  • Request for a Flood Prevention Forum for the Northwest Side
We are starting this petition, because our plea for effective and broad preventive flood measures needs to be taken seriously and requires immediate response. Our community has gone through multiple floods, which are becoming more frequent, requiring us to repeatedly spend thousands of dollars on undoing the flood damage. We cannot sustain such reactive actions, all while we are simultaneously dealing with ever increasing taxes and decreasing incomes.

  • Fireworks, short term celebration, long term public nuisance
The time of year that I and many, many others might enjoy the most has now become an any night, any time, selfish invasion of explosions and pyrotechnics. People with rudely awakened and scared kids, terrified and trembling pets in need of medication, elderly and/or people battling illnesses who need their rest, veterans with PTSD, and fire dangers all deserve better consideration. A common sense solution for a lack-of-common-courtesy problem.

  • Please don't gut Maui's workforce housing ordinance! We need it!
I am a hard-working grandmother. I have a good job, I work hard, I raised children and grandchildren here on Maui, I try hard to save, I pray and I play by the rules. But for me and almost every family I know we cannot afford a house or a condo. We are all being priced out of our island, and in another generation many of our local families will be gone. Protecting our workforce housing ordinance is the least we can do to try and keep Maui, Maui.

  • Petition to Stop the Sale of the Facilities Services Greenhouse
Due to budget cuts and a deficit estimated at 12-14 Million USD, UAF has decided to discontinue its use of the Facilities Services Greenhouse in favor of selling it at auction and using its former footprint as a staging area for the upcoming powerplant renovation. Instead, due to its considerably greater value outside of the standard economic model, we propose to relocate it within the campus to increase student access to locally-grown produce and educational opportunities.

Animals are living, breathing things that people consider their family, and I think a lot of people would agree with me on this.

  • Boehner: Do not Use my tax dollars to sue the president.
As a tax paying citizen, I object to you using my tax dollars to fund your lawsuit against President Obama. I disagree with the lawsuit as it does not appear to have a sound basis. As an American, natural-born citizen, I do not want my money used to fund it.

  • Mayor Fraim/Council: NO MORE TIME FOR BIG RIGS ON HAMPTON BLVD.
In the first place, huge 18-wheelers hauling containers to the port terminals do not belong on a street that bisects residential neighborhoods, including my own, the ODU campus and two school zones, as the public made clear when this issue last surfaced in 2007. Furthermore, those trucks expose residents and homeowners to disturbing noise, vibration that undermines the foundations of homes and businesses, raise public safety issues, especially for students at Larchmont Elementary, ODU and Taylor Elementary and expose people to toxic diesel soot that can penetrate deep into the lungs, which has been linked to severe respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses, chronic bronchitis, cancer, and premature death. Mayor Fraim and the Council have a primary duty to protect people’s right to the quiet, peaceful enjoyment of their homes and neighborhoods, while not being poisoned by noxious fumes and suffering life threatening gridlock. The needs of the neighborhoods and the community come before corporate profits and the convenience of the Port Authority.

  • Gov. Cuomo: Convene special session to enact legislation that has been bottled up by Republican c...
Primary challenges to some of the IDC senators and a threat by the Working Families Party to endorse another candidate for governor have resulted in Gov. Cuomo being more vocal in his opposition to a Republican-controlled State Senate. Since Jeff Klein, the IDC leader, has promised to rejoin the Democrats, Gov. Cuomo should take action now, rather than wait until the new session convenes in January, when the election is over and promises can easily be ignored.
