• Protect voters nationwide -- pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act
Our right to vote is fundamental to our democracy -- but right now, it's in jeopardy. The Voting Rights Act, one of our nation’s proudest civil rights achievements, used to protect us from targeted voter suppression laws. States and counties with a history of discrimination had to pre-approve any changes to their voting rules with the Department of Justice -- which stopped thousands of dangerous provisions from taking effect. But the Supreme Court gutted that pre-clearance requirement in 2013 -- inviting opportunistic politicians to attack voters’ rights, pass new laws that would have never stood up to review, and make it harder for Americans to vote. We’ve especially seen the impacts of this decision in states like Georgia, where voter suppression efforts plagued the 2018 election. Congress must use its legislative power to remedy the Supreme Court’s decision and pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act -- a new, updated Voting Rights Act that protects every eligible American’s right to be heard. Add your name and demand Congress take a stand for voters.

  • Complaints About Mail Delivery in Hyattsville, MD
After multiple attempts to reach the proper officials to complain about delivery issues with the United States Post Office serving Hyattsville, MD, and its environs, we need to now notify State Officials that this situation has become intolerable, and is ongoing. We are asking for a public meeting with the proper officials who can actually solve these problems. Attempts to reach the local Postmaster have not been successful.

  • Make the 2020 Census count -- NO citizenship question
Last week, the Supreme Court announced it would decide whether the Trump administration can add a question about citizenship status to the 2020 Census questionnaire -- which will be sent to every household in the nation next year. The Court’s decision could have serious, lasting consequences. Experts suggest that including such a question would discourage legitimate responses, especially from communities of color -- leading to an inaccurate count. Getting this count right is critical to making sure our government works for everyone. The Census shapes our nation’s democracy, public policy, and funding for an entire decade. It determines everything from congressional districts to local resource allocation -- like school funding, the number of fire houses in our neighborhoods, and highway and road repair budgets. It’s up to us to tell the Supreme Court loud and clear that We the People deserve a fair, unbiased Census in 2020. Let's show that Americans nationwide are ready to make sure that we all count. Add your name to protect the Census and keep a citizenship question off of the questionnaire.

  • Commissioner Ron Beaty: Resign Now
Homophobic and bigoted rhetoric has no place in Massachusetts and elected officials should represent constituents not ridicule them. Barnstable County Commissioner Ron Beaty has perpetuated bigoted views against the LGBTQIA+ community and he should step down from public office.

  • Leveling Medical Requirements for Enlisted DOD Service Members Wishing to Commission to the Offic...
After 15 years of honorable service in the Navy and seven combat deployments, Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon M. Kent was seeking to commission in pursuit of a Ph.D. in military psychology. SCPO Kent was denied entry into Officer Development School because she was deemed medically unfit under medical standards for accession (DOD Instruction 6130.03) due to a brief bout with thyroid cancer two years prior. SCPO Kent sought a medical waiver from the Navy under MANMED Chap. 15. The Navy denied it. However, under medical standards for retention, the Navy simultaneously deemed SCPO Kent medically fit to deploy to Manbij, Syria where a suicide bomber killed her on January 16, 2019. This is an indefensible outcome as a result of a discriminatory DOD policy. In the wake of SCPO Kent's death, the Navy changed its waiver policy on February 5, 2019. However, if a service member is deemed medically fit to deploy to a war zone, they should not need a waiver for a commission in the officer corps. Thus, the DOD needs to change its medical standards for commissioning to obviate the need for a waiver altogether.

  • National Emergencies Act Fight Back
The Constitution ensures checks and balances between different branches of government, these guard against abuses of power. My kids learned that as early as first grade, and as an elected official in my hometown I took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. Emergencies such as wildfires, floods, and hurricanes have left millions of Americans homeless and destitute, resources and attention need to be focused on these emergencies and on the protections afforded everyone under our Constitution and Democracy.

  • Stop dumping on Ilhan Omar, she's right
I'm angry that Democrats are attacking Ilhan Omar. They are putting the interests of Israel over American values like free speech and justice. It's sickening.

  • Request Trump's Tax Returns Now
Donald Trump has demonstrated his disrespect for the American people by refusing to make public his tax records. The American people deserve to know if their president is working in the interests of foreign agents. They also have a right to know if he has evaded his responsibilities to pay his fair share of taxes. Only by seeing his tax returns can we obtain answers to these essential questions. Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Rep. Richard Neal, the only Democrat with the power to request the president’s tax returns, has inexplicably delayed making the request despite overwhelming support from the American people. Tell Richard Neal that we have waited long enough to see the president’s tax returns.
