• District 225 - It's Time to Dissolve the Glenbrook Musical
Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South High Schools should have their own high school musical. By combining the student populations of these two large high schools, students are not given a fair opportunity to participate in a high school musical production during their years in high school. Would we combine the athletic teams of the two schools to produce one fantastic team? Of course not. Every surrounding school manages to produce their own musical, and are just as proud of their smaller scale production because it is their own students who are performing.

  • Earth Day weekend boycott of all gmo-based foods
Recently in California a proposition was narrowly defeated (via a $46 million dollar ad-blitz by the conglomerate "farmers") that would have required the labeling of all foods containing gmo (genetically modified organism). Many of us are concerned that these foods have been deemed "safe" by the FDA with little or no testing. Many more of us are tired of our concerns, as consumers, being ignored. We are tired of paying for these products in health detriments and inflated foods costs, to name only two. We are tired of being lied to. To demonstrate our seriousness and collective concern, we are boycotting all gmo-based products for the weekend of Earth Day, April 20-22. We ask that our local, state and national governing bodies support us in making proper labeling of foods containing GMOs mandatory.

  • Gun violence against women aided by the US Forest Service
I live in a forest inholding for my health and that of my daughter. The Forest Service plans to obtain a right of way over the private easement road to my home. The right of way will legally allow access to FS land which has been used by bear hunters to terrorize us, trespass on my property, and repeatedly kill our pet ducks, chickens, and geese, and seriously injure our horse. Help protect us from the violence and terrorism before we must give up our special needs home.

  • Health Care Reform for Animals!!
A life is a life and a gift, We need to reform the pre-exsisting condition for animals and if you rescue a animail you should get a break in animal insurance. It is time to lower the cost overall!! So many animals are being given up because of this...I feel we are being taken advantage of. Lower animal health care cost and millions would be saved. I think it is so sad and wrong to say we can't help you because of pe-exsisting condition for any life. Life is not a business, Its about living and humanatarian to care for it. Its overdue and with what is going on in this country with expected layoffs is time to do something. I hope you agree with me and we can make something happen.

  • Stop Unlabeled Aspartame in Milk!
The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation seeks to drop the FDA requirement to label milk and other dairy products as "artificially sweetened" when they contain sweeteners such as aspartame. Labeling must include all ingredients regardless of FDA safety approval. If approved these sweetners could then be added to any other food product and not be labeled.

  • Unpaid Utility Bill? You Could Lose Your Vehicle
Illinois State Senator Ira Silverstein is trying to pass a bill whereas if you have an unpaid utility bill in the City of Chicago, they can boot your car. If your car is booted you have 24 hours to pay the unpaid utility bill and boot fee otherwise your car will be towed and impounded. Once that happens you have 21 days to pay the entire utility bill, the boot fee, the tow fee and storage fee otherwise your car will be auctioned off. As you can imagine I am pretty livid about this. How dare a STATE senator introduce a bill that (right now) only affects the City of Chicago (MOST of his district is northern suburbs, Skokie, Wilmette, etc.) and targets the least of us, our seniors living off social security, those with low income, unemployed and underemployed?! No one purposely does not pay their utilities, that is the first thing people will pay when they have the money; no one wants to be in the dark, cold or without water. With this new increase in city water, this could affect more people that we realize. It doesn’t matter if you live in a house or an apartment, if you have a utility bill, you are affected. Again, this only affects the City of Chicago, but I’m certain this is just the testing ground, it can and if we allow, will expand statewide and possibly nationwide, so you don’t need to live in the city to fight against this bill. The bill was introduced January 10, 2013 and re-referred February 28, 2013 and the bill number is Illinois SB0036.

  • Tell New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez to support “Just One Day” on June 11, 2013 by urging all...
Over 300 cities (urban, suburban and rural, wealthy and poor) across America have now ended the needless killing of healthy and treatable companion animals. Ask the Governor and the State of New Mexico to support the animal life-saving event “Just One Day” by urging animal shelters across New Mexico to take a pledge not to kill any savable animals on June 11, 2013. Instead of clearing cages by euthanizing, animals will leave the shelters with their forever families. At the end of the day, the shelters will have many more empty cages than at the beginning of the day. Yet, no animals will have had to die in order to make that happen. More about Just One Day can be found at http://www.justoneday.ws
