I don't have to be personally impacted by gun violence in order to have concern for others who have. If I can protect my loved ones ahead of an incident, then, my actions will have been effective.

Almost weekly you see headlines about gun violence. Immediately each side start shouting the usual arguments. But what are the facts. For years, scientists have been forbidden to gather the information to make rational decisions that can effect the lives of every US citizen.

There are insufficient regulations, laws or licensure to keep mentally healthy, law abiding citizens safe from weapons of mass destruction, which is what automatic, semi automatic and assault weapons are in the hands of the public. The congress has proven unable to provide for the general public safety on this issue and the public must take action!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We must stop the SHUSH Act from becoming law! The public should be able to attend concerts, sporting events, or other large gatherings without having to worry about a madman with an assault rifle and a SILENCER! In the latest mass shooting in Las Vegas, with at least 50 killed, people could HEAR the gun shots, and were warned there was an active shooter from the noise. There is no logic to enabling silencers, and yet the #CorruptGOP led Congress is set to once again do the NRA's bidding. NO to the SUSH ACT!

Many enjoy watching funny, harmless videos on YouTube. To have to endure even 4 seconds of the harsh and violent content of several recent NRA videos is disturbing. Even worse, children could be exposed to these "ads" over and over and over. It is unacceptable and irresponsible to disguise a call for violence and division as an "ad" and for YouTube to expose unsuspecting audiences to this violent propaganda.

The NRA is using dangerous language to rally their members against progressives and people of color. In a vicious and incendiary recruitment ad, filled with images from recent demonstrations, the NRA creates an illusion of safety for their members by threatening the safety of others. MomsRising unequivocally joins the Women's March and other partners in denouncing the video and calling on the NRA to take the following actions: 1. Take down the recent irresponsible and dangerous videos from all social platforms immediately. 2. Issue an apology to the American people for the video that suggests armed violence against communities of color, progressives, and anyone who does not agree with this Administration's policies. 3. Make a statement in defense of Philando Castile's Second Amendment right to own a firearm, demanding that the Department of Justice indict the police officer who killed Castile for exercising that right.

I am starting this petition on behalf of the families who lost their children and loved ones due to the horrific Sandy Hook tragedy.

We respectfully request that the Planning and Zoning Commission of Mundelein deny the request for a variance for the proposed property at 800 East Route 45, Mundelein. We believe that the location of a business which would sell firearms and ammunition to civilians would be better suited to an area already zoned for that usage and that such areas already exist in the village of Mundelein. The property at 800 East Route 45 abuts a day care center, two residential neighborhoods, a retirement home, and is on a main thoroughfare within a mile of three churches, youth baseball and softball fields, and a day camp. We, the undersigned, do not believe that this business is consistent with the Planning and Zoning Commission’s Comprehensive Plan because it would not strengthen existing industrial and business uses. We also believe that it would not revitalize the area as a shopping destination and community gateway because the existing neighboring retail properties are already occupied.

Update: Dec. 6, 2017 Today, the House of Representatives is due to vote on HR 38. (S. 446 & H.R. 38) would redefine who could carry a loaded, concealed weapon in public areas across the nation. Currently, states designate their own laws concerning who is qualified to carry a weapon and this law will undermine the authority of the state. This legislation is extremely dangerous because it would allow the states with the weakest gun laws to set the standard for the nation. For example: "states that have taken the most lax approach to concealed weapons permitting would effectively set the national standard, allowing individuals with no safety training, with violent misdemeanor convictions, or with a demonstrated history of drug or alcohol abuse to legally carry concealed, loaded guns in every state in the country."(1) Most importantly, one version of this legislation would allow individuals who live in states with no training or permit requirements to carry in states that do require such measures. Tell President Trump and Congress to continue to allow individual states to maintain local control and determine their own safety laws concerning who can carry loaded, concealed weapons. The Safe Cities Coalition has spent the past two years working toward passing sensible gun laws in San Jose, to minimize accidental deaths and suicides that occur because of access to guns.

The amount of news involving gun violence in the world today, especially in the United States, is still prevalent and cause for major concern. Thousands of innocent individuals die because of the vast amount of guns present in society.

To install metal detectors at each public school entrance. Parents should be at ease knowing their kids would be safe in the public schools. Our children lives and education is our top priority.
