  • Boycott Ringling Brothers Circus until live animals no longer used
The process of obtaining and training wild animals to be circus performers is cruel and unnatural. Babies, especially elephants, are stolen from their mothers and made to perform tricks for "entertainment". Ringling Brothers has been cited and fined many times for abuse and even death of animals in their care.

  • Stop selling exotic birds at Petsmart, Petco and Pet Supplies "Plus"
I live with two rescue parrots who were either abandoned because the demands of their care were to great or given up because the bird outlived the owner. Parrots are not domestic, and demand a lot of attention and special care. My birds were lucky, but they could have ended up languishing for years, neglected in someone's back room. This is a serious issue, and pet stores need to stop adding to the problem

  • The Sexual Exploitation of Underage Girls Must be Stopped
I'm calling for an industry wide audit of all Oregon strip clubs pertaining to proof of legal age of their dancers, also I want to demand backround checks for managers and bouncers that are, in actuality, employed with the main purpose of that employment being to protect these girls during their shifts. Not only is it criminally unsafe to employ sex offenders in this particular industry, but highly illegal. Clubs should be practicing these precautions anyways. This petiton effects our entire community. We need to come together and protect our young women from sexual exploitation, as well as from the sexual predators looking exploite them. Recently, two 13 year old girls were found working at the Beaverton Starz Caberat strip club, they were being sexually abused, fed methanphetamines as well as being forced to prostitute themselves.Out of the two managers arrested for their involvement, one of them was in fact, a registered sex offender. The severity and perverse nature of this injustice calls for immediate action. As Americans, it is our sworn duty to look out for one another. We are an evolved, mature society capable of systematically and effectively extinguishing the evils threatening our world today. If we don't do something about it, these tragedies will continue to occur. We have to keep these monsters away from our little girls. The solution is simple and had Starz been conducting correct buisness practices in the first place, this horrific event essentially could have been avoided. I personally have a 13 year old niece that I love very much, making this whole situation that much more sinister and upsetting. Please do your part and sign this petition. Together we can help prevent any more young girls from experiencing this nightmare.

  • Keep gray wolf on the federal endangered species list!
The Obama administration’s proposal to remove the gray wolf from the federal endangered species list. Critics oppose federal delisting because that leaves it up to the states to decide how to manage wolves living within their boundaries. They say states have ramped up hunting quotas and fear that the gray wolf’s slow and fragile recovery could be overturned. This animal should be protected by the people

  • Yonkers Raceway: Taking advantage of disabled people
My husband is a person with a disability: an amputee.. We have a NYC DOT Handicap Tag, we went to Yonkers Raceway and parked in the handicap parking spot at the casino. When we returned to our vehicle we had a $230 dollar ticket issued because we parked in the handicap with a NYC HANDICAP TAG and were found guilty because we were not residents of Yonkers(Though it did not specify Handicap parking for Yonkers residents only). Persons with Disabilities should be able to Park on any NYS casino grounds even if they are not residents of that City.

  • Start Investing in Millennials for Public Office
If you want to invest in the future, you must invest in the future generation. 10,000 Millennials turn 21 every day, totaling 95 million of the U.S. population. By 2015 they will make up the majority of the American workforce. Millennials make up 30% of the LGBT population. Further, 39% are people of color, and over 75% are socially networked, and vast majorities support the Dream Act, marriage equality, fair labor standards, and access to education. These voices are diverse, abundant, and educated, but are not being represented in our politics. If you want to move the country forward, you must have progressive leadership. We know investing in young candidates works—over half of members of Congress were elected before the age of 35—but the median age of a Member of Congress has actually risen steadily since 1981 and our current Congress is one of the oldest in U.S. history. Our political infrastructure is risk averse, and it continues to reward politicians who maintain the status quo, rather than invest in a new generation of representatives who will be accountable to our nation's progressive values. We call upon our political establishment to champion young, progressive candidates who will become our nation's future public servants and political leaders. Regardless of party identification, progressive voices need to be empowered. A new progressive generation can lead the way. We ask the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee to adopt policies in their party platforms to recruit and support young, progressive candidates from top to down ballot races.

The actions of former Gallaudet University president I. King Jordan, during his tenure, have cast a pall over the entire Gallaudet Community when he maneuvered to promote his own handpicked choice for his successor. The board's plans to grant an honorary degree to Jordan during commencement next May are unfounded, disrespectful and detrimental to the vitality of its own stakeholders.

  • Avenal State Prison in California
Men in this prison are having to take showers in freezing water, the hot water is turned off! and there is no heat in their cells. And it's winter time. They are numb when they get out of the showers in Avenal State Prison. And there is no heat in their cells! They have no voice, so we must stand in the Gap for them. I am personally affected by this as well as hundreds of other families.
