• All Essential Workers Need Hazardous Pay
The virus is asymptomatic and healthcare workers and other types of Essential Workers are being exposed. Some healthcare workers are now responsible for solely providing for their families on one income. Healthcare Essential workers are risking their lives everyday and were not tested before Governor Hogan’s mandate to be tested for Covid-19. Some nursing homes are willing to increase pay while others are not. The virus is deadly. Part time employees do not have benefits such as sick pay or medical insurance. Some healthcare facilities are still not practicing social distancing at these healthcare facilities when caring for patients. Healthcare facility essential workers are not provided with the proper PPE, such as N-95 masks. Until the facilities actually test the residents and staff, we are to work as normal when we could actually all have the virus. We should receive an extra $600 per week just like non-essential workers. Essential Workers are not just healthcare workers, but are restaurant workers, grocery store workers, Uber, Lyft, Instacart drivers to name a few. We are the Heroes sacrificing our lives for America and especially for our families and yours.

  • Barber Shops & Hair Salons - Please do not open on May 20!
This is important to mitigate the spread of the virus and avoid another spike in deaths and new cases. The beauty industry is very contact-based and hands-on. You can sanitize and disinfect tools all you want, but if the source of the virus is sitting in the chair for long stretches that virus is saturating the environment and reaching much more than the tools themselves. It puts the staff and other clients sharing the space at risk.

  • McDonald’s: Give Workers Paid Leave Protections Now
Hundreds of thousands of McDonald’s front-line employees are facing an impossible decision in the midst of the worsening COVID-19 crisis: Keep our jobs or maintain their health. Dozens of McDonald’s workers in 14 states have contracted the virus and in a recent survey 22 percent of McDonald’s workers report they have gone to work feeling sick during the COVID-19 pandemic because of a lack of paid sick leave, fear of management retaliation for missing shifts or because they simply cannot afford to miss a paycheck. McDonald’s slow, inadequate and irresponsible response in this crisis has placed us, our families and customers at risk. It’s well past time that McDonald’s use its vast resources to be a leader on behalf of us— the workers who contribute so much to the corporation’s brand, reputation, and profits. We must make it clear that if McDonald’s wishes to be seen as a leader in the fast-food industry after this crisis, then it needs to lead from the front and put worker safety and public health first. No one should have to choose between their health or their livelihoods. Together, we can hold them accountable: Sign our petition today and urge McDonald’s to mandate paid sick and family leave protections for all workers now.

  • Renewal of Florida DOH Emergency Order 20-004 to Continue Telehealth Waivers
The Department of Health’s Emergency Order 20-002 (renewed by Emergency Order 20-004), ONLY allows controlled substance prescribing practitioners, to issue RENEWAL prescriptions for Schedule II–IV controlled substances via telehealth, for existing patients being treated for chronic non-malignant pain. The current options for practitioners in Florida for prescribing controlled substances via telehealth are extremely limited and are forcing these patients to facet-to-face visits, which defeats the purpose of keeping patients at home. As of March 16, 2020, and continuing for as long as the COVID-19 public health emergency remains in effect, DEA-registered practitioners in all areas of the United States may issue prescriptions for all schedule II-V controlled substances to patients for whom they have not conducted an in-person medical evaluation, provided all of the following conditions are met: • The prescription is issued for a legitimate medical purpose by a practitioner acting in the usual course of his/her professional practice; • The telemedicine communication is conducted using an audio-visual, real-time, two-way interactive communication system; and • The practitioner is acting in accordance with applicable Federal and State laws. The following are some common examples where licensed physicians in an office setting who practice in other states are able to follow the DEA’s policy and prescribe controlled substances via telehealth, but Florida physicians are not able to do so: 1. Refill of a prescription for a controlled substance for a patient transferred from another physician. 2. Refill of a prescription for a controlled substance for an existing patient being treated for a purpose other than chronic non-malignant pain. 3. Issue a new prescription for a controlled substance for an existing patient. 4. Change the dosage of an existing prescription for a controlled substance for an existing patient. 5. Issue a prescription for a controlled substance for a new patient. We recommend the Florida DOH considers adopting the DEA’s policy in an Emergency Order. We also recommend that these policies continue as long as the public health emergency continues. Sincerely, Elizabeth Shaw, Esq. • Tyson Foods: Don't Reopen Without Paid Leave
Tyson Foods, one of the largest meat processing companies in the world, has become the next deadly epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic. Meat processing plants have long been one of the most dangerous workplaces in America, but the Coronavirus has made the situation drastically worse. Meat processors work shoulder to shoulder in crowded plants. From Iowa to Georgia, thousands of employees at meat processing plants have gotten sick and several have even died--forcing Tyson to close multiple plants where outbreaks had occurred. Now, Tyson is planning to reopen plants, after President Trump ordered meat processors to stay open. That means that employees will be going back to work in an environment where social distancing is impossible--but since Tyson has no comprehensive paid sick or family leave policies, they’ll be forced to choose between their paycheck and protecting their health and their families. That’s why employees and consumers are speaking out together: Nobody should have to risk their health--or their family’s health--to go to work. Tyson must provide paid leave to all employees before they reopen a single plant. Will you add your name?

