San Bernardino Deputy District Attorney Michael Selyem made despicable remarks about U.S. Representative Maxine Waters. Selyem said in a Facebook post that “being a loud-mouthed c*** in the ghetto you would think someone would have shot this b*tch by now.” Selyem also goes on to attack victims of police violence by saying, “the sh*tbag got exactly what he deserved.” This is unacceptable. Oftentimes, our folks are left in the dark about the powerful role prosecutors and District Attorneys play in the criminal justice system. It is not commonly known these people are elected officials with the power to decide the fate of our communities. Selyem’s clear hatred of Black people should disqualify him from his position. The role of a prosecuting attorney is to objectively uphold the law - not to incite violence against an elected official. He cannot be allowed to serve in this public role any longer. It is not possible for Selyem to do his job without bias while also harboring vile and hateful views of communities of color. Selyem must be fired immediately. District Attorney Mike Ramos has a duty to remove Selyem from office. Otherwise, failing to do so compromises the integrity of his office. Our tax dollars cannot be used to employ an unabashed racist! Selyem must go now! In a moment where Black women leaders like Maxine Waters are being attacked, we have to stand up and fight with them! My ministry at church is outreach. I have seen first hand the homeless issue and it's heartbreaking. Very few people choose to be homeless. Let's ALL show them the respect that they deserve. Give them a job that they can be proud of. Other States have done this and it works.
