• Stop the Death of Children by Starvation NOW
A child dies every 5 seconds on planet earth from starvation. The world has the resources and logistical capability to stop this NOW. This is the most urgent ethical issue on planet earth. The private organizatons that have worked so hard - and often heroically - to prevent these deaths, simply do not have the resources and logistical capabilities to stop these deaths. Only the coordinated actions of the countries of the world can do that.

  • U.S. Senate: Pass The Television Consumer Freedom Act of 2013
The Television Consumer Freedom Act of 2013, introduced by Republican U.S. Senator John McCain on May 9, 2013, would allow Americans to buy cable & satellite channels separately, or “a la carte,” and give Americans more control over the content they receive and pay for. The bill would also require over-the-air broadcast companies (think major networks) to maintain the same programming over-the-air that they also provide to cable & satellite companies, and would eliminate blackouts of local major sports events if the venue or arena where the event occurs has received taxpayer funding.

  • Governor Dayton: We should have our own Minnesota State Bank
Our neighbor North Dakota has had its own state bank for over 100 years which has served the state well: has reduced cost of loans to businesses, supported community banks, returned profits to the state treasury and allowed the state to circumvent the problematic big banks of Wall Street. We should learn from their experience and adopt such a good idea.

  • Boycott Casperson's Upper Peninsula
State Senator Tom Casperson (R, 38th District) led the Republican effort in the Michigan legislature to initiate a wolf hunt in the state. His co-sponsored bills, SB 288 and 289, were passed in both houses with overwhelming Republican support, and were signed into law by Republican Governor Snyder on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. These new laws initiate a hunt that is unnecessary and unwarranted by science, permits steel trapping of wolves, and takes away the people's right to referendum on all future wildlife issues in Michigan.

  • Big Agra: Get the sugar out of my kidney beans ! ( as a start)
As a above-average label-reader I started noticing last winter that every can of kidney beans in our grocery stores has sugar added. I made chili and bean salads for many years and my mother did before me without sugar in the kidney beans ! With health authorities telling us we eat too much sugar, I want big agriculture/ processing companies to stop adding sugar to every product on the store shelves !!

  • President Obama: Stop Slaugthering America's Horses
Horses are raised in this country as companion animals not for food for foreign countries. They are a huge part of how this country was founded and need to be respected as such. Not to mention our horses are given many drugs that make them unsuitable for consumption. Do these people in other countries really want to eat tainted meat.

  • Mayor Bloomberg: Sign Paid Sick Days into Law
On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, the New York City Council voted 45 to 3 in favor of the NYC Earned Sick Time Act. This historic legislation allows workers to earn up to five Paid Sick Days per year to recover from an illness or to care for a sick child or family member. While we do have a supermajority of support, Mayor Bloomberg plans to veto this crucial bill. If the bill is signed, beginning on April 1, 2014, businesses with 20 or more employees will be required to offer five accrued Paid Sick Days per year. On October 1, 2015, the coverage will expand to include companies with 15 or more workers. An estimated one million workers will finally get paid sick days because of this law. It will also guarantee another 300,000 workers up to five unpaid, job-protected sick days (as of April 1, 2014). Mayor Bloomberg wrongly claims that this bill will "stifle job creation." This has not been the case in cities like San Francisco, which has had an even more expansive law since 2007. Paid sick leave prevents the spread of contagious illnesses, protects worker's economic security, and increases businesses' productivity. New York City has been fighting for Paid Sick Days for four years. Tell Mayor Bloomberg that we've waited long enough. Respect the wishes of New Yorkers, and sign this bill into law today.