  • EXPOSED: Big Money group funds “reopen” protests
The Convention of States (COS) -- a shady special interest group funded by right-wing billionaires like the Mercers -- wants us to believe that the “reopen” protests popping up in states are led entirely by everyday Americans. But the truth is: they’re not. Behind the scenes, COS is helping to pull the strings. Its members are targeting people on social media and throwing serious funding behind these protests -- to create an illusion of mass discontent against the social distancing guidelines that keep us safe during the COVID-19 crisis. Polling shows widespread support for following social distancing guidelines. [1] But these secretly-funded protests are meant to muddy the waters -- and make states roll back life-saving measures before experts say it’s safe. Make no mistake: these protests are dangerous. Public gatherings give the disease more opportunity to spread… they can incite distrust of public health officials... and reporters covering the event in Lansing, Michigan even noted that the rally blocked ambulances from accessing a hospital. This isn't the first time that COS has pushed for Big Money interests over the needs of the American people. In fact, the group was founded to urge Republican legislators to call for an Article V constitutional convention -- where unelected, unaccountable delegates could write their far-right agenda directly into our Constitution. This is just another ploy by the Convention of States to sow distrust of public health experts and other government officials... so that when the time comes, overhauling our system and rewriting the Constitution seems like the only option. We can’t let this billionaire-backed, far-right special interest group and its allies endanger our friends, families, and communities. We must spread the word about who’s REALLY behind these protests -- as well as continue to listen to health professionals and follow CDC guidelines. 1) https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/inside-the-conservative-networks-backing-anti-quarantine-protests/2020/04/22/da75c81e-83fe-11ea-a3eb-e9fc93160703_story.html

  • $2000 a month Basic Income for American Taxpayers
The American economy has taking a huge hit with unemployment skyrocketing over March and April 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the numbers will continue to rise. We are witnessing a domino effect of massive job loss. Businesses close, then the taxpayers have no income to report to the IRS and no taxes to be paid. Of course no income means a steep decline in the agriculture industry, food processing, banking, and mortgage industries just to name a few. Our tax dollars are what makes this economy rise or fall. It is the government's spending of this money which determines what programs are funded or not, and what is considered valuable. Well, now it is time for our government to show its appreciation to loyal American taxpayers by helping us through one of the most financial difficulties in current times. Way too often, large companies such as banks receive MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER MONEY so they will not collapse even though CEO's receive million dollar bonuses and the company makes millions in profits. The government is EAGER to provide them with tax breaks and trillion dollar relief funds at American taxpayer expense. Millions of American taxpayers are working making under $30,000 a year, many more are working 2 jobs, such as teachers, just to somewhat survive. The cost of rent, utilities, food, gas, etc., continues to grow except incomes. A basic income of $2000 a month for American taxpayers age 18 and older and $500 a month for children would give a great start in boosting the economy. Once this financial difficulty has lifted, the economy won't take as long to recover.
