• Rep Meng, vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits
The safety net is crucial for the future of the american democracy. There cannot be a democracy where the poor the frail, the elderly are constantly at risk of losing everything to disease, old age, unemployment and lack of education, nor can there be freedom.

  • Rep. Courtney: Sign the Grayson-Takano Letter
Representatives Alan Grayson and Mark Takano released a letter to President Obama promising to "vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits." Within two days, the letter had more than a dozen co-signers, but to date, Rep. Joe Courtney has not signed on. We want to know definitively that Rep. Courtney will stand up against Republican efforts to cut the social safety net.

  • Progressive Lawmakers Warn Obama They Won’t Back Entitlement Cuts
In advance of any upcoming budget deal, progressive groups have begun pushing House Democrats to sign a letter to President Obama indicating that they will not back anything that cuts entitlement benefits. As of Wednesday, the letter, originally written by progressive Reps. Alan Grayson (D-FL) and Mark Takano (D-CA), had 10 additional signers. The coalition pushing the letter, including the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, MoveOn.org and Credo Action, announced it also added two unions, the National Nurses Union and the United Electrical, Radio, and Machine Workers of America, to the list. The groups said 110,000 supporters had also signed the letter within 24 hours of it being put online and supporters have placed more than 4,000 calls to members of Congress. The 10 additional House members who have signed the letter are Keith Ellison (D-MN), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Maxine Waters (D-CA), Rick Nolan (D-MN), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) Jim McGovern (D-MA) Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Jose Serrano (D-NY).

  • Congressman Steve Cohen: Stand Up Against Republican Efforts to Cut the Social Safety Net
My 28 year old son has been on disability for 10 years. He has a working wife and a six year old daughter. Without Social Security disability and Medicaid, he would have to live with his wife's family. I have been on disability since 2008. I am 62 years old. I too rely on disability plus Medicare. Cutting these essential programs will cause many people in our country to become homeless. Why did I work for 33 years only to have the promise of Social Security yanked away? Why did all of us believe in the system? These are essential social programs that should be strengthened, not reduced. Keep the social programs in place as they exist today at least and as promised.

  • Rep. Michaud: Sign the Grayson-Takano Letter
The Grayson-Takano letter asks Congressmen to pledge to vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits. Presidents and past Congresses have borrowed from the Social Security Fund with promises of returning the money to it. To date, instead of living up to their promises, they are now trying to cut benefits that seniors paid into with confidence. The pillaging of this fund is what has caused it to be running out of money, not increased costs and more seniors living longer. Now benefits are to be cut because the fund was misused to balance our country's budgets instead of its intended use.

  • Congressman Garamendi: Support Progressive Stand on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid
Over a dozen members of Congress just signed a letter to President Obama promising to "vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits." Workers pay for their Social Security and Medicare with deductions taken from their salaries. These are not "entitlements". As a nation, we can not afford to ignore those who need Medicaid. Please add your name to this letter.

  • Social Security and Medicare are off the table
Elections have consequences and one result of President Obama's decisive victory is the rejection by American voters of any move to penalize the Middle Class for mistakes by the 1% by offering up cuts to the social safety net - *our* return on *our* investment - to offset the problems caused by unneeded tax-cuts and unfunded wars. Social Security and Medicare are off the table.

  • Stand Against Cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security Benefits
Democrats have built the most popular government programs in American history – including Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security -- by working with Republicans whenever possible and by defeating Republican opposition whenever necessary. The torch has been passed to today’s elected officials, and we must carry it forward boldly. Voters across the political spectrum oppose cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security benefits, and we must do whatever it takes to protect these vital benefits from cuts.
