When Emma Prusch gifted this land to the people of San Jose in 1962, she entrusted us with preserving a piece of Santa Clara Valley’s farming legacy amid our rapidly urbanizing landscape. Her vision continues to enrich our community in countless ways. This park is far more than just open space - it’s a vital educational hub where urban children discover the wonders of agriculture through hands-on experiences. The park houses San Jose’s largest 4-H barn, providing unique opportunities for city youth to learn farming skills that are increasingly rare in our digital age. Through its community gardens and rare fruit orchards, the park connects diverse groups of residents, fostering cultural exchange and community bonds through shared cultivation of the land. Veggielution Community Farm, operating within the park, plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity by providing fresh produce and educational programs to low-income families. This partnership exemplifies how the park continues to serve its intended purpose of benefiting all San Jose residents, regardless of their background. The park’s programs and facilities offer irreplaceable opportunities for environmental education, agricultural preservation, and community engagement. Rum River Elementary is the only school in our district with this large of an impact to our students. There is one other elementary school where students are in two different middle school attendance boundaries, and it is divided approximately 60% to Oak View Middle School and 40% to Coon Rapids Middle School, far less disjoined than our 92/8 separation.  Moving schools during middle school can have a significant negative impact on a student, often leading to emotional stress, social disruption, potential academic setbacks, and challenges with forming new relationships, as they are at a crucial developmental stage where peer connections are vital and adapting to new environments can be difficult; this can manifest as anxiety, sadness, feelings of isolation, and decreased academic engagement.  This is supported through research and best practice findings by multiple reputable organizations including U.S. Department of Education.  Considering property taxes associated with living in this location, we would hope priority would be given to attending the schools we fund.  We are currently in the process of gathering data from the school district to gain further clarity on the balance of in-district transfers vs out of district open enrollment.  When evaluating all of the information we cannot see where the risks outweigh the benefits of having this very small student population be allowed to permanently attend Oak View Middle School and Andover High School (not through in-district transfer).  

Multiple groups supporting Sen. Cruz’s campaign in Texas have spent nearly $16 million on aggressive ads bashing support for transgender athletes competing in women's sports. It’s overwhelmingly clear that Cruz and his cronies would rather spout blatant lies than talk about the real issues impacting Americans. Lying about trans kids is just the latest tactic in their playbook of distracting voters from the GOP’s dangerous agenda—an agenda that would criminalize essential health care and make communities less safe for our children. Contrary to what these sham ads would have you believe, the reality is that gender-affirming care is backed as medically necessary by leading health groups like the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  We need to elect leaders who value honesty, transparency, and the truth. The health of our kids and our entire democracy is at stake. Republicans must stop running ads with blatant lies. The 1927  landmarked Montclair Firehouse was once one of the shining jewels of Oakland.  Constructed from steel-reinforced concrete, the building itself is in good condition.  The City's application of a gunite material over the copper roof in the 1960's perfectly protected the interior. Two seismic studies have made very cost-effective recommendations for retro-fitting the building.  The MFAC Nonprofit has obtained current estimates for renovating the building, with all required City permits, and has submitted those, along with a complete Business Plan and Proposed Lease, to the City Real Estate Department, the Community and Economic Development Committee of the City Council, and Councilwoman Ramachandran with no response in 15 months. It is time to make The Montclair Firehouse Arts Center happen in this abandoned building.  Public buildings should be used by the public.  This one has been neglected and abandoned for 35 years by the City of Oakland.  Such waste is shameful.  The MFAC is a community-based citizen group with a proven track record of renovating an abandoned public building in Piedmont into The Piedmont Center For The Arts.  Please help them give this same gift to our Montclair community, at no expense to the City.  A beautiful Arts Center in a building the City has simply abandoned.

This is more than just a lack of endorsement for VP Harris. This is about integrity, honesty and transparency with the American public. If the LA Times and The Washington Post had said in advance, a year ago, they would not endorse in the race, that would be cause for some disappointment. But that's not the case whatsoever. These articles came out within days of one another, with the same story. Is it a coincidence that billionaires are holding back key endorsements this close to the nation's Election Day on November 5? Especially after news dropped earlier this week that another influential billionaire, Twitter/X owner Elon Musk, was planning to hand out out huge payments in battleground states as part of a get-out-the-vote drive?  What is certain to us, is that these reports not only undermine the writers and staff who came together and took time to write these endorsements of Harris, but also have the potential to undermine and increase voter uncertainty in our democracy and in our publications. In a heightened time of misinformation and disinformation, this cannot be acceptable from publications that millions of people read and trust.  The latest reports have Harris and Trump neck-and-neck in key states across the country. What if the information from the endorsement of both of these publications signals to millions of readers that Harris is of the same standards as Donald Trump? Or even worse, encourages them not to vote at all if the outcome will be the same?   Sign the petition to call out this injustice for what it is and share with at least three friends. People across the country have already began to vote early, and we have less than a week and a half before November 5. There is still time to course correct.

The concept of a ban on fracking in Pennsylvania has been getting a lot of attention in recent weeks. But banning fracking in a place where it has been happening for 20 years is not the same thing as banning it where it has never happened. What must happen here and what will happen is a phase out of fracking. How rapid the phase out is will determine how smoothly the public, workers, and entire communities will be able to make the transition. We're calling on Governor Shapiro and our state legislators to start the rapid phase out now and urging them to take the steps we have listed.

This cause is essential because farmworkers are the backbone of the agricultural sector, directly contributing to food security and economic stability in the U.S. They labor in physically demanding and often dangerous environments, facing risks such as pesticide exposure, extreme heat, respiratory issues, and repetitive injuries. Despite their critical role, these workers are often excluded from healthcare benefits, which can have severe repercussions both for their health and for the communities they support​. Farmworkers, especially those on H-2A visas, face substantial barriers to accessing healthcare. These include limited insurance coverage, language barriers, and fears of immigration-related repercussions, often forcing them to seek care only in emergency situations. This lack of regular healthcare not only worsens their health outcomes but also strains local healthcare systems due to higher emergency room usage. Improving healthcare access for farmworkers is therefore a matter of social justice, public health, and economic prudence​. Expanding healthcare access for farmworkers not only benefits them personally but also supports healthier communities, more resilient healthcare systems, and a more stable food supply. Without this support, these workers’ health deteriorates, which could lead to labor shortages and higher costs in the agricultural sector, impacting food availability and prices across the country.

This matter AFFECTS EVERYONE! People should join in on my campaign for change because this could help them live longer, healthier and happier lives. We could also be a little more carefree by potentially starting to have more trust in our government and other organizations that we are supposed to count on to protect us, when we are unable to protect ourselves.
