  • Made in America
All souvenirs in National Parks (and State Parks) need to be made in America. This is not just about jobs but also about taking pride in representing our country's beauty, heritage and craftsmanship.

  • Foreclosure Avoidence
On 60 Minutes (Dec 18) thousands of homes are being abandoned by owners who can no longer afford the mortgage payments. The bank takes possession and let the houses rot to the point they are no longer marketable. This is due to: 1. banks will not keep the property in in marketable condition (it costs money to do that) and 2. Scavengers break into the abandoned homes and take anything of value including copper wiring, plumbing fixtures, appliances, cabinetry, even aluminum siding. It seems to me that the banks, rather than causing folks to abandon their homes due to high mortgage rates, should refinance at the current market value to lower the payments so the folks can stay in their homes. This results in banks taking a lost in the equity, but when a home is abandoned and not cared for, the banks loses 100% of their loaned amount instead of 50 %. Homes in Ohio are being demolished, and banks are losing the entire cost. It was banks that caused the problem in the first place - even after TARP and another 7.7 trillion dollars loaned out to Wall Street/Banks at 0.01% interest.

  • Federal Decriminalization of Medical Marijuana
CA legalized medical marijuana and put hundreds of people to work, as well as raising huge revenues to address our multi-billion budget shortfall. Federal agents swooped down and raided dispensaries recently -- leaving patients stranded without much-needed relief from a long list of problems. President Obama had indicated he would have the Feds leave States alone on this issue.

  • Mandate Employers To Disclose Reasons For Disqualified Job Applicants
Although there is legislation pending to forbid employment agencies or employer from listing qualifications that include "currently employed" as a criteria for hiring, unemployment status is still an unprotected class under employment discrimination laws. Furthermore, employers are not required to disclose the reasons why a job applicant may be disqualified or rejected from consideration beyond the standardized form letter that usually states, "other applicants more qualified", "more closely fit our needs", "we were impressed by your work experience, however..." , in addition they do not provide results of pre-assessment or pre-questionnaires taken in the process of applying for employment, and many times lack a contact name, phone number or reply e-mail address to a recruiter or staff dept. if an applicant wishes to inquire or challenge the disqualification or rejection notification. We need legislators to force employers to provide these reasons in order for potential employees to have an opportunity to have knowledge on how they may need to improve themselves for the next opportunity and for employers to be more considerate of the time consumed by the applicant, and adopt a fairness policy applicable to the selection process. This mandate will help relieve the suspicion that an applicant is not being considered due to age, gender, race , disability ,etc. and/or other employment discrimination. If an employer doesn't agree to provide this information then they should be subject to punitive laws that are applicable to employment discrimination. Too many unemployed people are not getting a fair shake or reason and it's time they did.

  • Pass the Stock Act!
The Stock Act has been milling around the U.S. Legislature for years collecting dust while waiting for members of Congress to sponsor and promote its passage. The Act is designed to prohibit any member of Congress from investing or divesting in stock based on inside information obtained while working on a committee, having attended other important decision-making meetings, etc. It is illegal for anyone else to buy or sell stock based on inside information, and it should be for Congress as well.

  • Governor McDonnell, Take a Balanced Approach to Fixing Virginia's Budget!
The Governor has slashed funding for schools, roads, healthcare, and first responders, and with another billion dollar shortfall he may try again. However, there is a better way: a balanced approach that includes bringing in new revenue by closing ineffective or inefficient loopholes will save jobs and protect our economy. We're calling on the Governor to take a balanced approach to this shortfall!

  • Create Jobs
Stop paying your bills online. Go back to mailing in payments. Consequently both big Banks and the US Post Office will have more work! Your payment and identity will be more secure. I created this petition to rally the working-middle class to support itself. A kind of "coporate disobedience" where the simple act of mailing a letter declares we stand our ground together.
