• Trader Joe's discriminates against same-sex couples
I miss Trader Joe's. They've got great prices for great food, but what they don't have is health benefits for employees' domestic partners or other "soft" benefits such as bereavement leave. Shocked? Me, too. I believe that all families should be treated equally.  Check it out: http://www.hrc.org/apps/buyersguide/profile.php?orgid=13517#.UEv5MIl5mc0   Anti civil-rights sites such as lifesitenews even tout Trader Joe's as a place for "pro-family" shoppers. Not sure which families they mean, as they seem to be against some families I care about! http://www.lifesitenews.com/mobile/blog/the-best-and-worst-places-to-shop-in-2012-if-youre-pro-family  I'm on a budget and I have three small kids and work full time. I miss Trader Joe's. I plan to be missing it until they bring their civil rights into the 21st century. Sign below to let Dan Bane, the CEO of Trader Joe's, know that you care enough about supporting the human rights of their same-sex employees that you're pledging to skip shopping in their stores November 1-15, 2012 (but feel free to join me and stop now, if you're as shocked as I am.)

  • Defend religious freedom
The Republican party has captured the myth laden ideas of "freedom" and "religion" and uses them, with great success, as propaganda to further their corporate agenda. They imply that it is patriotic, and in the service of freedom, to have a closer union of church and state. The founders would be appalled; they recognized that the separation of church and state was necessary for religious freedom. The radical union of church and state proposed by the religious right is a threat to both religion and to freedom.

  • Petition to Decriminalize Maijuana
Since the mid-1930's possession or growth of marijuana has been a federal crime. It was born out of racism since, at the time, it's use was mainly among blacks. Over the years, various methods have been used by the federal government to enforce this "crime." With the advent on the "War on Drugs," it has truly become a war. People including women and children are being murdered daily and dumped in the streets of the Mexican border towns. Billions of taxpayer dollars have been used to enforce the drug wars with no tangible success. And despite the fact that at least ten states have legalized marijuana for various uses, the federal government continues to prosecute those caught with even small amounts of the substance. This has made the U.S. the nation with the highest number of prisoners incarcerated of any country in the world for drug offences.

  • Investigation of the death of my son
I probably will not listened, but I have been affected emocionally for the death of my son. He was kill by a Target truck on 10-29-11, he was only 22 years old. The police report was done based on the testimony of the truck driver, and eventhough that the Lawyers that I have asked for help have seen that the Police Report is not not consistenly and the pictures taken from the accident doen not much the graphic in that report, they do not want to hire an expert to do the reconstruction, neither to inspect the trucks and the data recorded from the black boxes. If your office have the time for a mother that is devastated for her lost, please reply my e-mail. With depply appreciation, Miriam Monjaraz

  • Demand a stop to Voter Suppression
We are all personally affected by a political party whose goal is to prevent people from voting. Voting is the right of every American citizen of age. That's why it's called a "democracy."

  • Secretary Husted: Reinstate board of election members
Secretary of State Husted fired Thomas Ritchie, Sr. and Dennis Lieberman for not rescinding their votes to add weekend voting hours. But he said he found no pleasure in doing so. Now, a federal judge has upheld their votes and Secretary Husted has agreed not to challenge that decision. Secretary Husted should reinstate them, so they can continue their service to Ohio.

  • Preserve voting rights in Arkansas
Some elected Arkansas officials wish to introduce legislation requiring voters to present certain official forms of identification, which many senior and economically-challenged citizens do not possess. This effort is similar to that recently enacted in Pennsylvania (and found unconstitutional in our neighboring Texas). Our legislature should not impose additional requirements on Arkansans exercising their constitutional right to vote.

  • Rep. Bryan King attempts voter suppression
Arkansas State Representative Bryan King is leading the charge to make an end run around the Voting Rights Act. I have never heard of a single case of voter fraud in the state of Arkansas. And I have never had to show an ID to vote. I know my poll workers—they're my neighbors and friends, and they know me. So why try to create these laws now? Rep. King wants to bring polarizing partisan politics to Arkansas. He wants to attack the Democratic base here in our state to further his party's oppressive attack on the middle class and poor. That isn't Arkansas. Let's tell Rep. King, "Not in our state!"
