  • "debilitating conditions" as listed under NRS chapter 453A.050
Mental illness isn't a focus of medical marijuana as of yet. The pharmaceutical industry markets a wide variety of medications with severe side effects and risks of dependency, for these illnesses, that have just as many health risks physically, as they claim to fix mentally. Marijuana can be a safer, cheaper, natural, more stable alternative; and the horticultural aspects of cultivation could instill a sense of accomplishment, ingenuity, and self worth in people who otherwise would be forced to take medication they don't fully understand.

  • Council member Tolbert: Control oversize home construction in Mac Groveland and Highland Park
We have watched as an alarming number of homes in St. Paul neighborhoods have been torn-down/remodeled and rebuilt into manufactured spec homes that are truly out of place.   The selling prices on these homes, frequently exceeding $500K, are guaranteed to result in property tax increases for all of us. With higher taxes, we have lost views and sunlight, lots of old St. Paul charm, and our quality of life.

  • Remove NO PARKING red lines from Villages of Fairview
The city painting unnecessary no parking red lines impacts the value of all homes in the villages of Fairview. No parking signs and extra patrols should have been sufficient without feeling the need to de-value our homes and our neighborhoods.

  • Tell Florida to override judges who removed kids from fit mother
My Gainesville-raised children were removed from me - deemed fit by the judge and placed with their father, who was ordered in the past to take anger management classes. The children, ages 8 and 11 have both said they wish to stay with their mother, but were not given the opportunity to testify. The case is yet another example of the courts taking sides over alleged - but unproven - accusations of parental alienation. Tell the state's family courts why custody decisions should be made in the best interest of our children.

  • Say NO to East Greenbush Casino!!!
It is not too late! The town council in a 5 to 0 vote on June 12th approved the East Greenbush site for a casino, despite a large majority of the community loudly voicing opposition .The fix is in, but we can still do something. A casino will be a disaster for our community . We need to let our voices be heard before it is too late!!!

  • Save the lakes of Meeker County, MN.
I've seen the devastating effects these birds have on our local lakes. During this time the DNR has stood by while local people have asked for their help before the lakes are severely hurt. The DNR has stated that these birds have yet to have an ill effect on our area, but those of us who fish and live in this area are seeing things differently. Our little lakes are being burdened at a rate that's 27 times higher than sustainable levels set by the U.S Fish and Wildlife Services for other lakes in Minnesota. The cormorant and pelican population are responsible for consuming 1.9 million pounds of fish from Meeker County lakes yearly. In 2005 the DNR stepped in on Leech Lake; the program has had great success. Leech Lake wasn't nearly as over populated as our area. I believe our area lakes are just as important as any other. It's time for the DNR to be proactive. Why do we have to let our lakes be seriously hurt before they act? Is it really necessary to allow game fish levels to drop to a point that's costly and takes years to fix before the DNR takes action?

  • Save the Rappahannock Coffee Shop
Also consider calling the Arlington County Board: 703 - 228 - 3130 -------- B.M. Smith and Associates have submitted plans to Arlington County to build a new six-story luxury apartment building. This new building would demolish a strip of retail establishments, with the Rappahanock Coffee shop being included. In recent years the Penrose community of Arlington, Virginia has seen a number of luxury apartments built and none of them are even near capacity. Meanwhile, the need for affordable housing has been ignored thus forcing people out of the area and possibly the county itself. Rappahanock Coffee is one of the few remaining communal spaces in the area. Furthermore, it exists as an independent coffee shop at a time when chains like Starbucks overrun communities. For the people who come here, the Rappahanock Coffee shop provides more than just a cup of coffee. As an article in the Columbus Underground mentions: “Independent coffee shops take on the character of their communities and cater to the needs of community members,” says Greg Ubert, President of Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea. “A great coffee shop becomes a hub for social interaction, and all kinds of great things can happen as a result of these interactions. People feel more connected and less stressed, friendships are formed and strengthened, community problems are solved, and business deals are struck.”1 If you believe that a community as a whole, and not just business interests should have a say in how development is handled, then I urge you to sign. --- 1: Evans, Walker.
