• Macalester College: Stop punishing student activists and kick Wells Fargo off campus!
Last month, a group of student activists at Minnesota's Macalester College held a peaceful sit in to demand the school stop doing business with Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo is the bank responsible for the most foreclosures in Minnesota, and Macalester uses the bank for cards that employees use to buy services or supplies for the school. Now the administration is punishing the student activists who took part in the sit-in--saying they aren't allowed to study abroad or participate in student government, sports, or internships. This overly-harsh punishment is out of step with Macalester's long tradition of student activism and free speech on campus. Stand in solidarity with Macalester students and alums and sign this petition telling the administration to drop this punishment and kick Wells Fargo off campus! If you're a Macalester alumni, sign the alumni pledge here: http://usas.org/2013/05/29/macalester-alumni-pledge

  • Michigan: Pass ASL Interpreter Rules to Raise Standards
The Michigan legislature, in 2007, passed a new law raising the standards for ASL interpreters in Michigan. Now, the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) must review and approve the rules before the end of the legislative session, or the DODHH will have to start all over again to get standards raised in the state for Deaf citizens.

  • Protect our Pets
In recent years, there has been a lot of evidence found pointing to a strong link between animal cruelty and domestic violence. One study found that nearly 90% of families reporting domestic violence had cases of abused pets as well. We can help the affected animals in Pennsylvania by petitioning to include animals in the definition of "abuse," which would allow for pets to be included in domestic violence protection orders.

  • Petition for Pelagics
The Federal Government has banned recreational fisherman from bringing back filleted Pelagic fish (mahi-mahi, Wahoo, Tuna). The problem primarily impacts recreational fisherman on the Florida East Coast travelling to the Bahamas. Recreational boats are not equipped with coolers large enough to keep whole fish fresh for trips of a duration greater than 2 or 3 days and many of the islands do not have stable supplies of ice, causing these fish to rot and go to waste. Also recreational boats, unlike commercial fishing boats, lack the ability to freeze fish whole. We are proposing a recreational per person per day bag limit of fillets measured in pounds to be capped at a certain amount. This would allow recreational anglers to fillet fish, freeze them at the place they are staying and legally return with this fish to Florida.
