My children have grown up in Europe as bicultural bilinguals; America is their "other" home. They are 49er fans, prefer reading in English and are indistinguishable from US-based Americans their own age. But their children - my grandchildren - will be denied citizenship unless my kids spend 5 continuous years in the US, which may or may not suit their career plans. This is unfair.

As our economy continues to tank, more and more people are finding themselves without shelter and food security. At the same time businesses and municipalities are creating and building obstacles and edifice-additions that discourage and prevent people desperate for shelter and rest from using those spaces.

My nephew Gary Crocker is a blind vendor for a roadside rest area. His sight is a challenge even under the best conditions. The purpose of AB 1353 is to amend the California Streets and Highways Code eliminating the current discriminatory practices by the California Department of Transportation on the blind Safety Roadside Rest Area vendors of the Business Enterprises Program. Currently blind SRRA vendors participating in the BEP are being discriminated against regarding the operational expenses of the BEP vending facilities at the state's safety roadside rest areas. Supporting AB 1353 will correct this injustice that has been allowed in burdening hard working blind individuals participating in this state program for the blind.

My wife and I took Keyla into our family in 2005, at the request of her family. In 2011, we had to leave Matamoros for the narco-war. Despite assurances by our federal government that we could apply for humanitarian parole for Keyla, she was taken into the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement. In its custody she has been moved from Texas to Illinois to Pennsylvania and now to California. Her condition has significantly deteriorated since her seizure by our federal government.

Coming soon to Florida: A scared and lonely child denied an adoptive home, some loving couple denied their dream of starting a family -- all in the name of Christianity. Under a bill that just passed the state house, state-funded adoption agencies will be able to deny child placement to single mothers, gay and lesbian couples, or any other family which the agency objects to on the basis of "religious or moral conviction." A few right-wing Christians are calling this "the official beginning of the battle for religious liberty and religious freedom in the state of Florida." But no one who follows Jesus should want to keep children in need away from loving families.

Workers in the United States and around the world unite to renew the 1951 petition "We Charge Genocide" submitted to the General Assembly of the United Nations by the Civil Rights Congress and others. The 1951 petition "We Charge Genocide" opposed the genocidal violence towards African-Americans in the United States at that time. This renewal opposes the contemporary genocidal violence towards African-Americans in the United States and seeks relief from the United Nations. The international legal definition of the crime of genocide is found in Articles II and III of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide. Article II describes two elements of the crime of genocide: 1) the mental element, meaning the "intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such", and 2) the physical element which includes five acts described in sections a, b, c, d and e. A crime must include both elements to be called "genocide." Article III described five punishable forms of the crime of genocide: genocide; conspiracy, incitement, attempt and complicity. The recent police murders of African-Americans in the USA meet the requirements of the legal definition of genocide. We demand that the genocidal violence against African-Americans in the United States end immediately. The police murders of African-Americans in the United States must cease immediately.

My husband is incarcerated at the Michael Unit in Tennessee Colony Texas Region ll. Employees are representatives of the TDCJ and are expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct while on-duty or off-duty, including adherence to the rules of conduct described in the Listing of Employee General Rules of Conduct and Disciplinary Violations. The Warden's and officers are treating family members and friends of offenders inappropriately and nothing is being done. This needs to stop.

We must protect all people in North Dakota and have people recognize that we are all human no matter who we love.

I believe all people deserve the same rights independent of whom they love or what gender they present as.

Drones open the door to an unparalleled invasion of everyone’s privacy, and create a great potential of false identification. Historically drones are used to commit to acts of war. We are a free people, with rights given to us by birth. We deserve and require that those rights be recognized. We will not be spied on by police drones. We have the right to privacy!
