We have allowed other countries lower wages, a lack of workers safety and disregard for the environment to be our Achilles tendon for too long and it's time to real that in and balance the economics of all workers in the world for stability.

In order to stay safe and warm when the I-5 interstate mountain freeway to California is not passable due to snow and ice, semi-truck drivers leave their motors running through out the night in the parking lot beside our local Ashland Oregon Shop 'n Kart just off exit 14. Like many local Ashland residents, My daughter and I live less than a block away, and I regret to report that we can smell diesel fumes and hear their engines rumbling durring these hazardous traveling times. Unfortunately however, the nitrogen oxide (NOx) adsorbers, sulfur dioxide, and sulfur trioxide released when burning diesel gasoline hovers in the air in our neighborhood, due to the weather trapping effect called an inversion layer, which is a common event in Ashland Oregon. We must require resting semi-truck drivers to shut off their engines after 10 minutes.

I'm not smart enough about electric vehicles to write this petition, to 'argue' it. But for obvious reasons it would provide a key tipping point to a renewable energy future if the United States Postal Fleet, all the mail trucks therein, went electric.

These supposed food items are hazardous to nature, to people, to birds & animals, to the environment. This frankenfood needs to be permanently banned from our food supply.

I think it ridiculous that I must sign petitions if I don't want "so and so" removing mountaintops, drilling in the Arctic or if I want protection for a certain species or region... etc. This system is backwards! Oregon is a major producer of the world's seeds for European cabbage, Brussels sprouts, rutabaga and turnips. The introduction of GMO canola would not only threaten the livelihood of these seed farmers but it would also pose serious dangers (such as increased pesticide use & herbicide resistant superweeds) to the environment. GM Canola has been genetically altered to withstand the herbicide Roundup; allowing farmers to spray more herbicide without destroying their crops. The cross-pollination of GM crops with weeds creates superweeds that are also herbicide resistant. The Huffington Post reported that more than two dozen weed species have become "resistant to Roundup's chief ingredient glyphosate, causing farmers to use increasing amounts both of glyphosate and other weed killing chemicals to try to control the so-called "superweeds." The dilemma facing farmers is now driving up the "volume of herbicide needed each year by about 25 percent" And farmers are being forced to expand use of older, more dangerous herbicides in order to deal with the new superweeds. GM Canola has become itself an herbicide resistant weed found growing in California.

Soils are degrading as a result of poor agricltural practices such as overuse, single crop agriculture, and over use of synthetic fertilizers. This will lead to a decrease in agricultural productivity at a time when there is an increase in the world's need for food. I may also lead to problem like the "dust bowl" and increased desertification.

Consumers have the right to know what they eat, and not enough is known about genetically-modified plants and their impact on the human body and on the environment. The number of GMO foods in the U.S. is growing at an alarming pace and we should be able to choose food whose source is known and certified to be organic.

Hemp is an alternative crop that can be farmed with little or no chemicals and is a sustainable natural resource that can replace the harmful processes of deforestation, strip mining, paper pulping and fracking. Its many uses include oil for fuel and plastics, paper, the strongest natural fiber in the world for textiles and building materials, and a nutritious food source. This fast growing crop used to be grown by farmers nationwide, and could resuscitate the depleted earth and the farms of this country.
