Save the Habitable Planet: Divest in Dirty Fossil Fuels! Invest in Clean Renewable Energy, Now!My grandchildren, family and friends have suffered from Hurricane Sandy that should be called the "Exxon Mobil Shell, etc. Franken storm"! People in New Orleans, Italy, England, the African Congo, China, and the Philippines, etc. are suffering from huge storms, floods and droughts as a result of Global Warming, caused by carbon emissions from dirty fossil fuel burning. It is pitiable and a huge moral issue faces us: We must protest the burning of dirty energy that will destroy our habitable planet and demand that our government representatives do what is morally correct to sustain life on Earth. There is no debate about it. Time is short. All the signs are upon us. We the people must act now to develop the strong political will to save ourselves and our children from the miseries that will ensue, caused by extreme weather from global warming.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Daniela Gioseffi

Tax Carbon NowAfter experiencing Hurricane Sandy, a record-breaking wild fire season and severe droughts in parts of the midwest, Americans are increasingly aware of the disastrous impacts of global warming. Recent NASA and NOAA reports indicate that atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations which were at 285 parts per million (ppm) or less until 1880 have increased from about 315 ppm in 1960 to present day levels of 390 ppm. According to the Environmental Defense Fund, 77% of Americans say global warming should be a priority for the President and Congress (Solutions, Winter 2013)740 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Helen N. Climate Change - Action NowClimate change. The costs of energy we consume does not properly reflect the costs to our land, water and air. There should be a carbon tax on the sources of energy: coal, oil, gas which damage our enviroment the most.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Peter Allen

Ban plastic bags in CaliforniaWe know the damage plastic bags do, yet we continue to bring our groceries and everything else home in thousands of plastic bags each day. Other states have banned the use of plastic bags in stores and their citizens bring their own bags; It is the responsible thing to do.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Donna Griep

Establish Very Strict restrictions on FrackingTo protect air, and stability of the earth under Colorado. Also protect streams, lakes, wells, aquifers, and underground streams. The amount of clean water used in the process of fracking should have a limit that is reasonable in the light of scare water in Colorado.807 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Pat McVey

Put wolves back on the endangered species listAs a person who loves animals and cares about maintaining the balance of our natural environment, of which wolves are a vital part, I fear that they will be driven to the point of extinction(again.) Many people seem to have nothing but contempt for them and would happily see them wiped out.22 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Carole Ritenour

Obama: Declare a Marine Monument to Protect California from Offshore OilThe northern California coast is one of the most biologically diverse and productive marine ecosystems in the world thanks to protections in place by the National Marine Sanctuary system. However, a broadly supported local effort to expand the Sanctuary boundaries, Representative Lynn Woolsey’s bill (HR 192), has stalled in Congress. Your support is needed today to urge President Barak Obama to declare a protective marine monument in the area proposed for Marine Sanctuary expansion by Woolsey in HR 192. Obama has the power of executive order to grant Californian’s this wonderful gift and provide Rep. Woolsey closure to her campaign to protect California’s Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino coasts from the threats of offshore oil drilling before she retires at the end of this term. The plan to expand the Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries from Marin north through the entire Sonoma Coast to Point Arena in southern Mendocino County has wide support from California elected officials, local governments, the Marin County Board of Supervisors, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, fishing organizations, businesses, chambers of commerce and environmental groups. Expanding the National Marine Sanctuaries would prevent oil drilling and offer other protections to an area that is one of the most biologically productive regions in the entire world. It would ensure that this vital area would be protected so it can continue to provide jobs for the coastal economy, the tourism industry, and the commercial and recreational fishing communities. President Obama has less that a month to act before Rep. Woolsey leaves office! Her replacement, Jared Huffman, is also a strong supporter of HR 192. Obama can follow his predecessors in establishing marine monuments through executive order; in January 2000, President Bill Clinton established the California Coastal National Monument by executive order, protecting all the islets, reefs and rock outcroppings — including the Farallon Islands — along the 840-mile California coast; in 2006, President George Bush, inspired by his wife, Laura, created the Papahanaumokuakea National Marine Monument northwest of Hawaii and created the largest protected area in U.S. waters! Join the Turtle Island Restoration Network in urging President Obama to take swift and decisive action to create a marine monument for the preservation of California’s valuable marine wildlife and the security of this ecosystem that we all depend on.2,193 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Chris Pincetich

Regulate coal ash!My family and friends have suffered from an inordinate amount of asthma attacks, cancer and heart problems due to coal-fired electric power plants and the coal ash that is openly stockpiled next to the power plants. This coal ash from coal-fired power plants continues to pollute Kentuckians and many other Americans living in areas where coal is burned to provide electricity. Coal ash is toxic and should be regulated by the US EPA asap!5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rosanne Fitts Klarer

Climate Change and Alternative EnergyThe inhabitants of earth are experiencing the effects of over using fossil fuels...more frequent storms like Sandy and Katrina;; more excessive forest fires; "dust" storms; receding snowpack and glaciers; forests dying from beetles; rising ocean levels...all of which cost lives and tremendous funds. Alternative energy sources to supplant fossil fuels must be pursused with greater vigor and speed. Our country can be a leader in the effort, but we must start now.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Richard Reilein
