• Rep. Ciscomani, Codify Roe Now!
The GOP continues to attack a person’s right to reproductive healthcare in National Defense Authorization Act by removing the ability of the military to pay for travel of a person to a state that allows abortion in order to obtain an abortion or other reproductive healthcare, even if their life is in danger. Representative Ciscomani supported this action. With new and proposed abortion bans, tens of millions of people have lost access to this fundamental healthcare. We need to ensure that our Congressman does everything he can to preserve our rights to bodily autonomy.

  • Starbucks: Let Workers Show Their Pride!
Starbucks workers will not be silenced. Just this weekend, Starbucks Workers United striked over Starbucks’ hypocritical treatment of LGBTQIA+ workers and their illegal union-busting campaign. 21 stores temporarily closed, including the flagship Reserve Roastery in Seattle. This is historic – there has never been a strike on queer and trans workers rights. Starbucks has built its business on claims of being a progressive company. Yet all too often, its actions don't live up to these proclaimed values. Reports and videos of managers refusing to allow rainbow flags are not the first attacks on the queer workers and customers who help drive their stories. Let's hold Starbucks accountable and make it clear that we're not buying their empty claims to be a good company.

  • Protect our reproductive rights from MAGA attacks!
More than half of US states are almost certain or likely to ban abortion now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v Wade. Several states already have abortion bans on the books, which are now put in motion with the federal government no longer protecting reproductive rights. With new and proposed abortion bans, tens of millions of people have lost access to this fundamental healthcare. We need to ensure that our Congressman does everything he can to preserve women's rights to bodily autonomy. This petition will be printed out and hand delivered to Congressman D'Esposito's office.

  • Investigate and Impeach Samuel Alito
Paul Singer is a billionaire who donates to rightwing causes and has been part of cases heard by the Supreme Court. He also paid for Justice Samuel Alito's luxury vacation—with $1000/night lodging and flight on a private jet. It's one thing for Singer to curry favor with lavish gifts. It's another for a Supreme Court justice, who should be held to the highest levels of scrutiny and of ethics, to accept these gifts. Not only did Alito accept the vacation, but he never disclosed it, and did not recuse himself from cases involving his benefactor, Singer. This is the latest example of why the Supreme Court needs a clear and enforceable code of ethics. Justice Clarence Thomas has received hundreds of thousands in gifts from rightwing megadonor Harlan Crow—who also owns the home where Thomas's mother lives rent-free and paid for private school tuition for Thomas's godchild. While we need a code of ethics, we also need thorough investigations into what gifts the justices received, from whom, and what business those benefactors had before the court. We need investigations on why the justices failed to disclose these gifts or recuse themselves. And we need impeachment hearings to pursue wrongdoings that bring shame to the court and corruption to the cause of justice. This Supreme Court has been packed by Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell and is now in the thrall of a rightwing majority that's out of step with the American people, that overturns decades of precedent, that legislates from the bench, and that pursues a conservative crusade to strip tens of millions of Americans of their freedoms and their rights, while protecting corporations, polluters, and billionaires. No wonder the court is at its lowest approval rating in history as it has squandered public trust with its crusades and corruption We ultimately need to expand and rebalance the court to restore its integrity. In the meantime, the Senate should immediately launch investigations into Alito, as well as Thomas, to learn the truth behind these undisclosed gifts—and follow the evidence to real accountability, including impeachment.

  • It's Time to Confront India's Human Rights Abuses
A recent State Department report details significant human rights abuses that have occurred under Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s near-decade in power, including cases of extrajudicial killings, torture, unjustified arrests, and the targeting of religious minorities, dissidents, and journalists. Despite these alarming trends, the United States continues to seek to strengthen its partnership with India — and the Modi government — to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars in U.S. “security” assistance and weapons deals. We can’t let President Biden ignore India's human rights record, and that’s why we need you to speak up for peace and justice TODAY. The partnership between our two countries cannot come at the expense of turning a blind eye to India's human rights abuses. Prime Minister Modi arrived in Washington yesterday, so the time to speak up is now — and luckily, you’ll be far from alone when you do. Dozens of human rights groups, more than 70 members of Congress including Rep. Pramila Jayapal and Sen. Chris Van Hollen, and activists here in DC and around the country are already speaking out — can you join them to call on the White House to go further toward justice and accountability?

