  • Gun Control: Stricter Enforcement
The amount of news involving gun violence in the world today, especially in the United States, is still prevalent and cause for major concern. Thousands of innocent individuals die because of the vast amount of guns present in society.

  • Governor Deal - Veto Guns on Campus (HB 280)
BACKGROUND In May 2016, Governor Deal vetoed HB 859 (guns on campus) after hearing from tens of thousands of Georgians across the state who did not want guns on college campuses. This year is the second time that a bill like this has made it to the Governor’s desk. We believe that Governor Deal will act quickly on this bill. He needs to hear from Georgia’s campus stakeholders – students, faculty, staff, parents, visitors, and concerned citizens. These stakeholders know that guns carried by people who have little or no training, or who can not be asked if they are legally permitted to carry lethal weapons will not make our campuses safer. Please sign and share this petition right away. As we did last year, we will deliver all petition signatures to Governor Deal. Thanks for signing and sharing.

  • Defeat Hearing Protection Act (HR-367)
If you hear the sound of a gun, you would try to protect yourself from further gun fire. The police are using new technology that uses the sound of gun fire to help protect the citizens. This proposed bill is trying to make it easier for people to buy gun silencers. The current law - which is not infringing on anyone's right to own a gun - makes it very difficult to buy a silencer, and for good reason. If gun silencers were able to be purchased freely, then there's a greater risk of killing innocent lives. Also, a greater use of gun silencers will impede the police from protecting us, especially when there's a mass shooting. A NY Times editorial dated March 24, 2017 titled "Echoes of Gunfire Hurt Tender N.R.A. Ears" explains the insanity of this proposed bill. Please protect your constituents and prevent this bill from passing. Here's a link to this editorial. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/24/opinion/echoes-of-gunfire-hurt-tender-nra-ears.html?_r=0

  • Tell FedEx: Stop Supporting the NRA!
FedEx is a member of the National Rifle Association's Business Alliance. As a member of the alliance, it grants discounts of up to 26 percent for NRA members, a generous perk that encourages people to join the NRA and adopt its gun culture, building the organization's power. In 2016, FedEx was #58 on the Fortune 500 list of companies, with revenues exceeding $50 billion. As an economic powerhouse, and as an iconic American brand, it needs to send a message to the gun lobby and reassure the communities it serves that it does not condone the NRA's extremist agenda by cutting its NRA ties. The National Rifle Association accepts millions of dollars from gun manufacturers every year to advance an extremist pro-gun agenda, while presenting itself as a grassroots organization for gun owners, which FedEx helps to support by being part of the NRA Business Alliance and offering members discounts. The NRA right now is working to eliminate gun-free zones at schools and houses of worship, gutting criminal background checks for gun sales, and getting rid of all permitting requirements for people who want to conceal-carry their weapons, among other things. FedEx should not have any part in building the NRA's membership and advancing its lethal agenda.

  • No guns for the mentally ill
I am just a citizen, saddened deeply by Sandy Hook, Colorado cinema murders, University of Virginia, and so many more. So many of these murders were committed by persons that were mentally ill. How many more do we need before we say, there must be some limits to gun ownership! Act now!

  • Families won't vacation in "guns everywhere" Florida
Even as our thoughts and prayers are going out to the Ft. Lauderdale shooting victims and their families, the Florida State Legislature is AT THIS VERY MOMENT considering a "guns everywhere" bill that would open up a long list of public places to firearms. Those places include Florida’s college and university campuses, county and municipal buildings, legislative committee meetings, K-12 schools and...airports. Yes, airports. The bill would furthermore seek to allow concealed weapons holders to open carry in Florida. 1.7 million Floridians are conceal carry permit holders, the greatest concentration of permit holders in the country. Firearm homicides claim 4.5 Floridians per 100,000, which is higher than the national average of 3.5 Americans per 100,000. With studies showing that states with weak gun laws have the most gun violence, Florida should not be weakening its laws further by forcing more public spaces to allow guns and by permitting concealed weapons holders to open carry. The tourism sector is a powerful voice in Florida and can influence state policy on gun safety. The Florida Commission on Tourism and other leaders in the tourism industry will not like to hear that weaker gun laws that lead to more guns in public places may lead people to start looking elsewhere for that perfect family vacation. Tell the Florida Commission on Tourism now that seeing guns everywhere would not help families feel safe and welcome in the Sunshine State.

  • Floridians--Tell Gov. Scott and State Legislators to oppose bills to permit open carry of guns on...
December 14, 2016 For the third year in a row, gun lobby-backed legislators, including State Senator Greg Steube, are continuing their assault on public safety by introducing legislation that will change current Florida law and allow loaded guns to be openly carried in educational institutions, airports, bars and county and municipal buildings. These bills will also expand the scope of places where Florida's notorious "Stand Your Ground" law could be invoked. Together, we have stopped the gun lobby in the past. As we begin a new legislative session, your help is needed to secure a safer Florida. Help us stop SB 140 and similar legislation (like HB6005, which will allow concealed handguns on campus). Please sign this petition and share with friends. We will deliver all signatures to lawmakers in Tallahassee. Thanks for all you do. Andy Pelosi The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus

  • Ohio Gov. Kasich: Say NO To Guns in Daycares & On Campuses
*****UPDATE: PLEASE READ***** We are currently waiting to find out the extent to which the language of House Bill 48 was "rolled into" Senate Bill 199 last night, another piece of pro-gun legislation. So far, it looks like we will be lobbying Gov. Kasich to veto SB199, not HB48. We will provide updates as soon as we have them. It is now more important than ever to sign and share this petition - the fight just got harder, and the stakes just got higher. ----------------------------- As students and residents of Ohio, Kenyon Students for Gun Sense, along with our partnered gun violence prevention organizations (Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence and the Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus) are deeply concerned about the potential consequences for our local and state communities if House Bill 48 is allowed to pass into law. By allowing concealed carry into such vulnerable areas as daycares, airports, school safety zones (while in a vehicle, such as while picking up or dropping off your student)and college campuses, as well as some state and local government buildings, HB48 makes Ohio a more dangerous and more at-risk state - not a safer one. Join us in expressing your opposition to this dangerous piece of legislation. In addition to signing and sharing this petition, you can call Governor Kasich's office directly at (614) 466-3555, and/or express your opposition on Facebook, or Twitter via @JohnKasich. When posting on social media, use the hashtag #NoSB199.
