• Mortgage Companies Need to Help Americans
    The banks and mortgage companies were bailed out. Now, they are not helping regular Americans who need a break. This petition is calling on banks and mortgage companies to begin in earnest to help the millions of Americans who are underwater in their mortgages, to readjust or refinance home mortgages.

  • Government Lawmakers Don't Pay?
    Those dealing with our deficit, Social Security, and ways to reduce taxes are the same people (Senate) receive a life time retirement no matter how many terms they serve. Also, there are groups that do not have to pay into Social Security. These are the individuals who vote on how much they will receive for a raise and write a law that makes it okay for them to invest with prior stock market info. which is illegal for the American citizen. Campaign money had led to more corruption in government than ever. Supreme Court should change decision and have all campaign money go into one fund that is divided up equally.

  • Lower statute of limitations for suing on old debt
    After a terrifying few years of layoffs and foreclosures, many companies are now coming after those who have owed them money from several years ago. Just as people are getting back on their feet and employed, they are hit with their old debt and knocked back down again. We need to be allowed to get back on our feet. The banks have already gotten their money in the form of federal bailouts. It's time they leave us alone to rebuild our economy.

  • Allow the Unemployed Penalty-Free Access to Their Retirement Accounts
    I've been unemployed for over two years and had to make the painful decision to take regular distributions from my IRA in order to pay my mortgage, utilities and creditors. This was unavoidable and, I believe, an honorable, responsible action on my part. However the IRS has penalized me 10% on every distribution...because unemployment is not one of the exceptions allowed under the law.

  • Student loan forgiveness
    If the President and Congress really wanted to jumpstart our economy they would pass legislation to partially / fully forgive any/all outstanding college loans. With additional spendable income many of these college grads would either spend more on durable goods or save it for down payments on homes, cars or other large ticket items.

    Lowering the current deficite appears to be the focus of the current Congress and Senate. They are hell bent on cutting the programs that assist many during this economical downfall. If they are as serious as they claim they are they should start with their salary's. If they expect us all to make concessions then they should lead by example and start with their salary.
