ZERO threat of Sharia taking root in the U.S. Law makers should stop wasting our tax dollars pandering to xenophobia during this time of economic crisis.

Two years ago, Gov. Christie said he was going to be the “#1 number one advocate for clean energy.” Instead, he’s taking us backwards. Right before the Memorial Day weekend, he made national news by pulling New Jersey out of a regional pollution compact that was cutting down on global warming pollution and funding solar projects across the state. Now, he’s just announced that he wants to weaken New Jersey’s clean energy goals, and reduce their funding. Tell Gov. Christie to stop hating on clean energy, and ditch his plan to reduce our clean energy standards.

On January 13, 2011, The Abington Township Board of Commissioners made history by voting down a Non-discrimination Ordinance. For the first time in Pennsylvania, a suburban municipality failed to pass a civil rights law. The ordinance would have protected all people who live, work, or conduct business in Abington. By a vote of 10 against (Commissioners John Carlin, Carol DiJoseph, Carol Gillespie, Wayne Luker, Bill Lynott, Peggy Meyers, James Ring, Robert Wachter, and Dennis Zappone) to 5 in favor (Commissioners Ernie Peacock, Les Benzak, Michael O’Connor, Steven Kline and Lori Schreiber), the audience was tearful as the ordinance failed to pass. Please become a civil rights champion to ensure that everyone in Abington is protected against housing, employment, and public accommodation (e.g. being served in a restaurant) discrimination. Our township's reputation, property values, educational system, children's safety, and citizenry are at stake. We're all in this together!

Pledge your support for NYS Senate bill S542. If enacted, this bill would require public high schools and colleges in New York State to provide voter registration forms and changes the minimum age for pre-registering to vote to 17.
