I am deeply embarrassed and extremely worried for the future of the United States of America and its Constitution. We have enough enemies in the world and the best way to show we are not all xenophobes is to throw Trump and his likes out of the USA! Join the struggle!

Are children are being trafficked around for fraudulent funds

This should properly be happening at a Federal level, but for now the impetus seems to be coming from cities. Seattle, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and others have declared Indigenous Peoples Day on the 2nd Monday of October. We believe that Taos should join them in doing so, at the Town and County levels, and continue advocating for this to happen on the State and National levels.

Stop the ban of blowers. Their is a small group trying to ban the use of blowers in Newton. This ban could potentially put several small businesses out of business, not to mention the right of homeowners to use them for their personal use. PLEASE take a minute to show your support in stopping this group that wants to dictate what everyone in OUR city can and can't use to do their job. The Board of Aldermen’s proposal is for either a total ban of leaf blowers or a partial ban of the use of leaf blowers. Limiting the use of the proper tools to do your landscaping efficiently and quickly will impact your landscaper’s ability to service your property. This proposal, if passed will force the landscapers to increase the cost of services by a minimum of three times what you are currently paying if we have to revert to using a rake and broom instead of the leaf blower. The Leaf Blower Ban proposal goes beyond just the issue of banning leaf blowers, it infringes on your rights as a property owner in Newton.

Currently the shows on BET are either boring or just not interesting. BET used to have plenty of programs that were entertaining, enjoyable to watch , and had a huge fan base. Then all of a sudden BET took them off of the air!?!? Shows like Baldwin Hills, College Hill, Spring Bling, Rip The Runway, Hell Date, The Basement, and countless others. I and hundreds of others would agree that BET needs to bring them back !

Texas A&M is changing, and sometimes those changes happen too quickly. Such is the case with Cain Hall. Moving student services to West Campus creates considerable distance between students and the help many of them need to successfully matriculate through A&M. Students in crisis can't get a counselor without travel; physically disabled students must travel on buses to reach accommodations. This means that our more vulnerable populations are at risk. And we ask President Young to refrain from moving these offices until new on-campus accommodations are built or found.

Saturday Night Live recently announced that Donald Trump would serve as host of the program on November 7, 2015, one year from the 2016 general election. The popular comedy show, which has been criticized for not adequately representing Latinos, is broadcasted by NBC - the same network that terminated its relationship with Donald Trump over his derogatory comments about Mexican immigrants. Now, just three months after cutting ties with Donald Trump, NBC is seeking to boost its ratings at the expense of Latinos and immigrants by allowing Trump to host one of its most popular shows. By inviting Donald Trump to host Saturday Night Live, NBC is demonstrating that it doesn’t care about its Latino and pro-immigrant viewers. It is providing a platform for Trump’s insulting attacks on immigrants and calling it entertainment -- something we do not find funny. It is shameful for NBC to allow Donald Trump to host Saturday Night Live, a comedy show when one of the main policies he has promised would rip apart millions of immigrant and Latino families. NBC cannot bill hateful rhetoric as comedy, much less entertainment. Tell NBC to drop Donald Trump as host of Saturday Night Live!

I join Equality Virginia and other fair-minded Americans in writing you in regards to your treatment of John Murphy. This country has a long and important history of upholding religious freedom. That right, which has preserved everyone’s ability to worship and believe as they choose, should not be repurposed to allow individuals or institutions to impose harm on others. A life-long Catholic, Mr. Murphy was hired by a lay governing board as the Executive Director of the St. Francis Home. The Home is run by lay employees and admission is open to all qualifying people over 50 without preference or discrimination based on race, creed, religion, gender, or country of origin. Upon receiving his employee benefits paperwork, you ordered his dismissal because he has a same-sex spouse. Religious organizations have a protected right to make decisions about hiring and firing people who are ministers, and can teach or spread faith free from government interference. But for positions that do not involve ministerial duties, such as leading the St. Francis Home, our longstanding laws against discrimination apply to both religious and secular organizations. Most Americans, including a majority of Catholics, are shocked that you would fire Mr. Murphy solely because of who he loves. Employees should be judged on their qualifications, experience and the job they do – nothing more, and nothing less.
