Tuition-Free Public College vs. McCain $18B #NDAA Pentagon BloatIt's bad enough that more than half of our federal tax dollars go to the feed the bloated Pentagon and its fat cat contractors, while we're told there's not enough money for public education. But now Senator John McCain wants to pad the Pentagon budget with $18 billion more in an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act [NDAA]. [1] How much money is $18 billion? Bernie Sanders' plan for tuition-free public college would cost $70 billion a year. So-called "conservatives" howled: you'll bust the budget! We don't have the money! But McCain's bid to pad the Pentagon budget by $18 billion is barely being noticed by the national media. You flush $18 billion down the toilet four times, you just threw away the money for tuition-free public college. Urge Senators to oppose the McCain amendment to waste $18 billion more of our tax dollars on the Pentagon and demand a recorded vote by signing our petition. Count Every Provisional Ballot Nationwide Before National ConventionVoter suppression, ballot availability issues, and election fraud have been documented in many of the states' primary/caucus processes, I propose every vote be counted before the National Convention to ascertain the REAL delegate split, REAL popular vote totals, and ultimately which campaign actually earned the most support, we want the truth known before we meet in Philadelphia.745 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Lea Swink

US Dept of Justice and FBI please Investigate potential Trump bribes or other crimes in FL and TXIt looks like TRUMP got the AG's in two states to allow him to not pay back students who felt they had their money taken from them under false circumstances. I would hope that this type of potential white-collar crime would never happen to anyone in my family. TEXAS POTENTIAL TRUMP BRIBE PER CBS NEWS: "Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton moved to muzzle a former state regulator who says he was ordered in 2010 to drop a fraud investigation into Trump University for political reasons. Paxton's office issued a cease and desist letter to former Deputy Chief of Consumer Protection John Owens after he made public copies of a 14-page internal summary of the state's case against Donald Trump for scamming millions from students of his now-defunct real estate seminar. The former state regulator told The Associated Press on Friday that decision was highly unusual and left the bilked students on their own to attempt to recover their tuition money from the celebrity businessman." http://www.cbsnews.com/news/former-texas-official-says-he-was-told-to-drop-trump-university-probe/ FLORIDA POTENTIAL TRUMP BRIBE PER AP "WASHINGTON — Florida’s attorney general personally solicited a political contribution from Donald Trump around the same time her office deliberated joining an investigation of alleged fraud at Trump University and its affiliates The new disclosure from Attorney General Pam Bondi’s spokesman to the Associated Press on Monday provides additional details around the unusual circumstances of Trump’s $25,000 donation to Bondi. After the money came in, Bondi’s office nixed suing Trump. The money came from a Trump family foundation in apparent violation of rules surrounding political activities by charities. A political group backing Bondi’s re-election, called And Justice for All, reported receiving the check Sept. 17, 2013 — four days after Bondi publicly announced she was considering joining a New York state probe of Trump University’s activities." http://www.toledoblade.com/Politics/2016/06/06/Florida-AG-asked-Trump-for-donation-before-nixing-fraud-case-Pam-Bondi-solicited-political-contribution-received-25-000.html1,439 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Mike White

Florida Commission on Ethics: Investigate Attorney General Pam Bondi's Unethical BehaviorFlorida's Republican Attorney General, Pam Bondi, personally solicited a political contributions from Donald Trump while deliberately ignoring complaints of fraud at Trump University from Florida Residents. A report from the Orlando Sentinel details how Pam Bondi received $25,000 campaign contribution from Donald Trump three days before her office decided against investigating fraudulent practices at Trump University. Even worse, Trump's contribution to Pam Bondi came from a Trump family foundation - a clear violation or the rules regarding political activity by charities. It was extremely inappropriate and unethical for Pam Bondi to accept contributions from Donald Trump instead of investigating him. Pam Bondi serves the people of Florida, but she decided to advance her political career over defending her constituents from the predatory practices of Trump University. If we want to protect the public trust and ensure that Florida residents are protected from fraudulent schemes like Trump University, then we need to hold corrupt politicians like Pam Bondi accountable for their unethical behavior. We demand that the Florida Commission on Ethics launches an investigation on Pam Bondi's unethical behavior.4,472 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Juan Escalante

