We can't afford to go backwards on this issue- it would be bad politics and a moral issue.

Last year, the Supreme Court struck down vital provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. After taking a trip to Alabama to the scene of many of the protests that sparked the Act's passage, I was convinced that the Act needs to be restored to full strength in order to protect citizen's rights not just in the South but throughout the country if we are to be a nation proud of our liberties. Right now Congress can restore those provisions through the Voting Rights Amendment Act. Rep. Perry can support this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill.

The Act was weakened last year by a Supreme Court decision which now need to be restored and strengthened without delay. Lets show the congressmen there is great support for this!!

The Voting Rights Act is one of the core pieces of civil rights legislation, something for Congress and the American people to be proud of. Now is the time to counteract the Supreme Court's decision of last year which weakened critical provisions of the act and imperils the ability of citizens to participate in our democracy. Representative McGovern, please fight to strengthen and pass this important bill to protect our hard-won rights.

I am supporting the revision of the Voting Rights Act because the powers that be are trying to reverse our progress in this country. For example, in Texas, they've tried to redistrict and set more restrictive voter I.D. laws to make sure the minorities and opposing party don't have a fighting chance in any election. The Republicans want to make sure that the power stays in the hands of the rich, white few males who only support agendas that fill their own pockets. We must stand against them and regain the rights for all to vote. We cannot let them move our progress backwards anymore. We must not let them tear down the Voting Rights Act anymore! It needs to be strengthened if we are to continue to move forward as a country.

I'm not willing to let the government send me backwards in time by stripping me of my right to vote. My ancestors fought hard for the freedoms that my family and I enjoy. I grew up believing in my constitution and I will fight for my constitutional rights!
