This is your moment of opportunity to defend the Voting Rights of All Americans - the Voting Rights Act is one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation Congress has ever passed, but last year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of it. Right now, Members of Congress can restore those protections by passing this important bill and defend our voting rights. U.S. Rep. Phil Roe should be supporting this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill to protect all Americans.”

The great news is that Commonwealth Court Judge Bernard McGinley said the Pennsylvania Voter ID bill is unconstitutional. He ruled that the law is "invalid and unconstitutional on its face as the provision and issuance of compliant identification does not comport with liberal access and unreasonably burdens the right to vote. “Voting laws are designed to assure a free and fair election; the Voter ID Law does not further this goal.” Now the bad news. It is still possible for the law to be appealed. PA Gov. Tom Corbett is considering an appeal to PA's Supreme Court. If he does appeal, the Voter ID law may be reinstated. Tell Governor Corbett that we agree with Judge McGinley. Voter ID is “invalid and unconstitutional on its face.” Do not appeal Voter ID to the Supreme Court.

The election of representatives through fair, open voting of all citizens is our nations only sacred act. Any impediments to this activity should actually be considered treasonous.

Last year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), and the NC legislature was quick to pass a bill that makes voting virtually impossible for many North Carolinians. But a new bill in Congress can fix the VRA, and restore these protections not only in NC but also across the country.

Last year the Supreme Court weakened one of the most critical Civil Rights Legislation the Voting Rights Act. In 2014 our voting rights are still in danger and we need the Voting Rights Act to be stronger-not weaker then ever. Now is the time for Rep Tonko to take a stand and fight for a strong bill by becoming a co-sponsor of the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014.

I have met people who were part of Freedom Summer in the 60's and I know we all have to keep working to ensure laws and practices that protect every American citizen's right to vote.

As a Civics teacher and historian I know the importance of the Voting Rights Act, and I understand the damage caused by last year's Supreme Court decision. All representatives in Congress on both sides of the aisle should support the bill to restore protections.

The rights of voters are a key element in making sure our opinions, and issues, heard by the our government.
