  • Let Rob Sarvis debate
In Virginia, we have a gubernatorial race that is shaping up to be a leading example of what it is like to have no choice. However, the reality of the situation is: we do have a choice. There is man named Rob Sarvis running for governor on the Libertarian ticket, but most Virginians haven't even heard of him yet. I have met the man and he is the real deal. His credentials are on the Internet and they are impressive. I want us to have a real choice this year, help me get this man into the debates by pressuring the hosts of the debates.

  • NY Senators Schumer & Gillibrand: Tax Wall Street, Invest in us
The end of the fiscal year is September 30th; when elected officials get back from the August recess they will either have to pass a budget or a continuing resolution to keep the gov't running. Talk of Grand Bargains-- more cuts to both corporate taxes and vital government services-- are starting to move again in D.C. Corporations and their front groups like Fix the Debt put forward a public face of bipartisan concern and cooperation for the country and our budget crisis, but their real agenda - cut earned benefits and our human and physical infrastructure to pay for massive corporate tax breaks - is clear. They are swarming Capitol Hill pushing their agenda, and some of our elected officials are picking it up. "Fix the Debt" uses terms like "tax reform" and advocates for a territorial tax system, which would exempt every penny of offshore profits from US taxation – a $134 billion windfall annually. They say "entitlement reform" and mean cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. They say "balance" and they mean lowering corporate tax rates. Our economy continues to be sluggish, income inequality is rising and our communities are struggling. A decades-long campaign by corporate interests and the 1% has discredited government, starved revenues, and concentrate wealth and political power in the hands of the few. We’re facing high unemployment and stagnant wages, while corporations and the wealthy are sitting on trillions of dollars in cash and demanding our elected officials grant them more tax breaks paid for with cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and our human and physical infrastructure. Wall Street corporations who spend their money lobbying instead of paying their fair share can't be allowed to keep rigging out system according to their economic interest.

  • Constitutional Amendment Authorizing Recall of U. S. Congresspeople
We do not send Senators and Representatives to Washington to mindlessly sabotage Presidential initiatives in the name of politricks [sic]. We elect them in hopes that they keep in mind the greater good and act thereon. How do we take back the reins of government and let our elected officials know that it is "we the people" - living, reasoning, breathing, bleeding human beings - for whom they should be laboring, and not corporations, which, in the eyes of the law, are considered persons, as well? So please join with me in demanding that Congress propose an amendment that will give us the authority to fire them if they are not about their constituents' business.

  • Members of the Harvard Community Opposing Larry Summers to Chair the Fed
President Obama may choose Larry Summers to Chair the Federal Reserve Bank. This is a petition for members of the Harvard community. It is informing President Obama that we oppose the appointment of Larry Summers to this position. Please only sign this petition if you are a member of the Harvard community and indicate your affiliation. Please also note if you were a member of the Harvard community while Summers was President of Harvard (2001-2006). Summers was involved with many policies that resulted in the crash of 2008, including the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act. His sexism has created controversies for many years, including, most famously, for comments he made while President of Harvard; after a vote of no confidence from the Harvard faculty, he resigned his post. He is also known for being abrasive and aggressive, and these qualities would not be helpful in building consensus as Fed Chair. Janet Yellen, the woman who is currently Vice-Chair of Fed, is experienced, eminently qualified for the job, and would follow through on Ben Bernanke's policies
