• #IvankaReuniteRefugeeChildren
Like so many other people, I am horrified by the administration's policy of separating refugee children from their parents at the border. Senator Jeff Merkley recently visited a detention center where these children are warehoused and exposed the horrific conditions in which they are held. These children are housed in large cages with other children of all ages crying and mourning the forced separation from their parents. Ivanka Trump is in a unique position as the daughter of the President and a member of his administration. She has a very close relationship with her father and may be the only person who could convince him to change his position on this unconscionable policy. She is a self-identified feminist and mother. This is an attempt to appeal to her humanity and heart. If she spoke to her father, he just might change his mind. To see an example of a letter I sent to Ivanka, click here - https://tinyurl.com/y7q43fcg. Please tweet Ivanka @IvankaTrump with the hashtag #IvankaReuniteRefugeeChildren along with your own message, a picture of you with your children, or another image that could awaken her compassion. This is about appealing to her heart, not shaming or attacking her. Shaming and attacking her will not create the change we want. Many of us have much deeper criticisms of the policies of the Trump administration and are in the streets challenging them. The goal of this petition is much more narrow. This particular outrage is one that violates all universal norms of humanity. Thus, we are attempting to reach the hearts of as many people as possible, including those who might disagree with us on other issues. So please share this not only with those who already oppose Trump or this policy, but also with members of your family, colleagues, co-workers, and others who normally would not publicly oppose Trump but who might be moved on this particular issue to sign this petition. • Reclaim our Park: Lindbergh Park named after Nazi Sympathizer
As someone who was born and raised in Culver City, I learned the importance of celebrating all people who are a part of our community. Charles Lindbergh did not share those values and we should not have a park named after him. Here are a few things he said: During World War II, Charles Lindbergh was the lead spokesperson for the America First Committee. Lindbergh gave a speech to a huge crowd in Des Moines, in which he described the agitators for the U.S. to enter the war. There were three groups: the British, the government, and “the Jewish race.” “Their greatest danger to this country lies in their large ownership and influence in our motion pictures, our press, our radio, and our government,” he told the audience. He wrote, in an infamous essay published by Reader’s Digest in November, 1939, weeks after the war in Europe began, that Western nations “can have peace and security only so long as we band together to preserve that most priceless possession, our inheritance of European blood.” President Roosevelt disliked Lindbergh's outspoken opposition to his administration's interventionist policies, telling Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau, "If I should die tomorrow, I want you to know this, I am absolutely convinced Lindbergh is a Nazi." In 1941 he wrote to Secretary of War Henry Stimson: "When I read Lindbergh's speech I felt that it could not have been better put if it had been written by Goebbels himself. What a pity that this youngster has completely abandoned his belief in our form of government and has accepted Nazi methods because apparently they are efficient." Sign our petition to reclaim our park and demand the city of Culver City change the name of the park to better represent our community’s values.

  • Wellington RV Parking
My husband and I are tired of being taken advantage of in Wellington. Not everyone here owns horses or has a lot of expendable cash. I think it would be a nice benefit to the residents here and we have the space. Let’s make it happen!

  • Housing solution for Puerto Rican American evacuees
We Unite Organizations, Inc under our humanitarian program Human Rights Festival has been at the forefront of the battle for the humane and dignified treatment of Puerto Rican American evacuees residing stateside. We have worked with the population daily providing hands on humanitarian aide and in the areas of advocating. An end to the Transitional Shelter Assistance is looming, as the final date is June 30th and legislation has been introduced to provide a more permanent solution for the evacuees nationwide. The Disaster Housing Assistance Program normally initiated by FEMA and administered by H.U.D has been denied for the less the 2,500 people remaining on TSA vouchers. This legislation is the ONLY solution left to this humanitarian crisis. The evacuee population has no collective voice as they reside in different states around the nation. We ask the American people to collectively raise their voice in the disaster victims behalf.

  • Chris Collins Must Debate Nate McMurray
Chris Collins has not had a debate in 6 years, since the 2012 race against Kathy Hochul. That's three election cycles. American democracy is a marketplace of ideas. Voters deserve to hear both candidates challenged on the issues in order to make an informed decision come November.

  • Bradley Byrne, NRA money
Bradley Byrne receives monetary support from the NRA which affects his votes vis-a-vis gun laws. Alabama has loose laws and many gun lovers. THere are multiple gun shows with no accountability not to mention a strong KKK fanction alive and active. My granddaughters are in Mobile Public Schools where little kindergartners and first and second graders have to have SHOOTER Drills.

  • Bring Edgardo Home From ICE Detention
Edgardo came to the US as a teenager by himself to escape gang violence in Guatemala. He has lived in the United States for 16 years. Now, ICE wants to send him back to that violence, to a country he hasn’t seen in over 16 years. Since 2012, he has been a leader in the immigrants’ rights movement in Connecticut with CT Students for a Dream and the Connecticut Immigrant Rights Alliance. Edgardo has fought for the rights of his community as an organizer and leader, educating and empowering his community, now we need to fight for him! Everyone who meets him is overwhelmed by and grateful for the love he has for people and his community. Edgardo is also a committed member of St Peter Catholic Church in Danbury, where he teaches catechism. Despite living here for 18 years, Edgardo does not qualify for DACA as he entered the country above the age limit, at 16 years old. If the DREAM Act had passed this year, he would have qualified. But instead, he now sits in a Detention Center. ICE has arrested a local immigrants’ rights organizer who was instrumental in C4D’s recent win for institutional financial aid for undocumented students. ICE is trying to spread fear in our communities through its tactics. But we will not be moved, this is our home and we are #HereToStay. Let’s fight for Edgardo like he fought for all of us! Someone of his caring and commitment should be SUPPORTED — not deported. Please take action NOW and demand that ICE release him immediately!

  • Stop the Gentrification Bill
Most Philadelphians make less than $48,000 a year, but high-end housing is growing many times faster than affordable housing. A Construction Impact Tax is desperately needed to incentivize and subsidize development of Affordable Housing... but we must make sure the tax funds go towards equitable development for ALL Philadelphians. It's not fair if all of the funding goes toward apartments that rent for $1500-$2500 a year, which would be possible under the current wording. That's why we need to amend the bill to make sure half the funding go towards housing that is affordable to ALL, and the other half can go to Middle Income housing, to reflect the fact that most Philadelphians struggle to afford even "middle income" housing.

  • Say NO to a very bad plan for Six Corners.
A senior building in this location would not spur economic development in this area or attract the type of retailers we wish to bring here. We support Senior Citizen housing but this is the wrong time and place for this. In areas that are struggling with economic development, you bring in younger generations who have disposable income and no children; who will also walk to the trains and use public transportation; who will shop, eat and play in our community and then hopefully years later plant their roots in a nearby home to raise their families. Instead, Arena wants to put 10 floors of Seniors with MARKET RATE (no Affordable housing), and also assisted living and Dementia floors (a Nursing home). Alderman Arena, Ryan Companies US and Clark Street Real Estate will host a community meeting on this proposal at 6:30 pm Thursday, June 21, at Filament Theatre, 4041 N. Milwaukee.
