• Greenway Pedestrian Bridge Over Western Avenue
Franklin Brown (14) on May 24, 2013, attempted to cross Western Avenue and was struck and killed by a large moving van. Our community would love to see the new Greenway Pedestrian Bridge over Western Avenue memorialized in Franklin’s name in the hopes of persuading other children and adults to take the extra time to use the overpass safely and not try to beat traffic crossing the 5-lane road.

  • Steel mill
I am a resident of Braddock. I own my home and have been in the area for about 10 years now. Not only can't we enjoy sitting on our porch because of the smell of the steel mill, but the dirt and debris are unbearable. We can’t even open a window in our home to get fresh air or a cool breeze. I am also concerned with the health of my daughters and me. Since we’ve lived in the area, we have had a lot of respiratory issues that we weren’t experiencing before. I am a taxpayer and it’s not fair to me or other residents. The CEO, managers, and employees who work in the mill don’t have to live and put up with the environmental issues, so why should we?

  • Please help the Kids who are being separated from their parents
Separating kids from parents when they are asking for asylum in the US is inhumane. On top of this, the enforcers do not currently have any methodical database to track these parents and their kids. And these parents will not have the means or the ability to find their kids in a foreign land. This is why we are asking Doctors Without Borders to intervene with psychological counseling and try to keep one database so that they could be reunited once this nightmare is over. The drug cartels are taking these innocent parents and kids as ransom at the Mexican side of our border. Hence the reason we are asking the Red Cross to intervene to try and keep these people safe on the Mexican side so that their applications can be processed in a safe, nonthreatening environment. All this inhumanity can be terminated by ONE person. And that is the US Attorney General - Jeff Sessions. And we are asking him to do that ASAP. • Senators Schumer and Gillibrand: Act Now to Stop the Separation of Families
This petition is about asking our two senators to take a visible role in stopping the Trump policy of separating migrant families as an immigration deterrent. This is a cruel and inhumane policy.

  • Petition to end Citizen-Based-Taxation
The United States is the only country besides Eritrea that unjustifiably imposes two tax systems on its citizens abroad. This taxation hurts the US economy by making US citizens noncompetitive, increases cost of IRS collection, hurts our exports, and causes discrimination of Americans overseas.

  • Remove NRA influence from the Boy Scouts of America
Increasingly, the values of Scouting and the NRA are contradictory. The BSA should withdraw their association with this political advocacy organization which runs counter to the values of many of the families which engage in Scouting.

  • Protect Riverhead with Covenants in EPCAL Contract
There is much debate in Riverhead about whether the Town Board should vote that the Calverton Aviation & Technology is Qualified and Eligible to purchase the last 1,640 acres of land at EPCAL However, there is broad agreement that the contract railroaded by the former Board at its last meeting in December is flawed and does not adequately protect the long-term interests of the Town. Rather than trust in the good intentions of the Ghermezian family, the contract must be modified or supplemented with these five specified covenants to guarantee that if the land is sold to them, the 600 developable acres are used only for the proper purpose and the 1,000 undevelopable acres are returned to the Town. Such covenants permanently "run with the land," irrespective of who owns it. Deeds that formalize future sales would be obliged by law to repeat these same covenants.

June 22 Update: The Trump administration plan to fix the humanitarian crisis they created puts children in cages with their parents indefinitely and offers no guarantee that children already taken from parents will be reunited. We have to keep the pressure on. --- Recent news stories of children being torn away from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border are heartbreaking. One story described a mother whose baby girl was yanked from her arms while she was breastfeeding her. The mother cried out and tried to hang on to her child as government agents forcibly separated them. Hundreds of other families have been torn apart since the Trump administration enacted this brutal new policy. This shockingly cruel, traumatic, and inhumane practice has no place in our country. It must be stopped immediately, and without holding these children hostage to pass other anti-immigrant policies. We must speak loudly enough, and in large enough numbers, that the media stays focused on this story. I've joined the National Domestic Workers Alliance to launch this petition. Please sign it and stay tuned for more ways to help these families.

  • Against Proposed Josephine County Firearms Ordinance
Josephine County Commissioners have proposed an unnecessary and ill-considered anti-gun control ordinance which, in its initial draft, would prohibit the Josephine County Sheriff's Office from "investigating, detecting, apprehending or incarcerating persons whose only violation of the law is to carry, manufacture, import, possess, purchase, sell or transfer firearms or firearm-related items." This proposed ordinance is an effort to make an end run around possible passage of state Initiative Petition 43. IP 43 is a very reasonable petition which will ban the sale of certain semi-automatic weapons and high capacity magazines, and require anyone who currently owns such weapons to either register them with the state or get rid of them. We need to let our county commissioners know that the proposed county ordinance is an extreme measure that does not represent what is good for our county. It cuts off healthy discussion and discounts reasonable controls for keeping us and our children safe from gun violence.