Servers and Tip Earners Should Be Included As Minimum Wage EarnersServers, bartenders, and wait staff have been earning $2.13/hour since 1992. They are, and always have been, COMPLETELY dependent on the generosity of others for their entire income. Even though there have been increases in the minimum wage (although not enough, but that is another discussion), servers have never been included in those that have been able to receive the benefits of those increases. Servers are among the lowest wage earners in the country. And they are among the hardest working employees. They do not just "show up" for a couple of hours and collect big tips and go home. An average server will put in anywhere from 7-13 hours everyday. They prepare food and beverages, clean counters, clean food and beverage machines, stock food, beverage and ice machines, stock all paper products including restrooms, polish glasses and silverware, set up serving stations and restaurant sections, among other things. And that is all BEFORE they start their shift serving guests in the restaurant to earn the tips that pay their bills. The average "earning period" for the server is about two, maybe three hours, hopefully. If the restaurant is slow, management will use their servers as cleaning staff to clean windows, brass rails, mirrors, doors, relocating booths to clean under them, chandeliers, cabinets, shelves, or anything else that "needs to be done." Servers are NEVER allowed to sit down while on the clock, nor are they allowed to eat, at all. All for $2.13/hour. When the server is "cut" from their ability to earn any more tips, they then repeat everything they did before they started their shift before their day ends. The worst part is by far the majority of guests have no idea that servers only make $2.13/hour. They do not realize that their "paycheck" completely goes to the government to be applied towards their taxes (barely). And because the guest is not required to leave any specific tip at all, the tip often times may only be 10% of the check. If you are an attentive and above average server, you may be able to receive 15%-20% tips on the total sales of your guests' checks. Again, however, the guest does not realize that 30%-35% of the tips the server receives immediately is deducted to be applied to compensate other employees in the restaurant (i.e., bartenders, hostesses, bussers, food runners, etc.). So that 10%-20% the server received quickly drops in reality to 7% to 14% income for the server. Then, to add insult to injury, since the recession hit almost a decade ago, business has dropped severely for everyone. Many, many, many days and nights servers are looking at empty tables. Empty tables equal empty pockets. I know of no other employee who shows up to work for an employer for 7-13 hours a day, puts in a full HARD days work, and walks out the door with nothing to show for it. And the employer does not have to pay them for their work. That is wrong. Servers should be paid a minimum wage just like every other worker who reports to work for their employer and puts in an honest hard days work.16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jill Jester

Is it time for Mayor Denis "Nero" Coderre to resign?Montreal is by far the most indebted city in Canada. It is time for Mayor Coderre to stop the lighting up of the Jacques Cartier Bridge, the granite stumps and other useless wastages of our money. If he can't control his senseless urges, then he should do the honourable thing and RESIGN immediately! Enough is enough!2,719 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Murray Levine

West Virginia State Legislators: Pay It BackThe WV state legislature had a job to do in "regular session": pass a budget for FY 2017 and deal with a $270 million projected deficit. But, they spent their time on less important issues and now are in "special session" to try to pass a budget. If they do not pass a budget by June 30, thousands of state employees will be furloughed -- which in WV means "fired." That special session is costing WV taxpayers $35,000 per day, contributing to the deficit rather than solving it. With costs now surpassing $385,000 for their inability to do their job, they should pay the taxpayers back.1,252 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Vicki Stroeher

Tell Gov. Kasich: Stop Ohio's Poll TaxImagine heading to the polls and seeing machines that are malfunctioning or power outages at your polling place. You wait for an hour, but have to leave to go to work or pick up your children. It might be difficult for you to get back to the polls before 7:30 p.m. Normally, officials can extend polling hours when equipment malfunctions, inclement weather, or other problems prevent folks from being able to vote. But a bill on its way to Ohio Gov. Kasich’s desk would make that much harder by forcing an individual to foot the cost of a bond (and maybe the whole bill) to keep the polls open. Even worse, the bill would leave it up to a judge to decide which petitioners have to front tens of thousands of dollars to cover overtime pay for every poll worker in the county and which ones don't. A voter can petition for extended hours without paying anything if they are "indigent" but in a case in which a voter claims inability to pay, they are the only one who gets to vote. The polls are closed to all other voters even though they faced the same problem. Last November more than 83% of polling locations in Hamilton County reported having problems with new election equipment and the polls were kept open longer [1]. In March, a massive car wreck prevented thousands of voters from making it to the polls in the normal time, so Hamilton County extended the closing time. Under the new law, this could have cost an individual voter upwards of $30,000 [2]. Tell Governor Kasich: The right to vote shouldn't carry a price tag. Veto SB 296 and stop this attack on voters. We deserve a debate!Unlike the pundits and media spokespeople who constantly refer to a "presumptive" Democratic candidate for the General Election, many California voters are apparently of a different opinion, evidenced by the recent dramatic surge in polls for Bernie Sanders. The near virtual tie between Sanders/Clinton may be reflective of Hillary Clinton's decreased favorablity ratings compared to Donald Trump in national polls, and raise the legitimate question among California voters as to who is the strongest candidate to beat Trump in the Presidential Election.37 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Eric Thrasher
