Senator David Perdue has received $1,825,006 in NRA support. The entire country has watched in horror as terrorists have used legally purchased assault weapons to wage war on innocent citizens. It's time to choose a side.

Too many innocent citizens are being murdered by firearms and many of our representatives, including this one, continue to vote against protecting our families. NRA influence puts their profit above our safety and there must be no possible​ conflict of interest. I have been affected by gun violence having had my cousin and her two daughters murdered in a domestic disturbance. My family never truly recovered. I want to see my Senators refuse to be beholden to the NRA and help pass some commonsense gun laws. In the wake of mass shootings, citizens want to see creative work towards solving our gun violence. Bipartisan work is crippled by NRA money affecting election campaigns, such as those for Senator Toomey.

Earlier this month, Jane Doe, a 17 year old refugee risked her life and crossed the border alone seeking refuge in the United States. When she arrived, immigration officials detained her against her will. She soon found out she was pregnant and decided to seek an abortion. The Trump administration stepped in, using every tool at their disposal to force Jane to maintain an unwanted pregnancy. They subjected her to coercive religious counseling and an invasive sonogram. A federal appeals court overturned the administration’s attempts to block her access, but the fight for reproductive freedom for women like Jane is not over. Her case is part of a pattern and policy of denying abortion care to refugee and immigrant women and girls. The man trying to control Jane’s body and her future is a well-known anti-contraception and anti-abortion activist, E. Scott Lloyd, who now oversees Trump’s Office of Refugee Resettlement. With no relevant experience, Lloyd is still in office and has the power to decide the fate of thousands of refugee women like Jane. We can’t let men like Lloyd control our bodies. We know they won't stop at Jane. Add your name to demand access to reproductive health care for all immigrant and refugee women.

My medical training years ago in the Emergency Room brought me face to face with the victims of gun violence. Today, I am just as distraught as I learn of one mass shooting after another, with men, women, and children--citizens of our country--being senselessly slaughtered. I want to take action somehow and began this petition to our senator requesting that he re-examine his taking of NRA money. Will you join me?

Gun violence is a problem in our country, and although it cannot be completely eliminated, steps can be taken that would save many lives in the future. The Las Vegas tragedy is another in a long line of tragic incidents. Reinstituting the federal ban on assault weapons should be a first step. Even Ronald Reagan co-signed a letter urging the U.S. House of Representatives to support a ban on the manufacture of "assault weapons." Why won't Dennis Ross support such a law? According to an article in the American Journal of Medicine, Americans are 10 times more likely to be killed by guns than people in other developed countries. Firearm death rates per 100,000 in the US are 10.2 compared with 1.8 in Norway, 2.8 in France (where most deaths were terrorism related), and 0.6 in Spain. Just because we cannot prevent all gun violence, shouldn’t we try to prevent the 90% that is preventable with new legislation? Dennis Ross has received at least $19,375 from the NRA. The majority of Americans support prevention of gun violence, but instead of common sense legislation, we suffer the tragedies of THE BEST DEMOCRACY THAT MONEY CAN BUY!

As a physician in training years ago, I took care of victims of gun violence. Today I am overwhelmed by the growing number of senseless slaughters of men, women, and children in our great country. I can't just stand silently by.

I don't want military style weapons to be legal in our country any more.

It is about the gun lobby buying the support of key legislators while pushing more firearms on the streets, which have been used to kill over 160 people this year alone in St Louis, MO.

I am sick of elected officials working on behalf of lobbyists and not their constituents.
