  • Mayor Bloomberg: Sign Paid Sick Days into Law
On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, the New York City Council voted 45 to 3 in favor of the NYC Earned Sick Time Act. This historic legislation allows workers to earn up to five Paid Sick Days per year to recover from an illness or to care for a sick child or family member. While we do have a supermajority of support, Mayor Bloomberg plans to veto this crucial bill. If the bill is signed, beginning on April 1, 2014, businesses with 20 or more employees will be required to offer five accrued Paid Sick Days per year. On October 1, 2015, the coverage will expand to include companies with 15 or more workers. An estimated one million workers will finally get paid sick days because of this law. It will also guarantee another 300,000 workers up to five unpaid, job-protected sick days (as of April 1, 2014). Mayor Bloomberg wrongly claims that this bill will "stifle job creation." This has not been the case in cities like San Francisco, which has had an even more expansive law since 2007. Paid sick leave prevents the spread of contagious illnesses, protects worker's economic security, and increases businesses' productivity. New York City has been fighting for Paid Sick Days for four years. Tell Mayor Bloomberg that we've waited long enough. Respect the wishes of New Yorkers, and sign this bill into law today.

  • Florida Panthers Organization;Cliff Viner, CEO;Michael Yormark, President: Please, Get Rid of the...
As a Florida Panthers and ice hockey fan, it sickens me that Panthers President Michael Yormark would consider the Redline Lady Panthers to be "entertainment". They are one of the many forms that females are sexually degraded by and for males to make money and are seen as the prime example of what females should really be like and the organization is trying to reinforce a correlation between males only watching sports and females only as objects. If they truly stand for the family friendly entertainment they stated, then they should present the team in that manner.

  • President Obama: RESTORE PARACHUTES TO KC 135 TANKERS!
My nephew and all other aviators connected with his mission fly KC 135 Tankers (Boeing 707) which, since 2008, do not include parachutes for the crew. Our aviators and our airmen are at risk of intentionally being sacrificed! How can this be?

  • Interior Department Should Proclaim Eminent Domain of Wounded Knee S.D.
James A. Czywczynski of Rapid City, South Dakota, purchased the 40 acres of Wounded Knee in 1968. The taxable value of the land is $6,600.00, however he is attempting to sell the land back to the Oglala Sioux for $3.9 million. He has given the tribe until June 1 to express interest in the land. Given the historic significance of the land, it is time for the United States Secretary of Interior, Sally Jewell, to declare "eminent domain" on all of Mr. Czywczynski's Wounded Knee property. Native Americans from across the country go to Wounded Knee to remember the wounds that have never healed there. Return this land to the Oglala Sioux tribe so the wounds can begin to heal.

  • Flush Rush!
This Petition is to convince Lew Dickey, head of Cumulus media, to dump Rush Limbaugh and any programming produced by Limbaugh's EIB network. Cumulus media's ad revenues have declined as a result of grassroots action against Limbaugh's advertisers. Conservatives should have right to hear their champions on the radio, but Limbaugh's incendiary rhetoric has led to unprecedented partisan divisiveness in this country.

  • A Complete Street for Foster Avenue
Foster Avenue is becoming a speedway to the expressways and enforcing the speed limits, stopping at red lights, and ticketing passing on the right isn't happening. Two lanes of traffic in each direction are not necessary. Traffic should be reduced to one lane in each direction, with a center divider for pedestrian crossing. A stop light should be added at Avers Avenue. Children are crossing Foster between and among Eugene Field Park and Gompers Park.

  • Latinos Demand that Christine La Coursiere Resign from the Board of Centro Cultural
Latinos demand that Christine La Coursiere resign as Chair of the board of Centro Cultural de Fargo-Moorhead. Up until a month ago, there were only two board members: Christine La Coursiere, chair; and Kandace Creel-Falcon, Vice-chair. When our protest of Centro Cultural leadership was announced, Creel-Falcon resigned. The remaining board chair’s lack of leadership and her lack of concern for Mexicans and Latinos have left Moorhead’s only Mexican cultural center in disrepair and without funding or programming for years; while intentionally eliminated programs and people trying to serve the Mexican and Latino community. We are demanding La Coursiere’s resignation and an investigation of Creel-Falcon and LaCoursiere’s handling of the organization’s funding by the Minnesota Attorney General. For Background on community issue, see mexi-can.org http://mexi-can.org/latinos-demand-that-christine-la-coursiere-resign-from-the-board-of-centro-cultural-de-fargo-moorhead/
