  • Free College in California
I want to create a ballot initiative that guarantees eligible California residents a free UC or CSU education. I read the total cost of educating all CA children would cost only 3 billion a year.

  • Student Loan Forgiveness Act
If Congress doesn't pass the "student loan" act that is before it, loan interest payments will be increased by July 1, 2012. There are many people still unemployed, going to school is the only way many of us will be afforded new occupations. On-the-job training is a thing of the past, unless you are fresh out of high school, even so employers are looking for employees who are proficient in their working skills. Make your voice count now and for those who will be coming along in the future!

  • Advance to K-Associates
By 1900 educators argued that the post-literacy schooling of the masses at the secondary and higher levels, would improve citizenship, develop higher-order traits, and produce the managerial and professional leadership needed for rapid economic modernization. The commitment to expanded education set the U.S. apart from Europe for much of the 20th century. This phenomenon was uniquely American; no other nation attempted such widespread coverage. We are now in the new millennium and it is again time to advance education of the masses to higher levels. Americans need to be competitive in the global market place. High school students need an incentive to graduate. Immigrants need a reward for their sworn citizenship. The United States needs every resource developed to its fullest potential. We, as Americans, face a wide and varied set of problems in this day and age. We have proven in the past that we can do anything and we can fix anything. We can do this together. We have the knowledge and the tools to solve our current problems. This monetary investment, for a better tomorrow, will yield greater results than any wall street bailout, peace enforcement, or extended war. We need more citizens working on these national and global issues. It is time to hand out the essential tools needed for building a competitive nation. It is time to pass down the knowledge and sound inventiveness to the next generation. To ensure we are successful as a nation we need to do things the American way by investing in our children, our citizens, and our future. We need to Advance to K - Associates Degree . We need to demand it of our government.

Petition: To lay the framework for a sustainable education system, that is solvent, productive, and state of the art in every regard. By signing this petition, you can give future generations a chance at affordable, attainable, excellent education, while reducing the costs for you.

  • Private School Loan Reform
Private student loan lenders are not subject to any federal student loan guidelines and therefore impose variable interest rates, stiff late fees, unreasonable repayment schedules; refuse in-school deferments and forbearance for any reason, including unemployment, and they employ aggressive collection tactics. Further, private student loans cannot be consolidated leaving students with multiple, high interest payments that eat up the bulk of their take home salaries. These circumstances prohibit most students from becoming contributing members of the economy because they struggle to support daily living needs. Most students simply have no expendable income. By binding students financially for upwards of 10 years in a life of debt, wealthy lenders and investors are able effectively marginalize an entire segment of the population, a measure that further erodes the economy while they preserve their elite status without effort. Most importantly, this disparity ultimately poses a national security risk as Europe and Asia overtake the United States in science and technology advancements while higher education falls further out-of-reach for most students.

  • student loan forgiveness petition
dear mr. president: my name is sandra saucedo, i would like to please ask you to push for the loan forgiveness petition . particularly for women that stayed home like me. for i stayed home in order to raise a family, yet still continued to take one class at a time in order to achieve my goal of receiving a degree. however, taking one class a semester took me decades because i dedicated my life to care for my boys and family. now that my boys are older i decided to go back to school full time and get a loan. i am 47 years old and even though i had always worked in and outside my home, i have no retirement plan (because i had always worked part time in order to have time to care for my children) nor a health plan. it is time women that stayed home and contribute to our community, for i had always worked in the pta's of schools, i never missed a field trip and always advocated for children whose parents worked and could not be at school to speak on behalf of their children, should be rewarded and not penalized for staying home while working part time and building a better future for our children that will be an asset to society. staying home also allowed me to made sure my boys learned about art, music and sciences. reasons why my older son was at the age of 12 a youth ambassador in the people to people program promoting peace in the world. my second child was a tutor and all around athlete, and my youngest son is the captain of his soccer team at school and takes university classes in the summer. as i am about to enter my 50s and most of my life has been devoted to my children and family, i continue to go to school and have a huge debt due to my studies that i do not know if i will be able to pay it off and be able to retire by the time i am 65. please advocate for us, for women are the most precious resource of our humanity and in this 21st century we are still treated as second class citizens, as bell hooks eloquently says not only because we are women, but also because we are people of color. family is an important aspect of my culture because home is where values and self esteem are cultivated in order to keep our children away from the jails that are built faster than schools. warmly, sandra saucedo

  • The College Worker's Bill of Rights
Today's college student-loan debt is like that of Sisyphus and his boulder. Graduates can't advance without relief, and therefore require both no-interest loans and adequate grants to fund the higher education of America's working-class. In America, it is wrong when college is beneficial for the upper-class and burdensome for the working class.
