• Make Hillary Clinton Reveal Her Plan For Reparations
This petition is asking Hillary Clinton to make clear her stance on reparations for the descendants of slaves, and explain how her position on reparations compliments, or runs contrary to her receiving PAC money from the private prison-for-profit industry lobby.

  • Get the sidewalks cleared! No tickets for walking in the street!
Before a single snow flake fell, D.C. officials announced that they wouldn't enforce the law requiring property owners to shovel sidewalks and keep them free of snow. But now that sidewalks have become dangerous and impassable, the police are threatening to ticket anyone who walks in the streets. Councilmember Jack Evans even wrote that "if you can't travel on sidewalks, then stay inside." It's absurd to force carless D.C. residents to choose between staying inside for weeks and risking their lives on icy sidewalks.

  • Hillary Clinton Release the Transcripts of Her Wall Street Speeches
Hillary claims that she will reform Wall Street if she wins but does not say what she told them in their speeches. To fight corruption and the taking over of our government by monied interests, we need transparency when possible as to what is promised to them by politicians behind closed doors.

  • Tell the Presidential Candidates to Release their Tax Returns
We don't find ourselves in agreement with Mitt Romney very often, but we agree with Romney's call for all of the presidential candidates to release their tax returns. In a year when the leading GOP candidate is a billionaire, and other candidates have shady finances, it is important to know this information before the first votes are cast. [The following is from the Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mitt-romney-tax-returns_us_56a4e0bbe4b0404eb8f1ea95] Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Sunday called on 2016 presidential candidates to release their tax returns ahead of the first nominating contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. In a Tweet, he said "4 years ago today, I released my taxes; became issue. 2016 candidates should release taxes before first contests." Romney released his 2010 tax returns and 2011 estimates four years ago, following the lead of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, then his main GOP rival in the 2012 presidential race. The issue dogged his campaign throughout the primary and into the general election, as Democrats insisted Romney, one of the wealthiest candidates ever to seek the presidency, release more than two years' worth of returns. Then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) later infamously claimed that Romney "didn't pay any taxes for 10 years." Although he has ruled out another run for the White House, Romney has remained active in the 2016 race. He recently affirmed his belief that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is a natural-born citizen, contrary to Republican front-runner Donald Trump's claims otherwise. Trump, who continues to lead in New Hampshire, and appears to have some momentum in Iowa, has not yet released his tax returns. The businessman in October said he would release his tax returns when “we find out the true story on Hillary [Clinton's] emails." At a rally over the weekend, Trump bragged that he paid "as little as possible" in taxes, because that's the "American way" and he's not an idiot"

  • Declare CNN "Town hall" on January 25 a real "Debate"
In the 2008 presidential primary, 18 debates were held before the Iowa caucus, the 2016 primary season only allows for 4 debates. Debating is a critical aspect of the democratic processes. Sanders, Clinton, and O’Malley have all called for more debates. The petition by Robert Reich calls for more debates and has nearly 120,000 signatures: http://act.democracyforamerica.com/sign/DNCdebates Debbie Wasserman Schultz has claimed that the reason more debates cannot be held is because the three candidates Sanders, Clinton, and O’Malley have very busy schedules. Despite their busy schedules, they have agreed to a Town Hall on January 25. http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/20/politics/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-martin-omalley-town-hall/ However, Town Halls have much lower viewership and contrived structures difficult for viewers to appreciate. In Town Hall settings, candidates are not allowed to respond to the accusations of their opponents. However, a debate allows for such lies to be called out for what they are. As a debate is no more demanding on candidate schedules than that of a town hall, we urge the DNC to declare January 25th a debate!

  • Bernie, Please Challenge Hillary to Debate Before Iowa!
The Democratic Party is perpetrating a great injustice on the American people — That by limiting the debates as they have, the electorate has been deprived of ample opportunity to evaluate the candidates.

  • .@PolitiFact: Correct the Record on Sanders & Pentagon Spending
In the fourth Democratic presidential debate, Bernie Sanders said that "less than 10 percent" of the Pentagon budget "actually goes into fighting ISIS and international terrorism." [1] The purported fact-checking site PolitiFact rated Sanders' statement as "mostly false," [2] based on the claim that the share of Pentagon spending devoted to fighting international terrorism is a fundamentally unknowable fact. [3] But PolitiFact could have talked to experts on Pentagon spending who say Sanders' statement was "mostly true." Carl Conetta, director of the Project on Defense Alternatives [4], wrote: "MOSTLY TRUE. Website PolitiFact says 'mostly false,' but they're wrong. Got buffaloed by Pentagon flaks. I say 'mostly true' because less than 15% would be 'certainly true'... which is to say a nation with a $90 billion defense budget devoted entirely to counter-terrorism operations could surely accomplish what we have - although they'd do it differently. Another way to look at this would be to ask, How much could we cut the budget if our terrorism concerns receded to the level of 1990? DoD would almost surely say, 'less than 10 percent.'" [5] Urge PolitiFact to correct the record by signing our petition.
