This week the Southern Poverty Law Center revealed that Steve Smith, a longtime racist activist with a history of violence and top-level ties to numerous white nationalist hate groups, was elected to the Luzerne County (PA) Republican Committee. To date, the GOP has not condemned his views or tried to distance itself from him in any way. Recruited into the neo-Nazi movement while he was stationed at Fort Bragg in the 1990s, Smith, of Pittston, Penn., has been active in an extraordinary array of white nationalist, skinhead, and neo-Nazi groups, including American Third Position, Keystone United(formerly Keystone State Skinheads), and the Council of Conservative Citizens. He is a former Aryan Nations member and former leader of the Philadelphia chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of White People. While the GOP may not be able to legally remove him, if they don't support his racist views, they should tell the world that they find his views repugnant.

Trayvon Martin only had one chance and George Zimmerman took that away from him and his family. Now George Zimmerman and his attorney believes it's okay to mislead the court system so he can enjoy his freedom while the Martin family seeks justice.

In 2000 Florida's Republican governor and secretary of state quietly instituted a voter purge that removed over 13,000 eligible voters from the rolls. These were mostly young and minority voters who usually voted Democratic. Bush won the state, and the presidency, with a little over 500 votes. Had these eligible voters not been prevented from voting, Gore would have won and we would probably have not lost thousands in a useless war.

This wastes time and money, ties up energy for change, and is illegal. We're calling on the NYPD to to cease and desist this practice immediately!

Michigan’s election laws have taken major strides forward in recent years—but extreme lawmakers are now trying to wipe out that progress. Three bills in the Michigan Legislature— SB 751, SB 754 and SB 803—would dramatically limit the ability of legitimate voters to make their political voices heard voters in Michigan elections. All of these bills have one goal: making it more difficult for Michiganders, particularly the working poor, the elderly, students and people of color, to participate in our democratic process. These bills would regulate groups that register voters, impose stricter photo ID requirements for voters and add a citizenship check-off box to ballot applications. Though lawmakers are using the false claim that voter fraud is the reason these measures are needed, a recent letter from the Michigan Secretary of State Bureau of Elections shows this is not the case and that clerical errors are the reason for supposed instances of voter fraud. The bottom line is these extreme lawmakers are trying to consolidate their political power at the expense of the rights of Michigan voters. This is wrong and we need to stop it.
