• No more butts on the beach
I am a Tybee Island resident. I grew up in Savannah back when Tybee was Savannah Beach. I was lucky enough to become a full-time Tybee resident around ten years ago. Growing up, we always heard the little slogans like "Keep your butts off the beach". Clearly, those slogans haven't worked. It is appalling at the cigarette butts that are left all over the beach, in the ocean, the sidewalks, everywhere. I think my breaking point was watching a family stand in the water smoking and then when they were finished they THREW THEM IN THE WATER!!! Unfortunately, that wasn't the first time I saw someone do this it just happened to be the first time I saw a group of people do it at once! Enough is enough this is no longer acceptable. It's 2019; we know better!

  • @SpeakerPelosi: Send @RepRoKhanna to the conference to end the Yemen war
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has a historic opportunity to end the famine-causing Saudi war in Yemen. The House has passed the Adam Smith - Ro Khanna Yemen War Powers amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would end all U.S. participation in the war. The House and Senate have both passed the Sanders-Lee-Murphy Yemen War Powers Resolution. The House and Senate have both voted to cut off U.S. arms shipments to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for the war. All Speaker Pelosi has to do now to end the war is insist that the House-Senate conference on the National Defense Authorization Act include provisions to end the war that both the House and the Senate have voted for. Here is a specific, concrete way that Speaker Pelosi can show her commitment to the goal: she can make Rep. Ro Khanna, the original sponsor of Yemen War Powers, a conferee in the House-Senate negotiations on the NDAA. Urge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to send Rep. Ro Khanna to the conference to end the Yemen war by signing our petition.

  • CNN: Prioritize Foreign Policy at the debates next week
In the 2016 primary debates, Democrats were asked on average approximately 2 questions per debate on Foreign Policy. On the other side, Republicans were asked on average over 5 questions per debate on Foreign Policy. Foreign Policy is a core fear-mongering tool of the Republican Party––from ignoring climate change and its global implications to demonizing immigrants and Muslims or instilling the fear of "terrorism" and war. If we want a Democratic president in 2020, Democratic candidates must learn how to answer and argue on behalf of progressive foreign policy principles and stances. Just this week, Donald Trump said that he could kill 10 million people in Afghanistan if he wanted to. In previous months, he has cut off humanitarian aid to Palestine, threatened Iran with war, and increased military presence at the US-Mexico border. Democrats, media, and debate hosts can't keep pushing this issue under the rug in the hopes that it will go away. It won't. Sign the petition to CNN if you agree that it's time to seriously address Foreign Policy and all the implications it brings to our domestic policies––including increasingly militarized police and a bloated pentagon budget––on the debate stage next week.

We volunteer within the refugee & homeless LGBT youth communities in Charlotte and know that there is no middle ground on denouncing white nationalism. We believe unequivocally that you matter, your physical safety matters, and that your family *both chosen and biological* matters. We specifically mean that Black Lives Matter, Latinx Lives Matter, First Nation Lives Matter, Asian Lives Matter, and that ALL families belong together. We celebrate Sherriff McFadden’s tenure and believe that no sum of money is worth our police department’s safety. Now is the time to unite. It is our duty to protect our community; Charlotteans are smart, we are humble, and we are kind, but this year we must draw the line. Please sign the #ResistRNC2020 petition and share to all of your networks both digitally, but most importantly irl (in real life)

  • Congress: Act to Stop Gun Violence Now
Dear Congressepeople, According to Gun Violence Archive, since the start of the year 2016 at least over 400 people were killed with firearms in Missouri, and even more were injured, during situations that did not involve the perpetrator acting in self-defense. On the other hand, in the same time frame, Gun Violence Archive has only listed 14 events in which guns were used defensively by the perpetrators, and during those events, 16 people were killed and 14 were injured. Therefore, to say that the Second Amendment prohibits legislation regarding gun control is inaccurate and annoying, especially given the verdict for the Supreme Court Case Heller vs. District of Columbia.

