  • The End of War-making Is In Sight! Amend Our Constitution!
War-making is obsolete. In today’s nuclear age it is also suicidal. The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom is currently campaigning for a Congressional resolution to bring a version of Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution as an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Written by U.S. occupation forces in1946 Article 9 declares that Japan will never again make war. Japan has not made war in 66 years while growing to become an economic giant on the world stage. Not one soldier or civilian lost in combat. Not one war declared in that time. This is a legacy and an example for the world to follow. With Article 9 in our constitution, we and Japan can form a coalition to support the United Nations in abolishing war-making as a political and economic tool.

  • The Inhumane Treatment Of The Rohingya People By The Myanmar Government
The Rohingyas are being denied statehood by their own government. They are being forced to move out of their homeland. The Myanmar Government does not recognize them as citizens of Myanmar. The Rohingyas have been living in West Myanmar for hundreds of years. They are being discriminated against because of their ethnicity and religion. I’m not a Rohingya. I’m doing this totally tor humanitarian reason. I became aware of the plight of the Rohingya during my stay in Bangkok Thailand in 2009 while I was there on a graduate study program in International Relations. Meeting some of the refugees from Myanmar helped me learn of their daily struggle. The academic discussions about the subject showed me the intensity of the humanitarian disaster. Now that the political and economic situation in Myanmar is improving, it is time for the Myanmar Government to start working on solving the problems of all the suffering minorities of Myanmar including the Rohingya. I call on the President of the USA Barack Obama, and the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to take advantage of this opportunity in order to end the persecution of all minorities In Myanmar.

  • Tell Congress: End subsidies to US rice farmers now
In 2010, a catastrophic earthquake devastated Haiti, killing hundreds of thousands of people, and displacing more than 2 million others. Two years after the devastating earthquake, Haiti is still struggling to rebuild. Right now, Congress is debating the 2012 Farm Bill. Continuation of subsidies to US farmers, including US rice farmers, is one key item on the agenda. Ending these subsidies would save US taxpayers billions of dollars, and would be an important first step towards sustainable economic development in Haiti. The Senate has already passed a Farm Bill that eliminates these subsidies and now the debate has moved on to the House of Representatives. Ending these unfair subsidies now is an opportunity to eliminate a policy that has undercut Haitian rice farmers for decades. This would be an important first step towards sustainable economic development in Haiti. Tell our leaders in Congress that ending subsidies to US rice farmers will help Haitians rebuild and recover.

  • Release from Prison the democratically elected ex-President of Taiwan Chen Shui-bian on Medical P...
Taiwanese-Americans are asking ALL Americans to help us in a situation where the US has a lot of influence: Taiwan's current President Ma Ing-jeou and his ruling Kuomintang Party ("KMT") have thrown the last democratically elected President Chen Shui-bian in prison on trumped up charges of corruption, which he is not able to adequately defend since his imprisonment. President Chen's health is rapidly deteriorating, as evidenced by the expert opinions of local and international medical teams who have seen him recently in his tiny jail cell, where he is NOT able to even sit in a chair, or have a bed, nor move about to exercise. This sets a dangerous precedent for future elections of presidents, in a fragile new democracy such as Taiwan, where direct Presidential elections were held only since 2000, when President Chen was elected. Under Human Rights laws, President Chen should be released immediately on medical grounds, and to prepare an adequate defense to the KMT accusations of corruption. The KMT has a long history of "white terror" and corruption on the island of Taiwan, since their military dictatorship of almost 40 years. Their current ill treatment of ex-President Chen (democratically elected in 2000, and re-elected in 2004) is in keeping with the KMT's long tradition of un-democratic behavior.

  • Long Term Aid to Israel
The current long term commitment to send billions to Israel takes us further away from any semblance of playing an honest broker, and it rewards an intransigent Israeli regime that has devoted itself to settlement expansion and essentially has been a non-partner in peace-seeking. More, Israel habitually thumbs its nose at us and takes us for fools...boasting that we will ultimately agree or acquiesce to anything they do.

  • Withdraw from the UN's Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs
The United Nations won't allow any country to legalize marijuana like wine while it's a signatory of the Single Convention. As the federal marijuana prohibition causes FAR more harm than good and reduces the safety of our children, we need to END it. The only way to legalize adult marijuana sales is to either get marijuana removed from the Single Convention or for the U.S. to withdraw itself from the treaty.

  • The Tides of War
I have not personally affected but I've become more and more concerned about the use of Drones by the military to target and kill innocent women and children along with any "likely" terrorists who might be hanging around. The price is too high. It's a weapon, much like the atom bomb, we use it at our peril. How many people do we have to kill so that we can be "safe"?
