RI House Finance Committee: Pass H7374 and codify tuition equity for undocumented students in Rho...For all of us, tuition rates have been astronomically increasing. Working families are struggling to send their children to college as they work longer hours while their wages stay the same. I am in one of those working families. My dad is an immigrant, a small business owner who provides jobs to our community. I have worked at the Portuguese consulate, I have worked in political campaigns, and throughout my career I have worked legally, and havecontributed my fair share of taxes. And yet, there are some who wish to deny my family the opportunity to send their child to college. At the University of Rhode Island, out-of-state tuition would mean an additional cost of over $16,000 per year. An unfair and unjust burden. We are Rhode Islanders and Americans as much as you and your families are. We are all trying to make a better life, which are contributing economically, to this great state of ours. With the passage of H7374, myself along with hundreds of others will not have to worry about a future administration rescinding tuition equity in Rhode Island, as it would then be codified in law. Help Susana & Sayra Stay in Our Community!Susana and her daughters are at increased risk for violence if they were to be deported their hometown, where the drug trafficking has gained a stronghold in recent years. Susana and her daughter survived a mass shooting in Mexico as part of a growing network of organized crime and her family has experienced extortion in which they had to pay more than 75% of their earnings to a local drug cartel at the threat of violence. Additionally, the medical consequences of Susana’s and Sayra’s deportation are very serious for all, especially for Isabela. Isabela needs to continue her medical care and will be the only member of the immediate family left here if Susana and Sayra are deported. Susana and Sayra must leave the United States at the end of this month. Tickets are dated for April 29th, 2016. PLEASE ACT NOW TO PREVENT SUSANA AND SAYRA FROM RETURNING TO MEXICO ON APRIL 29th.1,792 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Alana LeBron

Free Yefri Sorto and Pedro SalmeronYefri Sorto-Hernandez and Pedro Salmeron were minors when in 2014 they braved the perilous journey to the United States, fleeing gang violence in El Salvador. Several days before coming here, Pedro’s cousin was brutally executed by gang members, because he would not join. In order to escape this fate, Pedro fled to the United States to be with his family. Scared that their son may face this same reality, Yefri’s parents brought him to the United States. On January 26th, on his way to work, Pedro was dragged out of his father’s truck and detained by immigration officials. Pedro is a good person with no criminal record. According to his family, he is a computer genius who dreams of one day being an engineer. On January 27th, Yefri was apprehended by immigration officials at the bus stop on the way to school. It was seven hours later that his parents got a call from a federal agent saying their son had been arrested and was being held for deportation. Yefri is a very studious young man with high marks in school. According to his mother, he is quiet, humble, and loved by many at his school. Both boys should be bestowed refugee status and allowed to stay with their families in the United States. The two teens are awaiting their fate in the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA, a place that is harsh. According to Pedro, the guards have threatened to attack him several times. On several occasions, immigration officials have attempted to covertly expedite their deportations. Like many of the over 100,000 families that arrived here in 2014, these young men did not have adequate legal representation when they applied for refugee status. Now they are facing deportation. If sent back to El Salvador, both teens face the very real possibility of death at the hands of gangs.336 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Kevin J. Rogers, Action NC

North Carolina Students Face DeportationOn January 1, 2015, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would begin apprehending individuals who had deportation orders. They were looking for individuals who had orders of deportation since the summer of 2014 when there were vast amounts of unaccompanied minors who were fleeing Central America. The people that ICE is looking for are specific to a geographic location. They are from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras and are individuals who came to the US seeking refuge and protection.114 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Stefania Arteaga

Driver's Licenses Regardless of Immigration Status: Pass Bill H7610HB7610 would allow undocumented immigrants in Rhode Island to apply for driver's licenses. On Tuesday March 15th, more than one hundred Rhode Islanders rallied at the state house in support of House Bill 7610 during its hearing in the Judiciary Committee. Despite overwhelming community support, legislators chose not to make a recommendation of passage, recommending instead that the bill be held for further study. We demand that the members and chair of the Judiciary Committee recommend HB7610 for passage immediately. Not only would the bill benefit undocumented and mixed-status families, but it would create safer roads for all residents of RI. Over 10 other states (including Vermont and Connecticut) have already passed similar legislation. Undocumented immigrants contribute millions in taxes to the state of Rhode Island every year and deserve the right to safe mobility. See the bill here: http://webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/BillText/BillText16/HouseText16/H7610.pdf For more information: https://www.facebook.com/efa.comiteenaccion/ La propuesta de ley HB7610 otorgaría licencias de conducir a personas indocumentadas en Rhode Island. Governor Ducey: Say No to Trump, No New SB1070's in ArizonaEncouraged by Donald Trump's fearmongering on the campaign trail, Arizona legislators are trying to pass the harshest wave of anti-immigrant bills we have seen in five years. The state should have learned its lesson in the terrible aftermath of SB1070, but immigrant communities are again under attack from the right wing. In SB1377 and HB2451, Senator Smith and Rep. Darin Mitchell, are following in recalled Senator Russel Pearce’s footsteps, by going against the movement to reduce incarceration by aiming to fill up Arizona’s jails with immigrants. Senator Kavanagh, among others, have introduced bills to stop the forward-looking solutions of cities like Phoenix to offer municipal ID's to all its residents. If made into law, they'll be disastrous for Arizona. Tell Governor Ducey to reject the Trump effect in our state. Veto the new SB1070's coming out of the statehouse. #UnitedAgainstHate!3,758 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Carlos Garcia, Puente Arizona
