Currently 400 of the wealthiest individuals are deciding what legislation is going to be passed, based on their own interests. This has led to deregulation and tax breaks. Legislators are being bribed every day by lobbyists because people (and corporations apparently) can donate unlimited funds to campaigns. Commissioners get elected and stay there without visible help to the Community

This petition is about fairness, accountability and the democratic process. I call on the North Carolina Democratic and Republican Parties to change the way they elect their leaders to allow all registered party members to vote on who represents them. A political party that does not elect its leaders by popular vote has no legitimacy.

Government might default because of possible sequestration. The sequester details cuts from Medicare , housing needs for the poor, food safety, Army, etc. _EXCEPTING the salaries of Congressional lawmakers. These are the very people whose salaries should be cut first and proportionally, as we get closer to the deadlie. These are the very people whose inaction brought the country to the brink last year. It's time to cut Congressional lawmakers' salaries NOW!

To return the electoral process to the people, to reverse the disastrous effects of the Supreme Court decision that allows unlimited, unregulated special interest money to corrupt our democratic process, a Constitutional amendment that places all elections–federal, state and local–under limited public financing regulation, is needed.

I find it extremely troubling that key government programs we depend on (ranging from Medicare to defense to homeland security) will be eviscerated if our Representatives and Senators can’t come to terms on a budget solution. As currently structured, these automatic budget cuts would have a devastating impact on many parts of the economy and put our vulnerable citizens and our nation’s security at-risk. Seriously...devastating in a way that few people realize. But rest assured, while children may go hungry, elderly patients may be turned away by doctors, and our nation’s security is threatened, lawmakers were careful to shield their own salaries from any cuts, should they fail to reach a compromise. They can completely fail at the very job we are paying them to do, drive our country over a cliff and still keep 100% of their taxpayer-funded pay (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/15/us/politics/white-house-report-details-effects-of-automatic-budget-cuts.html?hp). Outrageous. Any lawmaker who is unwilling to negotiate in good faith and make bipartisan compromises to produce a responsible, reasonable and timely budget (and keep us from going over the cliff), needs to be sent home. At least they should have the decency to refuse their pay until they solve this significant problem. Country before party.

I would like to see our legislators on the same page as the people they represent especially in the areas of health care and retirement. I signed a petition similar to this one a year or so ago. what happened to it? This is something that all Americans can agree on. It's ridiculous that our legislators in MI get their full salaries for for retirement for serving in the MI house or senate. Legislators would not be so anxious to cut SS or cut health benefits if it effected them personally.

Candidates running unopposed.

I am really upset that one side of the political advertising we see on any media, is outnumbered almost 10 to 1, of the other side. After hearing the same thing over and over on the one side and hardly ever hearing the other side, I begin to think , how could anyone not believe the one you hear over and over. I think there should be a law that the amount spent on political advertising, cannot be more on one side than the other. Then, they would actually have to think about what they say, carefully, because the other side would have equal time. And we wouldn't have to hear the same thing over and over ad-nauseum.

Corporations are not the same as people, as the Supreme court ruled and, this unjust ruling needs to be overturned immediately. As it stands now, corporations are contributing hundreds of millions of dollars to the republican presidential campaign in an effort to "buy" this election. Actually, the corporations and their billions of dollars are attempting to steal the election from the American people by "buying" their politicians. If elected and once in office "their" politician will not have the best interest of the people nor of the country in general but, yes you guessed it, he will have the best interest of the corporations.