  • Lack of Full Public Notification/Discussion on Carmel Knolls Public Restrooms Construction
The availability of public restrooms will create a significant change in the patterns of use of our park. While public restrooms are an amenity for those that need them, they also attract a well-known range of problems from substantially increased park usage and noise, graffiti, odors and cleanliness, loitering, potential drug use, and increases in nearby homeless encampments. There are many improvements needed in Carmel Knolls Park that are eligible for the millions of dollars of funds allocated for this purpose. We need to make sure these funds are spent wisely and where they will provide the most comprehensive community benefits for our neighborhood.

  • Add "The Hill We Climb" to every recommended reading list in the country
It only took one complaint and one week for a school in Miami-Dade County to restrict Amanda Gorman’s book—“The Hill We Climb”—and limit access for younger students. It was one book of several that an individual parent reported, citing that it was “not educational” and contained indirect hate speech. [1] Schools should not so swiftly censor literature based on the whims of individual parents. This is part of a sweeping trend across the country to ban and restrict books, often targeting authors and content from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups. And because of conservative laws being passed on the local and state level, it’s even easier in many places for a small but loud minority to challenge books—and win. In response to the incident, Amanda Gorman wrote: “The Hill We Climb is an inaugural poem for the world. Relocating it to older age group library shelves by its nature bars younger and equally deserving generations from accessing said moment in history.” [2] Amanda Gorman made history when she read “The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden’s inauguration—the youngest inaugural poet to date. People of all ages deserve to have access to her work and see themselves not only in the context of that moment, but also in the possibilities of the future. They, too, can make history. We refuse to allow one parent’s opinion to limit our children's freedom to read, learn, and imagine. Join us in calling on the Department of Education and State Education Departments to add “The Hill We Climb” to every associated recommended reading list in the country and to reaffirm the values of equality and access espoused in the mission of the DOE. • Support HB 215 to Help Increase Voter Turnout in Delaware!
HB 215 is likely to enhance voter turnout by leveraging the heightened interest around presidential elections to increase participation in local primaries. By streamlining the election process, the state will experience substantial cost savings. The reduced operational expenses will free up state resources that could be better invested in areas such as education and healthcare. A single primary election day will simplify the voting process, eliminating confusion among voters and fostering a more inclusive voting experience. Importantly, for our overseas service members, it will ensure timely delivery of their ballots without the need for federal intervention. Furthermore, this consolidation of primaries will make the democratic process more accessible for all Delawareans, particularly working families. We believe that our democracy thrives when every citizen's voice is heard. By supporting HB 215, you will help make our elections more efficient, inclusive, and democratic.

  • Investigate Marjorie Taylor Greene
Marjorie Taylor Greene might have just admitted on live television to violating the public trust with highly sensitive information. Just hours after Donald Trump’s indictment for obstructing justice and hoarding classified documents that he shared with guests at Mar-A-Lago, Marjorie Taylor Greene went on FOX News to brag about circumventing the confidentiality of a secure Congressional review of materials. After reading documents in a SCIF – a secured location often used to review highly classified government and military information – Rep. Greene claims she immediately copied down “everything that [she] had just read” to share publicly [1]. If the materials were classified, it could be a violation of the law – and if this is how she handles highly sensitive information reserved for a SCIF, we can’t trust her to continue having access to our nation’s most closely-kept secrets. As a member of Congress, Rep. Greene has a responsibility to use her power – and the privileges of her office – in a way that best serves her constituents. Instead, her public admissions raise serious questions about her approach to our national security – threatening to release top secret information as a tactic for her own political gain and to cast doubt on the legitimate investigation into Donald Trump’s obstruction of justice and mishandling of classified documents. It’s an unethical, irresponsible way to use her office – and a possibly illegal one. If Rep. Greene is this cavalier about her access to sensitive government information, she shouldn’t have this access in the first place.
