As Ministers of the Gospel Of Christ we are required to demand justice....Luke 4:16-19 16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke is called a skilled writer and wrote to send a message to all people. His cultural identity is that of a Gentile (not of Jewish origin). The center of this story is about proclaiming hope in a tangible way for the all people of God. That changes circumstances and challenges systems that create unjust social and political policies. This verse speaks to my call because of the need for just policies on contemporary issues like gun control, poverty and education and this Government shutdown.

The Discharge Petition option is almost never used, unheard of by most of our U.S. Representatives and almost certainly unknown to most citizens. A simple reminder that this procedure exists could spark an interest, and a way out for all parties concerned.

Like most Americans today I am disgusted by the antics and childish behavior of our elected officials. They can actively work against the best interests of their people, or even not work at all, and still receive salaries far outside the people they are supposed to represent. If someone from any other field were to behave in such a manner they would be out of a job.

Way too much legislation finds its way into law by being added to unrelated bills. Congress should make law on its merit alone, not because it was appended to a totally unrelated measure.

Our government is shut down. People in all fifty states are suffering, from tourists locked out of National Parks and Monuments to children with cancer unable to sign up for clinic trials to mothers with infants and children. This standoff needs to end and the way to do that is through a Discharge Petition to force a vote on a clean continuing resolution. Get our government back to work NOW!

Americans are outraged at the current system rewarding politicians and deserve to vote to bring the system back into place. Congress cannot police this themselves.

Every American has been suffering due to politics winning over the will of the people. As a real estate broker, we have already seen buyers not being able to move because they have FHA loans or other government programs. Congress has forgotten why they are there and who's paying them. They are supposed to serve at the will of the people, all of the people, not just their party line. Please sign this petition!

We all have a stake in this: if our country's credit rating is downgraded yet again due to foolish Tea Party game-playing, our entire economy could potentially crash again despite how far we've come since 2008. Speaker Boehner has the votes he needs to end the shutdown, but refuses to behave like a responsible adult and elected official. If his goal is obstruction to the point that government cannot function at all, we shouldn't be paying him for a job that he isn't doing.

What does it say about America when the government goes on strike? When employees of a company go on strike, the company just hires new people. Maybe that is what we need, fresh blood in office. The government is designed to serve us the people, not special interest parties. We need to take the corruption out before it festers.

Studies show that the typical American only has a few months’ worth of expenses in their savings account. Individuals who work for the government cannot afford to go unpaid for significant periods of time. They did their job and are willing to continue to work for their livelihood, Congress should learn from their example. The shutdown of the government impacts more than the bank accounts of families, it affects children with cancer who were going to sign up for cancer treatment trials and now can't. The government shutdown hampers the ability of the government to react in any crisis situation because the civilian workers who support our military are not there to assist in normal operations. The government shutdown creates a vacuum in spending, which will weaken our economy in a time where we just started to build momentum. The government shutdown closes parks and national monuments to children, family and individuals who go there for recreation, vacations or field trips. The government shutdown will cause many hardships both in DC and across the Nation. Let's not let it continue.
