Amazon is forcing it's employees at the CAE1, Columbia, S.C. location to limit their 'Time Off Task" to 3 minutes. The 5 minute Time Off Task Rule was already the lowest at any Amazon facility and a challenge to adhere to, and the new 3 minute "Time Off Task Rule" will be next to impossible to follow. No one abuses this rule because you only have a total of 30 minutes of 'Time Off Task per day. The nearest restroom to me is 50 yards away (half the distance of a football field) and for some associates the nearest restroom may be as far as 100 yards away. Now let's say for a minute that you had to go to the restroom for something other than a normal restroom run. (Which is hard enough to do under 3 minutes when you have to cover 50 yards of distance going and coming.) But let's just say you weren't feeling well that day because you had a stomach disorder or you felt light headed and needed time to adjust your self. These are perfectly acceptable personal reasons why an Amazon associate would be away from their station for more than 3 minutes, yet we're being disciplined for them. The other is we need supplies and we may need to leave our station sometimes to get boxes or labels or change to new labels when you run out. The labels we use come on 1000 label rolls and changing them alone takes longer than 3 minutes. Suppose while you were getting those supplies another associate asked you to explain a procedure to them that they knew little about because there was no manager on the floor and this took more than 3 minutes. Again, you would be in violation of the new 3 minute "Time Off Task Rule". There is something going on here that is even more troubling. Did I mention that our facility is the number two highest producing facility in the entire Amazon network. Yes, we are the number 2 producing facility in the entire Amazon network and that number is up from being the number 11 most producing facility. You would think with numbers like those we would have gotten a bonus or a raise for all of our hard work. Instead, we were punished for it. The employees who work for Amazon are honest hard working people and need their jobs to pay their bills and support their families. They are responsible for the billions of dollars that Amazon makes on a yearly basis and their jobs should not be threatened because they leave their work stations for 3 minutes. Will you please help by standing with the employees of Amazon and sign my petition demanding that Amazon raises it's "Time Off Task Rule to 7minutes or more which would be more reasonable.

On December 13, 2018, one of the most violent and horrifying acts of judicial marshals cooperating with ICE took place in Meriden, CT. Marshals, led by marshal Michael Dyson, became enforcers for ICE. Marshal Dyson and the other marshals, after voluntarily handing over an immigrant father to ICE, proceeded to brutalize his family as they tried to say goodbye, forcibly removed community members while they supported a distraught wife and children, and created a false narrative on official incident reports to justify their violent and rogue behavior. Marshal Dyson has proven that he is unable to resolve any matter in front of him with dignity and fairness nor can he be trusted to serve the interests of justice or the public. We are calling on marshal Michael Dyson to resign.​ But Michael Dyson is not acting alone. Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) is a rogue and violent organization that relies on state and local resources to execute their deportation agenda. We have seen an unprecedented increase in the number of courthouse arrests in Connecticut. While ICE is a bad actor that is deliberately working to destroy families and weaken our communities, ICE would not be able to use our courthouses to execute their deportation agenda without the help of the state of Connecticut, its court administrators, and judicial marshals. Judicial marshals are directly working with ICE to aggressively enforce immigration detainers and granting ICE access to the lock-up and the sally port out of public view---[See our report here: COURTING ICE]. Judicial marshals voluntarily allow ICE unrestricted access to courthouses all across Connecticut. Remember: ICE detainers are NOT judicial warrants and judicial marshals are NOT legally obligated to honor detainer requests. These choices to cooperate with ICE are immoral, cowardly, and a direct violation of the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution.

Domestic Violence has become so familiar in the era we are living in. So many broken families have suffered the loss of a loved one who was involved in a domestic violence relationship. A simple order of protection does not ensure the safety of each individual. The proof is all that is needed to have someone locked up with valid evidence. When a person has been dealing with death threats of all kinds, it should hold weight in the court system. In order to protect, we must take all necessary measures and actions against the violators. Some of these situations may never get resolved with the individual who may be suffering from mental disabilities. Counseling the perpetrators and the petitioners should be a main tactic. Death threats should automatically result in incarceration. We must protect the safety of our women all over the world. Violation of a restraining order may result in the death of the petitioner when we had all the proof needed to save the lives of our women

As the daughter of an immigrant who benefited from the Immigration and Control Reform Act of 1986, I was lucky that growing up I didn't have to live with the fear that my parents might be deported. Unfortunately as the clock ticks for DACA, recipients and their family members live in limbo with daily fear and anxiety. Congress should act now and pass legislation to provide DACA recipients with a path to citizenship. It is time we give DACA recipients and their families an opportunity to succeed.

While we continue to support calls for a climate debate, we must recognize other opportunities to speak out about the climate crisis. The CNN town hall on climate was a good first step. All candidates should also participate in the MSNBC town hall. However, knowing there are Climate Strike events all over the country means every candidate will have an opportunity to step off the political stage and instead join the grassroots movement in solidarity.
