Congress let funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) lapse on September 30, endangering continued health care coverage for nearly 9 million American children, including 22,310 Maine children. Sixty Maine legislators signed a letter to Maine's Congressional delegation in response. State Senator Rebecca Millett asks Mainers to join them in urging quick action by Congress to reauthorize CHIP.

Sign the pledge to take personal action to confront sexual harassment and assault in your daily life — when you sign, add a comment with at least one proactive behavior you will change, add, or adopt. Then share with and tag other people you want to invite to join you in being part of the solution, including men! 

 #MeToo has sparked an outpouring of personal stories of sexual harassment and assault.  

But in order to change the status quo, where an estimated 1-in-3 women in the US are sexually assaulted, we need those who are most commonly doing the harassment or assault — and most often upholding that behavior by not actively opposing it — to speak out, and change their actions. 

In other words, men need to be part of this conversation. We are most frequently and most egregiously guilty of sexual assault or harassment — and those who indirectly benefit from the oppression of women. 

 Take the pledge to act, and share with everyone who you want to invite to join you in taking on sexual harassment and assault — particularly the men in your lives. 

 While sexual assault can happen to anyone—including men—there is also a pattern of intersecting oppression that makes some of us more vulnerable than others, especially transgender people and those who identify as neither women nor men. And the locus of the conversation needs to shift to people who are less likely to experience it, and what we're going to do—those of us who are men have a responsibility to choose to take action, so that it's not only on those who have experienced harassment or assault to also confront it. Trump has a long and disgraceful history of disrespecting veterans and military families, but his callous treatment of Myeshia Johnson - whose husband was killed in Niger earlier this month - proves once and for all that he is unfit to be Commander in Chief. When Trump called Ms. Johnson, not only did he tell the grieving widow that her husband, Sgt. La David T. Johnson "knew what he signed up for," he even struggled to remember the fallen soldier's name! As an Afghanistan veteran, I want to know when Congress will finally stand up for our military community. Trump must be held accountable for his attacks on troops, veterans and their families. Tell Congress to censure Trump now.

With America having one of the highest teen pregnancy rates among the industrialized countries, it is important to address this issue in its simplest way, by granting young girls the benefit of planning their futures and contribute to society without having to spend hundreds of dollars on things that should be free. As a young woman I have found myself many times being told that if I happen to get pregnant I will automatically ruin my life, it is not a secret that teen pregnancy is still seen as a taboo and has a great deal of misconceptions, but if teen pregnancy is such a complicated and delicate topic, why is the government not addressing this?, instead of spending thousands of dollars in school sexual education programs promoting abstinence (that by the way has been statistically proven do not help much), why not just invest in a more open sexual education that treats both males and females equally while promoting safe consensual sex? A new generation of empowered women comes a long with great benefits for the country as a whole: less insurance money spent on abortions for unwanted pregnancies and psychological treatment of women that go through with the process, less suicide rates in the female population, higher female graduation rates from 4-year universities, slower population growth (population growth is an essential cause of most societal problems), better economy because of the influence of educated well-formed women, etc. If it was your daughter, your sister, or even yourself who was in that position... what would you do?

Our world has become numb to the ongoing tragedies and it is time for a good, old fashioned, peaceful, UPRISING! My hope is that people will agree and go outside and start a conversation with their neighbors and this will grow into a global conversation. The space station will film the lights turning on as it orbits the globe and this will be the sign of our collective voice for the above ideals, one our leaders simply cannot ignore. I have friends who took their own lives because they were bullied, disrespected, and unaccepted by those around them. I cannot hold hands with my significant other in public without being fearful of what might happen to us. Leelah Alcorn made a difference but Donald Trump took that away and erased it. This is an outrage. I am outraged. We are human beings.

Our country is facing a grave risk from the opioid crisis. The Drug Czar cannot be another political crony or a payback for a favor. The job demands a person of intelligence, a well-informed person whose only agenda is to rid our country of this scourge.

First of all, I got a DUI myself when I used to drink that "ship". When you are wrong, you have to admit it - really! The reason there are so many accidents associated with alcohol consumption is because the intoxicated drivers are driving extremely carelessly - breaking many other laws.

The laws on the road are not being enforced as rigorously as they have to be - bottom line! If the state and local governments do not stop this madness on the road, things will get even worse - trust me! When I drive on the roads, there are just too many laws being violated continuously.

The Pawtucket taxpayers should have a say on this decision. We will be responsible for this stadium for decades to come, all others are having their voices heard but us. Sign the petition and help get this on the ballot

Voting is the most fundamentally significant right under our Constitution because the right to vote in a free and unimpaired manner is the preservative of other basic civil and political rights. Offering no-excuse absentee voting will expand access to the ballot box for all Pennsylvanians and make it easier for Pennsylvanians to participate in our democracy. “[T]he right to vote is too precious, too fundamental to be burdened or conditioned.” Harper v. Virginia State Bd. of Elections, 383 U.S. 663, 670 (1966).

The largest proposed oil-by-rail export terminal in North America is proposed for the Port of Vancouver, WA and it's a disaster for Washington State and the climate. Big Oil is trying to force their project through by paying for Kris Greene's election -- they have contributed $370,000, which is 90% of all the money that he has raised. And his former campaign manager recently admitted that “Big Oil is completely dictating where every penny is going." With Big Oil pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars into this race, we know the only way to stop this affront to our democracy, communities, and environment, is by organizing thousands of ordinary people to fight back.
