• Tell the NRA to take down its vicious incendiary recruitment video!
The NRA is using dangerous language to rally their members against progressives and people of color. In a vicious and incendiary recruitment ad, filled with images from recent demonstrations, the NRA creates an illusion of safety for their members by threatening the safety of others. MomsRising unequivocally joins the Women's March and other partners in denouncing the video and calling on the NRA to take the following actions: 1. Take down the recent irresponsible and dangerous videos from all social platforms immediately. 2. Issue an apology to the American people for the video that suggests armed violence against communities of color, progressives, and anyone who does not agree with this Administration's policies. 3. Make a statement in defense of Philando Castile's Second Amendment right to own a firearm, demanding that the Department of Justice indict the police officer who killed Castile for exercising that right.

  • Oppose a gun store at Routes 45 & 83
We respectfully request that the Planning and Zoning Commission of Mundelein deny the request for a variance for the proposed property at 800 East Route 45, Mundelein. We believe that the location of a business which would sell firearms and ammunition to civilians would be better suited to an area already zoned for that usage and that such areas already exist in the village of Mundelein. The property at 800 East Route 45 abuts a day care center, two residential neighborhoods, a retirement home, and is on a main thoroughfare within a mile of three churches, youth baseball and softball fields, and a day camp. We, the undersigned, do not believe that this business is consistent with the Planning and Zoning Commission’s Comprehensive Plan because it would not strengthen existing industrial and business uses. We also believe that it would not revitalize the area as a shopping destination and community gateway because the existing neighboring retail properties are already occupied.

  • Tell President Trump & Congress - National Concealed-Carry is Dangerous for Communities and Schools
Update: Dec. 6, 2017 Today, the House of Representatives is due to vote on HR 38. (S. 446 & H.R. 38) would redefine who could carry a loaded, concealed weapon in public areas across the nation. Currently, states designate their own laws concerning who is qualified to carry a weapon and this law will undermine the authority of the state. This legislation is extremely dangerous because it would allow the states with the weakest gun laws to set the standard for the nation. For example: "states that have taken the most lax approach to concealed weapons permitting would effectively set the national standard, allowing individuals with no safety training, with violent misdemeanor convictions, or with a demonstrated history of drug or alcohol abuse to legally carry concealed, loaded guns in every state in the country."(1) Most importantly, one version of this legislation would allow individuals who live in states with no training or permit requirements to carry in states that do require such measures. Tell President Trump and Congress to continue to allow individual states to maintain local control and determine their own safety laws concerning who can carry loaded, concealed weapons. Please sign and share this petition with others. Thanks for taking action. _____________________ 1) https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/guns-crime/reports/2017/02/13/414921/federally-mandated-concealed-carry-legislation/

  • Governor Deal - Veto Guns on Campus (HB 280)
BACKGROUND In May 2016, Governor Deal vetoed HB 859 (guns on campus) after hearing from tens of thousands of Georgians across the state who did not want guns on college campuses. This year is the second time that a bill like this has made it to the Governor’s desk. We believe that Governor Deal will act quickly on this bill. He needs to hear from Georgia’s campus stakeholders – students, faculty, staff, parents, visitors, and concerned citizens. These stakeholders know that guns carried by people who have little or no training, or who can not be asked if they are legally permitted to carry lethal weapons will not make our campuses safer. Please sign and share this petition right away. As we did last year, we will deliver all petition signatures to Governor Deal. Thanks for signing and sharing.

  • Defeat Hearing Protection Act (HR-367)
If you hear the sound of a gun, you would try to protect yourself from further gun fire. The police are using new technology that uses the sound of gun fire to help protect the citizens. This proposed bill is trying to make it easier for people to buy gun silencers. The current law - which is not infringing on anyone's right to own a gun - makes it very difficult to buy a silencer, and for good reason. If gun silencers were able to be purchased freely, then there's a greater risk of killing innocent lives. Also, a greater use of gun silencers will impede the police from protecting us, especially when there's a mass shooting. A NY Times editorial dated March 24, 2017 titled "Echoes of Gunfire Hurt Tender N.R.A. Ears" explains the insanity of this proposed bill. Please protect your constituents and prevent this bill from passing. Here's a link to this editorial. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/24/opinion/echoes-of-gunfire-hurt-tender-nra-ears.html?_r=0

  • Tell FedEx: Stop Supporting the NRA!
FedEx is a member of the National Rifle Association's Business Alliance. As a member of the alliance, it grants discounts of up to 26 percent for NRA members, a generous perk that encourages people to join the NRA and adopt its gun culture, building the organization's power. In 2016, FedEx was #58 on the Fortune 500 list of companies, with revenues exceeding $50 billion. As an economic powerhouse, and as an iconic American brand, it needs to send a message to the gun lobby and reassure the communities it serves that it does not condone the NRA's extremist agenda by cutting its NRA ties. The National Rifle Association accepts millions of dollars from gun manufacturers every year to advance an extremist pro-gun agenda, while presenting itself as a grassroots organization for gun owners, which FedEx helps to support by being part of the NRA Business Alliance and offering members discounts. The NRA right now is working to eliminate gun-free zones at schools and houses of worship, gutting criminal background checks for gun sales, and getting rid of all permitting requirements for people who want to conceal-carry their weapons, among other things. FedEx should not have any part in building the NRA's membership and advancing its lethal agenda.

  • No guns for the mentally ill
I am just a citizen, saddened deeply by Sandy Hook, Colorado cinema murders, University of Virginia, and so many more. So many of these murders were committed by persons that were mentally ill. How many more do we need before we say, there must be some limits to gun ownership! Act now!
