I care deeply about the wonderful, diverse community in Brooklyn where I live. Many hard-working immigrants live in Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, Gravesend and Staten Island, which make up Rep. Dan Donovan's district. Many of our Muslim brothers and sisters call these wonderful neighborhoods home. This ban on Muslims and refugees affects many families in our neighborhoods. Families are at risk of being torn apart. Refugees who have found a welcoming home in our neighborhoods are wondering if they will face persecution yet again. We all share an interest in keeping our neighborhoods safe and welcoming for immigrants of all religions and communities. If you live in these neighborhoods, or have family members here, you may be affected as well. Discrimination based on country of origin or religion is unconstitutional and damaging to the social and economic fabric of our cherished neighborhoods. Let's stand together in solidarity against this unconstitutional and discriminatory ban and ask Rep. Dan Donovan, who is our elected representative, to do the same.

I want to start this petition because I'm enraged how this wall would directly affect tens of thousands of hard working families.

We respectfully ask Congress to take all necessary steps to invalidate, nullify and void President Trump's Executive Order. The order is fundamentally unconstitutional and causes irreparable harm to U.S. citizens with family members seeking entry into the United States. Furthermore, those individuals with constitutional rights, such as Lawful Permanent Residents ("green card holders") have suffered harm and will continue to suffer if Congressional action is not taken.

America is founded on the beliefs of equality, tolerance, and refuge. When we turned our backs on refugees, in 1939, it was effectively a death sentence for them, and they joined the millions of Jewish people who lost their lives in the Holocaust. As one of the most powerful nations in the world, we have a duty to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. It is morally unjust and unconstitutional for the country to carry out an anti-Muslim policy. The First Amendment of the Constitution clearly states that the government "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." This pertains to all religions, including Islam. By signing this petition, we take part in an act of moral resistance. Stand against Donald Trump's offensive attack on Muslims and embrace and defend Middle Eastern and African immigrants and refugees.

Executive actions by President Trump's administration has threatened the residency of undocumented residents living and fruitfully residing and working in Dubuque, IA. We respectfully request that the City Council of the City of Dubuque, IA, resist any efforts by federal law enforcement agencies to arrest, detain, or deport any people living within Dubuque, IA peacefully. People living in Dubuque, IA, in a peaceful, law-abiding manner, should not be taken from their homes because of shortcomings in the federal immigration system.

Shame and outrage at the banning of refugees.

Senator Alexander's website , Twitter feed, Facebook page, etc. is focused almost exclusively on his support for the nominee for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos. Meanwhile, Trump's executive action banning entry of refugees immediately threatens the welfare of innocent lives, many of whom have assisted our government overseas. Condemning and stopping human rights violations like this should be a top priority for our Senator.

My hometown mayor in Miami, Carlos Gimenez, just announced on Thursday, January 26 that he plans to revoke Miami's status as a sanctuary city in the shadow of Trump's threats. This is gut-wrenching news for undocumented families living here. It's not too late for Mayor Carlos to stand up to Trump and do what's right. Trump and his administration are testing us. They want to see if we’ll give up our fight. We can't choose to simply bend to his threats; we must resist. Miami is an important fight for us to win and establish that immigrant families deserve dignity and respect. If enough of us sign this petition, Mayor Carlos will be empowered to resist Trump's demands.

I don't believe a teacher should be asked to help enforce immigration laws. I have found, through experience, that students learn best when they trust and respect their teacher. That relationship will be damaged if students are fearful that a teacher must "report" possible immigration irregularities. If we allow this bill to pass, what other police functions may the state or federal government require of a teacher? Will primary through high school educators be impacted next? I have spoken with several dedicated teachers who, in good conscience, could not "cooperate" and would need to retire early or find another profession, which will be a devastating loss to the community.