  • Trump’s bigotry and racism show it's time to begin impeachment proceedings
Trump’s attacks on communities of color have been relentless. His policies have targeted immigrant communities, Muslims, Black people, and people of other marginalized faiths and identities. He initiated and enforced the Muslim Ban, which is actively keeping Muslims from entering this country, and violating our constitutional right to equal protection under the law. He is caging brown and Black people at the border, and putting asylum-seekers through hellish, inhumane conditions—violating our constitutional right to due process. He is separating children from their parents at the border, with no timeline for any reunification, violating our Constitution’s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. He is calling for increased ICE raids, making sure that every one of the 11 million undocumented people in this country lives in incessant fear for their families and their livelihoods. His attacks on me and my fellow Members of Congress, who are also women of color, are simply a small manifestation of his bigoted ideology. Recently, Trump attacked me and my fellow Members of Congress on Twitter, telling us to “go back” to where we came from. And at a campaign rally, his supporters serenaded him with chants of “Send Her Back!” Any person of color in this country has heard these words at some point in their lives. And yet, each of us are from this country. This place is our home. People of color are woven into the fabric of this country, and we belong here. Many Americans are immigrants, but Trump doesn't hate all immigrants—only if they're not white. Trump has made it his personal vendetta to actively attack communities of color across this country, whether by words or policy. The comments he made against me and Reps. Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are just the tip of the iceberg in reflecting his racist and bigoted ideology. What is ultimately more harmful and dangerous: his policymaking. We cannot allow this to be normalized in America. If we do nothing, we set a dangerous precedent. This country belongs to all of us. It is our home, and no racist president can take that away from us. That's among the many reasons why my fellow Members of Congress need to step up and begin impeachment proceedings, starting with opening an impeachment inquiry. In addition to his obstruction of justice and abuses of power, Trump’s racism and white supremacy translated into policy warrant impeachment—which were also rationales for impeachment articles against Andrew Johnson in 1868. For the people living in fear under this racist and xenophobic administration, we cannot wait one more day to hold Trump accountable.

  • Stop The East Marion Community Association
The East Marion Community Association sponsored a vote to include a number of main road homes into a historic district. This vote was biased because abstaining from the vote was considered a yes. Unfair, because co-owned homes were given a vote per owner, single owners got one vote. The vote was announced AFTER the historic committee had its ducks in a row, knowing that the vote was skewed to a windfall. Only owners who objected to the district had to vote, and to do so required the homeowner to notarize a document proving ownership and location, and then mail the objection to the parks department, all at the owner's expense. Some paperwork from the parks department was sent to addresses other than the actual residences and delivered AFTER all the hearings were completed. A number of residents were unaware that they had to write in a 'no' vote, and some did not receive ANY paperwork. Some residents were under the impression that an actual vote was going to take place in the "COMMUNITY", which did not happen. The committee promoting this historic district was comprised largely of homeowners who rent their home outside the legal 2-week local code. We ask that the "East Marion Community Association'' be dissolved because it has NOT acted on behalf of ALL the residents in this community. We also ask to see the emails and notes of the committee who researched this vote, which has resulted in our homes being registered in a historic district AGAINST our wishes. We collectively ask that "The East Marion Community Association", of East Marion NY 11939, be dissolved at once before they force another, even more unwanted, biased, and unfair special interest agenda on its residents.

  • Governor Wolf, Investigate Spike in Childhood Cancers in PA Shale Fields
We delivered a letter making the same demands of Governor Tom Wolf almost exactly a month ago. More than 100 organizations and 800 individuals signed the letter. On June 19th, two days after we submitted the letter electronically, the Better Path Coalition and its partners hosted a brown bag briefing at the Capitol on new research on health and climate impacts of shale gas development. We hand-delivered the letter to the Governor's office, along with copies of the reports we discussed. The night before our event, we were excited to see the headline that said Governor Wolf was considering an investigation, but the next day, just hours after receiving the paper copy and the reports, I received a letter from Governor Wolf saying that there would be no investigation. "We will continue to research and study the evidence from Pennsylvania, and closely monitor the academic literature as it develops elsewhere," he said. (Read the letter here, http://bit.ly/WolfReply) We need much more than that. We need to know if rare cancers are turning up in other areas of the state where shale gas development has been active. We need to know if rare cancer diagnoses have spiked in other age groups. We need to know what parents of healthy children must do to make sure their kids aren't cancer patients by the time they're in their 20s. We've created this petition as a companion to the letter we delivered last month and are asking for Pennsylvanians and non-Pennsylvanians alike to sign it. • Preserve Honeydew Creek's Community Park
This petition addresses the desirability of preserving the functionality to the fullest degree of the Honeydew Creek BLM Campground. The quality of life of all residents of the lower Mattole Valley and the desirability of the King Range as a destination eco-tourism attraction to hundreds of others are jeopardized by plans to downsize the facility.

  • PBS should tell us the truth.
On May 7, 2019, after that week’s broadcast of “Frontline” on PBS, the Frontline announcer said that next week’s broadcast would be “One Day in Gaza,” a documentary about a peaceful protest that turned deadly on May 14, 2018. A week later, exactly one year from the date of the protest, Frontline instead rebroadcast a slightly updated version of a documentary about the Mueller investigation. Repeated requests to PBS, Frontline, and a member station to ask why the showing of “One Day in Gaza” was canceled and when it would be broadcast have gone unanswered. Whatever one’s position on Israel and the Palestinians, it is generally understood that organizations that accept taxpayer dollars have a responsibility to be transparent with taxpayers about how their money is being spent. PBS receives taxpayer funding through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. However, concerning the decision to cancel the scheduled broadcast of “One Day in Gaza,” PBS has remained silent, choosing to hide from the public rather than be forthcoming. Which raises the question: PBS, what are you hiding? And why? PBS viewers, members, and the general public deserve an answer.
