Bill Moyers: Please interview Diane RavitchPublic education in America is in turmoil, and the issues are far from simple. Time and again we hear opinions from one side of the debate, and rarely do we hear an alternate view. Diane Ravitch brings clarity and insight, yet she is rarely invited to speak on television.9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Carrie

Republicans can learn to say YES!Maybe a YES will be heard from the Republicans if we get enough signatures. President Obama will need some yes responses next term. After all he did all the work during his first term and now it's time for the Republicans to stop sitting in their corner of the House of Representative and saying, "NO, NO, NO,"3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by JJ KREDLOW

Tell Governor Branstad to stop blaming teachersOur education system in Iowa is perhaps our greatest strength, and much of it comes from teachers from K-12 and in higher education. They are among the best in the country. I know, because I am a proud college professor, who teaches online for nearly every community college in Iowa. Every semester, my classes are full, and it's because I work hard to present and teach the most robust, learning friendly courses possible. And I mean I work hard and I work for the benefit of my students to be their solution to receiving a meaningful education. As a result, they do, and when they go to work in Iowa, they are armed with knowledge and skills I have helped them attain to better our fine state. Teachers are not the problem; they are the solution!1,294 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Nancy Fandel-MacQueen

Education for a Safer CountryEvery year our schools have to endure cut backs like physical education, music, art, and foreign languages. My children's schools no longer require Physical Education throughout their school years where PE was required through every year that I went to school, from kindergarten to my senior year in high school. Tell the President that our country would be far safer with educated children than with massive amounts of weapons and deploying our soldiers to kill other people.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lynnette Alexander

Student Loan forgiveness in bankruptcyIn Bankruptcy, all debts are forgiven, for individuals and corporations, if one meets the criteria. Not student loans however. This is recent, as congress passed punitive legislation in the 1990's. Prior to this, student loans were forgiven during bankruptcy. Particularly in this unforgiving hiring climate, students have a lifelong debt to repay, regardless of life conditions.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Joan van Velsor

Parking for NYC TeachersNYC Teachers have been denied the number of parking permits needed to accomodate all staff staff members who drive in (many from long distances) to do a thankless job. Under the new regime created by Mayor Bloomeburg, schools all over the city have been allocated a mere ten parking permits per school building. This has caused much trouble and has put a strain on many a teacher's budget (due to tickets and garage fees). We need to stand behind our teachers and accommodate all of those, ( who commute, what at times seems like endless hours) and who willingly come in early(without compensation) to prepare to help our children succeed. only to arrive at their school sites and be forced to drive around (sometimes in unsafe neighborhoods) in circles looking for parking instead of getting into school building early as intended and using this donated time to make certain the day's lessons are appropriate for all students or modify if not. I believe that teachers (in spite of all the negative perception) play a huge role in nurturing and molding future citizens. Teachers face countless of barriers in this endeavor and parking shouldn't be yet another distraction to this end. Please support our teachers and help alleviate this un necessary distraction.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Brenda Cartagena

Alaska: Every child left behind?Folks in Alaska are furious upon learning that we hold the dubious honor of making the deepest education cuts of any state in the country. Alaska will spend $533 less per student this year, meaning fewer services and programs for students and making the education gap worse.1,223 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Deirdre
