Civil rights activist and Native American Leonard Peltier has been imprisoned for 37 years and is in poor health. Many believe that Peltier’s trial was politically motivated, tainted by prosecutorial and judicial misconduct, and that he is a political prisoner, innocent of the charges of which he was convicted. Advocates for Peltier’s release include Amnesty International, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the National Congress of American Indians, Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Center for Human Rights, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Dalai Lama, Jesse Jackson, Harry Belafonte, Michael Moore, etc.

It's important to balance gun rights with responsibilities.

I am a mother of two young boys and here is my thought, after having given this a great deal of thought, IT IS UP TO US TO DO SOMETHING NOW. This country has changed, there was a time when the common good of our people was put first, when careful thought was given to what a child or teen was viewing or holding in their sweet, innocent hands. Now, the good of profit and greed are our guiding principles and have been for a long time- that's what has changed. No longer do people care about what a child might be playing with or seeing on television, much less that interviewing children who just went through the most horrific experience of their lives was going through- but hey, they needed their ratings, right? I grew up watching The Brady Bunch, Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons and Walter Cronkite. The news was informative and always had a good story to lift your heart. So, here are my promises and my pleas: The games, which we have almost none of anyway, they are gone and never to return. I will not spend one penny on violence! Video and game companies- FIX THIS! The news, if you continue to sensationalize violence....I'm done watching, not that I watch much as you lost me a long time ago! CNN, NBC,CBS, FOX, ABC - STOP THIS, NOW! Corporate America- CARE! Gun owners - consider turning them in or simply locking them away until your life is in danger - why else would use them? NRA, gun control wary folks- WAKE UP and DO SOMETHING. Congress - GET A BACKBONE, CHANGE THIS - PLEASE. President Obama - WE NEED YOU TO LEAD THE WAY, PLEASE! IT IS UP TO US TO DO SOMETHING NOW!

The right to bear arms has become UNBEARABLE PAIN!!! There is no reason for citizens to possess automatic weapons. They need to be restricted and we need to stand up loud and clear. This should be timed for the day before or after Inauguration, when Washington is full of visitors and the President gets a clear message from the people that we are DONE!

Stricter Gun Laws

Live close to newtown and don't understand need for guns in households

Making the case that Military, and Civilian weapons need to be clear to the the public. That Weapons need locks pre-installed. That everyone who buys must be logged in a database. Put an end to Gun Shows unless Gun Shows sell "only" guns, and not AK-47 or M-16 type weapons. Must have I.D. and Background Check to get any weapon.

Guns should be tracked better. Every gun should be turned in, and registered. Every gun should have a trigger that can only be turned on when it sends wireless beacons signaling its location. Any gun that comes close to gun free zone should raise an alarm so people can hide and armed police can be ready to apprehend the bad guy. No gun should be firable without its location identified.

I am a mother of two. I drop my son off at school in the morning and I want to feel safe. Let us start a discussion on Gun Control in America. We can no longer sit back and pretend like this is not an issue in America.

My son has had 3 trials for a rape he did not commit. He has spent 11 years in prison and not had a fair trial yet.

On December 14, 2012, a gunman entered the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut and opened fire, killing what is currently being reported as a minimum of 27 people, 20 of whom were children. Completely innocent UNARMED victims. Columbine. Red Lake, Minnesota. Essex, Vermont. Lancaster, Ohio. Virginia Tech. To name a few. How many more innocents must die at the hands of murderers when our Second Amendment gives us the right to defend ourselves against such evil? Enough. It's time to stop the violence and allow teachers to arm themselves against such violence. This is the only proven, reliable way to ensure these senseless crimes no longer happen: DETER THEM, and if deterrence doesn't work - arming our educators gives them the chance to defend themselves.

On Friday, December 14, 2012 a horrendous crime was committed once again by a misguided human being. And, once again, the GUN has been blamed for the crime. If some trained person within the school was armed, perhaps this could have ended before so many deaths. The time has come to place the blame on the individual or individuals for their deed and it is time to remove the evil act(s) committed from our history. Most time these acts are committed by people who see no future for themselves and choose the “easy way” to get their name(s) into our history books. It has become a competition to commit the most horrific crime and their name will go down in history forever immortalized for the dastardly deed. Instead, I believe we should strike the name(s) of individuals who commit these crimes from every record indicating their existence and never again speak their name(s). I speak of the cowardly act committed on April 19, 1995 but, when I do, I never speak the name of the evil person who committed it. STOP making them parts of our history and show them for what they are, evil cowards. Banish their lives and memories for all time and STOP blaming the instrument used in the crime.
