Last year the Supreme Court weakened one of the most critical Civil Rights Legislation the Voting Rights Act. In 2014 our voting rights are still in danger and we need the Voting Rights Act to be stronger-not weaker then ever. Now is the time for Rep Tonko to take a stand and fight for a strong bill by becoming a co-sponsor of the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014.

I have met people who were part of Freedom Summer in the 60's and I know we all have to keep working to ensure laws and practices that protect every American citizen's right to vote.

As a Civics teacher and historian I know the importance of the Voting Rights Act, and I understand the damage caused by last year's Supreme Court decision. All representatives in Congress on both sides of the aisle should support the bill to restore protections.

The rights of voters are a key element in making sure our opinions, and issues, heard by the our government.

Protecting and improving voters' rights is important to all Americans. A Justice Department Study found only 40 instances of voter fraud out of 197 million votes cast, showing voter fraud IS NOT an issue in America, but protecting the rights of all Americans to be able to cast their votes legally, fairly, and unobstructed, must be upheld.
