• Federal Funding for Elementary School Tornado Shelters
On My 20, 2013 an EF-5 Tornado that was close to 1-1/2 mile wide and about 17 mile long, cut through the City of Moore and Southern Oklahoma City in OK. Two elementary schools were in the path and were flattened. Ten children (9 years and younger) were confirmed killed by collapsing walls in hallways. The federal government can take the lead in providing States with funding for underground shelters for such schools in the area known as 'Tornado Alley', frequented by tornadic activity (specifically 17 States identified as such).

  • Restore Library Hours in Sonoma County
Since the summer of 2011, hundreds of thousands of county residents have been deprived of the use of our local libraries on Mondays and evenings, due to an ill-advised 25% cutback in hours countywide. Libraries feel overcrowded during the reduced hours they are open. The number of children participating in library programs has fallen by more than 12,000 a year. Seniors, children, parents, and the needy are the hardest hit by this failure of government, for the first time in our local library system’s 109-year history, to adequately fund this vital public resource. Yet the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has refused to take responsibility for addressing this budgetary shortfall and has no plan to restore library hours for the coming fiscal year. The library system's $1.3 million shortfall represents just one-tenth of one percent of our county’s $1.3 billion budget. During this library funding "crisis" period, the Board of Supervisors has approved numerous expenditures that serve fewer citizens, are less popular, and less urgent. For example, during last June’s budget deliberations, our supervisors voted to add $8 million to the county's $80 million road maintenance budget. And since 2006, it has also added millions more per year to fund an unpopular 250% increase in county marijuana busts, prosecutions, and incarcerations. Sonoma County is relatively wealthy, and our government has sufficient taxpayer resources to fund the restoration of library hours for the coming year—provided that our Board of Supervisors responds to this urgent public need. This public awareness campaign and petition is a volunteer project of Sonoma County’s Progressive Source Communications. Please help us spread this petition. Without public awareness there can be no public pressure, and without public pressure, county supervisors will continue to ignore their responsibility to restore library hours. More information and contact information for the supervisors is available at RestoreLibraryHours.org.

  • Speed Control on Moose Hill Road
Many families with children and animals live on Moose Hill Road and have a difficult time when crossing the street or taking a walk. This is due to the dangerous speeds at which numerous drivers drive while on this road. This is unsafe, and measures need to be taken.

  • President Obama: Make it a Federal Law that Schools have Underground Shelters to Protect our Chi...
Please create a federal law to protect our children, give them a safe place in the school, underground so that when severe weather strikes, or if the school is somehow threatened by nature or other forces, that the children and their teachers have a chance to remain safe! Schools in Tornado Alley Must have safe places underground to protect the children, the teachers and the community around them. This must be a federal law and funds must be made available so that poorer communities have the same protection. Make this law now so that no more lives are lost.

  • Ulster County Executive: Save Our Railroad!
As can be seen by examples in Saratoga, Arkville, the Adirondacks, and many other areas of New York, a scenic railroad can be successful. We want the rail to be saved for a scenic railroad. The Catskill Mountain Railroad has the ability to maintain its own line and has NOT been a burden on the county or taxpayer. We believe that a fully developed scenic railroad will provide added variety to the area for tourism. It can provide additional unique entertainment and linkages to other merchants and recreation, boosting the local economy.

  • Juji's Sensory Friendly Films
I want to team up with CT’s movie theaters to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the “Ju-Ji’s Sensory Friendly Films” program. My son Julian “JuJi” has his difficult moments at times when my family takes him to the movie theaters because it is too loud and dark. I have to bring his headphones and at times take him out of the theater if it is overwhelming for him and therefore misses parts or most of the movie. In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing-in other words; the silence policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.

  • Block the New Britain to Hartford Busway!
The state of Connecticut is building a polluting, expensive and totally unnecessary busway, right on top of the rail line! Light rail or high speed electric rail are less polluting and faster, and in view of worsening global warming and climate change, this plan is wrong. It will cost our state nearly $2 billion to build both the busway and the re-built railway in the exact same corridor, and it is duplicative and wasteful.
