• End "too big to jail"
When Credit Suisse pleaded guilty to criminal charges last May, many called it the end of "too big to jail" for Big Banks. But guess what: No bank executives actually went to jail. Instead, they paid a fine – $2.6 billion – to settle the charges. That may sound like a lot to you and me, but to a major financial institution, that's a cost of doing business. And it’s just one in a series of settlements by big banks after wrongdoing when none of the executives went to jail. That isn’t justice. It’s time we demand equal enforcement of the law. If we want big banks to respect the law, they should be held accountable when they break it. We’re calling on the Department of Justice to end the "too big to jail" scheme the big banks enjoy today. After all, just because you're the banker doesn't mean you should get out of jail free. Add your name and help us stand up to big bank abuses!

  • Keep Chocolate Safe
Eating too much chocolate: common. Overexposure to heavy metals shouldn't be. Yet, a recent study conducted by the environmental group As You Sow found dangerous levels of heavy metals in over 60% of the common chocolate products tested from brands including Sees, Mars, Hershey’s, Lindt, Godiva, Whole Foods, and others [1]. All these contained unsafe levels of lead and/or cadmium in just one serving. Too much lead or cadmium can cause all kinds of health problems, including lowering children’s IQs, causing kidney damage, and bone loss. So, these heavy metals have no place in our treats. Chocolate should be decadent, not dangerous. These companies must keep toxic heavy metals out of their products. • "Art Institutes sued for $11 BILLION, what about the students and families affected?
Clear the parents, and the students who attended the Art Institutes from 2003-2011, from their loan debts. These people are innocent to the fact that their money, intended for education, had been used to commit fraud.

  • FIN Committee: Please hold a hearing and pass SB737's 36% interest rate cap on Payday loans.
Too many hardworking Hawaii families are stuck in the debt cycle of Payday loans. Eighteen states have already capped the interest rate on these loans at 36% or less or made them illegal altogether. Our families deserve protections from the Payday industry, too.

  • Tell President Obama: Require Federal Contractors to Disclose their Political Spending
It's no surprise that in politics the biggest corporate campaign spenders receive the most undeserved tax breaks and special favors. Did you know they often also receive billions of dollars in federal government contracts? And yet, they're not required to disclose their campaign spending on the very politicians who dole out those contracts. The good news is that although Congress is unlikely to act, right now President Obama can use an executive order to require federal contractors to disclose their political spending. Tell President Obama to take this obvious step and at least end Dark Money from taxpayer-funded contractors now!

  • Governor Tom Wolf: The public deserves a voice on fracking
For years, citizens affected by fracking, and environmental and public health groups have been pleading to state environmental officials to have a seat at the table when it comes to regulating this harmful activity. And when Governor Wolf gave Pennsylvanians a seat at the table, the fracking industry claimed the public “has no place” in discussions about regulating drilling in Pennsylvania. [1] Gov. Wolf made the right move. But with the gas drilling industry and their allies in Harrisburg pushing back, we need to make sure he doesn’t backpedal and give in to a very powerful industry. If anyone should have their voices heard, it’s the people who suffer the devastating effects of living near oil and gas wells. Tell Gov. Wolf that the people of Pennsylvania deserve a strong voice in how the oil and gas industry operates in Pennsylvania.” [1] “Natural gas industry criticizes Pennsylvania DEP,” Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, March 21, 2015

  • Say “Thank You” to the champions of the 2015 California DISCLOSE Act
AB 700, the Gomez-Levine California DISCLOSE Act, will stop funders from deceiving voters about who pays for ballot measure ads by requiring ads to clearly reveal their top three funders. Funders must be shown in a big contrasting font on a black background for five seconds. The actual contributors must be listed — none of the usual shell games. Just the truth. That's why a remarkable 18 newspaper editorial boards called for passing the 2014 California DISCLOSE Act, more than 400 organizations and leaders endorsed it, and more than 80,000 Californians signed petitions for it. Please thank Assemblymembers Jimmy Gomez (D-Northeast Los Angeles) and Marc Levine (D- San Rafael) for their leadership in the fight against Dark Money in political ads and tell them you're with them and the California Clean Money Campaign!

  • Require diminished value be included in auto claims
My vehicle was severely damaged in an accident at no fault of my own. While the insurance company reimbursed for the costs to repair it, the value of the vehicle dropped by nearly $3,000 since it will be noted on Carfax reports, and the insurance will not cover it.
