The current Chief of Police, Scott Ruszkowski has failed in disciplining and removing racist officers from the South Bend police force. I am a Tybee Island resident. I grew up in Savannah back when Tybee was Savannah Beach. I was lucky enough to become a full-time Tybee resident around ten years ago. Growing up, we always heard the little slogans like "Keep your butts off the beach". Clearly, those slogans haven't worked. It is appalling at the cigarette butts that are left all over the beach, in the ocean, the sidewalks, everywhere. I think my breaking point was watching a family stand in the water smoking and then when they were finished they THREW THEM IN THE WATER!!! Unfortunately, that wasn't the first time I saw someone do this it just happened to be the first time I saw a group of people do it at once! Enough is enough this is no longer acceptable. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has a historic opportunity to end the famine-causing Saudi war in Yemen. The House has passed the Adam Smith - Ro Khanna Yemen War Powers amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would end all U.S. participation in the war. The House and Senate have both passed the Sanders-Lee-Murphy Yemen War Powers Resolution. The House and Senate have both voted to cut off U.S. arms shipments to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for the war. All Speaker Pelosi has to do now to end the war is insist that the House-Senate conference on the National Defense Authorization Act include provisions to end the war that both the House and the Senate have voted for. Here is a specific, concrete way that Speaker Pelosi can show her commitment to the goal: she can make Rep. Ro Khanna, the original sponsor of Yemen War Powers, a conferee in the House-Senate negotiations on the NDAA. Urge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to send Rep. Ro Khanna to the conference to end the Yemen war by signing our petition.

In the 2016 primary debates, Democrats were asked on average approximately 2 questions per debate on Foreign Policy. On the other side, Republicans were asked on average over 5 questions per debate on Foreign Policy. Foreign Policy is a core fear-mongering tool of the Republican Party––from ignoring climate change and its global implications to demonizing immigrants and Muslims or instilling the fear of "terrorism" and war. If we want a Democratic president in 2020, Democratic candidates must learn how to answer and argue on behalf of progressive foreign policy principles and stances. Just this week, Donald Trump said that he could kill 10 million people in Afghanistan if he wanted to. In previous months, he has cut off humanitarian aid to Palestine, threatened Iran with war, and increased military presence at the US-Mexico border. Democrats, media, and debate hosts can't keep pushing this issue under the rug in the hopes that it will go away. It won't. Sign the petition to CNN if you agree that it's time to seriously address Foreign Policy and all the implications it brings to our domestic policies––including increasingly militarized police and a bloated pentagon budget––on the debate stage next week.
